7:35 - the OP 8 Pro, it doesn't have nice tones in that picture, but it's bright enough to see what's on the right shelf. 7:39 - the Note 9, it has nicer tones but it's not a night mode picture, you can't see what's on your right self. Is it even in night mode? 7:42 - the iPhone 11 Pro, has the best tones, and your right shelf is completely visible but so is all that noise that makes the image look like you used a potato as a camera. Basically they all suck in their own way and the latter two pictures aren't really as great as you make them out to be.
iPhone for Video and ALMOSTTTTT stills as well. Good all around camera. BUTT the Pixel is still the best still camera. But sucks at everything else. Samsungs stills suck, there video sucks, and there shit android skin sucks. Only worth getting for the good hardware, which is now not even a reason cause of Oneplus.
@@TheReal_ist I think that samsungs one ui is actually very good. I had oneplus 3 and now I have s10+ and I found out that one ui has alot of usefull little tricks and features. Also it is pretty snappy but not quite oxygen os level. Both skins has their own advantages and in everyday usage I probably like one ui more.
7:35 I'm not entirely sure about the photos here, the OnePlus has a good looking night photo, the Note 9 has what appears to be better color accuracy, but it noticeably more noise, and lost detail on the dresser to the right. The iPhone is definitely a lot brighter, but I don't think it's conveying the actual colors and look of what "night" would be like, it seems too bright, though the colors are a LOT better, the noise, especially on the right seems much worse than the Note 9 had. Before being persecuted for being a fanboy - my daily driver is a iPhone 6s
@rcx M OP 8 Pro uses A MUCH bigger sensor than 7 Pro. If I recall correctly it is a 1/1.4" sensor , about 30% bigger. It's the new IMX689 by Sony. The Ultrawide sensor is the same as prev hen's main camera.

Of course he can't lift absolute numbers like a trained powerlifter, but relative to his weight, he can. Also getting real tired at the whole alpha/beta thing. Linus is as "alpha" as an IT nerd can get, meaning nerd in a positive sense. He has a lot of knowledge, his own company, successful youtube channel, financial stability and independence, does whatever the fuck he wants, has his own employees working for him, great humor - that's a lot of traditionally male attributes and values. (Also, there's a life beyond sports and women.)

I was having the camera discussion today on the Gcam port group. Sure, Gcam won't make it a Pixel, but it will definitely make it take better pictures. Night mode improvements are just massive, those who have tried it will agree on that. Also, Gcam devs have become increasingly better at porting, Urnyx05 and Arnova8G2 ports are very stable indeed. Try it out Linus, you'll be pleased ^^. Feel free to ask me anything, been helping devs and testing ports for a while now, currently helping with MJL Minilux port for the Oneplus 6/t.
Generally speaking, camera processing isn't OnePlus' main strength despite them being top tier on the rest of the Android experience (OxygenOS). A lot of OnePlus users will side load Google Camera (GCam) APKs modified for the OnePlus phones instead. Google Camera is the Pixel line's camera app and is considered the top tier of automated processing, so there's been a large effort to port it to other phones since Google themselves don't support it on anything other than the Pixel. That said, the stock camera app does have a pro mode for those of us a bit more photographically oriented and willing to do post processing with RAW sensor data, but the automatic processing has been a pain point for more "point and shoot" users. The hardware is fine, it's just that OnePlus' decisions/experience on stuff like color correction, white balance, exposure and other parameters on automatic modes is something they're not particularly adept at.
Imo the pictures showing nightmode between the 3 phones aren't very convincing, for me I think the nightmode one the OnePlus had the least amount of noise in the dark spot on the right, where the note 9 and iPhone had extremely obviously noise in the darker areas, but the color of the shot was depressingly inaccurate.
Nightmode: Maybe the iPhone makes a brighter picture, but it's definitely not less noisy! And the S9 is obviously noisier than the OP 8, I don't know why you think it "crushed" it. And brighter doesn't mean better if it's noisy af
I think u mean nightmode but yea I agree....The point of nightmode isn't just to make a dark picture brighter....its to make it look nice as well....the iPhone 11 camera makes a picture taken at night look like it was taken during the day....that's not what nightmode was meant to do and frankly...it looks pretty ugly to me
7:35 In my opinion the OnePlus 8 Pro maintains the overall highest image quality and Dynamic range between the Note 9 and iPhone. Sure the iPhone does make it look like it isn't dark at all but it sacrifices a lot of image quality and makes it hard to realize it's even dark in the room (not sure if that's what you are going for or not). The OnePlus successfully does what I said it does and still keeps the scene feeling dark, although I think OnePlus could do better at a $1000 price point. Yes OnePlus did amazing and somehow delivered even more to certain aspects of the phone but because of it I feel other aspects have either suffered from doing so or just were never solved. (IE holepunch camera, camera bump, price, night mode, headphone jack, IP certification on non pro) Although I think some of it can be forgiven for how well some features on the phone hit the mark.
Because that's the point of night mode. To make it brighter, not keep it as it is. The scene would look dark without night mode if you were going for that, so you'd have more options.
I love my OnePlus 8 5g. I came to this from a Lumia 950xl on WINDOWS and while I really miss the Lumia, I have to say the OnePlus is the nicest phone I've owned
Same here, I came to the 7 pro from a garbage budget phone, and this is all I will ever need, it is 90% of what a flagship offers, which is plenty for me. I also love the $480 that I paid for it, so I can't justify the diminishing returns of a phone over $500 when this gives me everything I need.

I switched from many years on Apple to my 7T Pro McLaren and haven't looked back at all. Greatest phone I've ever owned and am now a dedicated and loving One+ user. Can't wait to see the 8 McLaren!

Well they got stale when everyone added notches, then when the OP7 came out with no notch I was all over that shit. To be fair, Oppo have been doing notchless phones before OnePlus. I didn't wanna buy an Oppo because of other reasons though and OxygenOS was a selling point as well.

My Oneplus 8 pro failed water resistance (20 seconds half immersed in clean water to film a video).This was the first time device came in contact with water. This happened in the second month after buying the device. The authorised service centre denied warranty claim for water damage. Main board and other repairs cost Rs. 40,000($550). I can buy a new phone with that money, so I would rather discard my OnePlus 8pro. Disappointed and feeling cheated.

I've had 7 Pro for almost a year (bought in August) - I never felt so good about my phone before. It's so fast you forget there's some compute. Everything is instant. Wonderful experience, basically thought-fast. The pop-up camera is cool, but the 90Hz display... what a pleasure to watch. The only thing I didn't like were the round edges, as sometimes you will have some ghost touches but... it's amazingly fast.
Thx for continuing to mention the Headphonejack! And also really happy that this review dont makes me to want to upgrade vom the OP 7 pro. Was already way too expensive then.
I got the 8T on sale for an amazing £350 (down from 550) and using this over my old s7 is just... wow. Battery life is amazing, it's fast and smooth (oxygen OS is by far my favorite OS I've used) and the camera is more than good enough for me. Shame there's no Headphone jack tho

7:35 - the OP 8 Pro, it doesn't have nice tones in that picture, but it's bright enough to see what's on the right shelf.
7:39 - the Note 9, it has nicer tones but it's not a night mode picture, you can't see what's on your right self. Is it even in night mode?
7:42 - the iPhone 11 Pro, has the best tones, and your right shelf is completely visible but so is all that noise that makes the image look like you used a potato as a camera.
Basically they all suck in their own way and the latter two pictures aren't really as great as you make them out to be.
iPhone for Video and ALMOSTTTTT stills as well. Good all around camera.
BUTT the Pixel is still the best still camera. But sucks at everything else.
Samsungs stills suck, there video sucks, and there shit android skin sucks. Only worth getting for the good hardware, which is now not even a reason cause of Oneplus.
@@TheReal_ist I think that samsungs one ui is actually very good. I had oneplus 3 and now I have s10+ and I found out that one ui has alot of usefull little tricks and features. Also it is pretty snappy but not quite oxygen os level. Both skins has their own advantages and in everyday usage I probably like one ui more.

There's no way the note 9 shot was using night mode because of the abysmal low light performance and green tint
7:35 I'm not entirely sure about the photos here, the OnePlus has a good looking night photo, the Note 9 has what appears to be better color accuracy, but it noticeably more noise, and lost detail on the dresser to the right. The iPhone is definitely a lot brighter, but I don't think it's conveying the actual colors and look of what "night" would be like, it seems too bright, though the colors are a LOT better, the noise, especially on the right seems much worse than the Note 9 had.

@rcx M OP 8 Pro uses A MUCH bigger sensor than 7 Pro. If I recall correctly it is a 1/1.4" sensor , about 30% bigger. It's the new IMX689 by Sony.
The Ultrawide sensor is the same as prev hen's main camera.
I think the oneplus looks the best as well. The others look overprocessed. It looks real.

Of course he can't lift absolute numbers like a trained powerlifter, but relative to his weight, he can.
Also getting real tired at the whole alpha/beta thing. Linus is as "alpha" as an IT nerd can get, meaning nerd in a positive sense. He has a lot of knowledge, his own company, successful youtube channel, financial stability and independence, does whatever the fuck he wants, has his own employees working for him, great humor - that's a lot of traditionally male attributes and values. I was having the camera discussion today on the Gcam port group. Sure, Gcam won't make it a Pixel, but it will definitely make it take better pictures. Night mode improvements are just massive, those who have tried it will agree on that. Also, Gcam devs have become increasingly better at porting, Urnyx05 and Arnova8G2 ports are very stable indeed. Try it out Linus, you'll be pleased ^^. Feel free to ask me anything, been helping devs and testing ports for a while now, currently helping with MJL Minilux port for the Oneplus 6/t.

Generally speaking, camera processing isn't OnePlus' main strength despite them being top tier on the rest of the Android experience (OxygenOS). A lot of OnePlus users will side load Google Camera (GCam) APKs modified for the OnePlus phones instead. Google Camera is the Pixel line's camera app and is considered the top tier of automated processing, so there's been a large effort to port it to other phones since Google themselves don't support it on anything other than the Pixel.
That said, the stock camera app does have a pro mode for those of us a bit more photographically oriented and willing to do post processing with RAW sensor data, but the automatic processing has been a pain point for more "point and shoot" users. The hardware is fine, it's just that OnePlus' decisions/experience on stuff like color correction, white balance, exposure and other parameters on automatic modes is something they're not particularly adept at.
Imo the pictures showing nightmode between the 3 phones aren't very convincing, for me I think the nightmode one the OnePlus had the least amount of noise in the dark spot on the right, where the note 9 and iPhone had extremely obviously noise in the darker areas, but the color of the shot was depressingly inaccurate.
Nightmode:
Maybe the iPhone makes a brighter picture, but it's definitely not less noisy!
And the S9 is obviously noisier than the OP 8, I don't know why you think it "crushed" it.

I think u mean nightmode but yea I agree....The point of nightmode isn't just to make a dark picture brighter....its to make it look nice as well....the iPhone 11 camera makes a picture taken at night look like it was taken during the day....that's not what nightmode was meant to do and frankly...it looks pretty ugly to me

7:35 In my opinion the OnePlus 8 Pro maintains the overall highest image quality and Dynamic range between the Note 9 and iPhone. Sure the iPhone does make it look like it isn't dark at all but it sacrifices a lot of image quality and makes it hard to realize it's even dark in the room (not sure if that's what you are going for or not). The OnePlus successfully does what I said it does and still keeps the scene feeling dark, although I think OnePlus could do better at a $1000 price point. Yes OnePlus did amazing and somehow delivered even more to certain aspects of the phone but because of it I feel other aspects have either suffered from doing so or just were never solved. (IE holepunch camera, camera bump, price, night mode, headphone jack, IP certification on non pro)
Although I think some of it can be forgiven for how well some features on the phone hit the mark.
Because that's the point of night mode. To make it brighter, not keep it as it is. The scene would look dark without night mode if you were going for that, so you'd have more options.

Same here, I came to the 7 pro from a garbage budget phone, and this is all I will ever need, it is 90% of what a flagship offers, which is plenty for me. I also love the $480 that I paid for it, so I can't justify the diminishing returns of a phone over $500 when this gives me everything I need.
I have a OnePlus 6 and I'm not giving up the capacitive finger print sensor or the headphone jack so I guess we're stuck in 2018.

Well they got stale when everyone added notches, then when the OP7 came out with no notch I was all over that shit. To be fair, Oppo have been doing notchless phones before OnePlus. I didn't wanna buy an Oppo because of other reasons though and OxygenOS was a selling point as well.

My Oneplus 8 pro failed water resistance (20 seconds half immersed in clean water to film a video).This was the first time device came in contact with water. This happened in the second month after buying the device. The authorised service centre denied warranty claim for water damage. Main board and other repairs cost Rs. 40,000($550). I can buy a new phone with that money, so I would rather discard my OnePlus 8pro. Disappointed and feeling cheated.

I've had 7 Pro for almost a year (bought in August) - I never felt so good about my phone before. It's so fast you forget there's some compute. Everything is instant. Wonderful experience, basically thought-fast. The pop-up camera is cool, but the 90Hz display... what a pleasure to watch. The only thing I didn't like were the round edges, as sometimes you will have some ghost touches but... it's amazingly fast.

I got the 8T on sale for an amazing £350 (down from 550) and using this over my old s7 is just... wow. Battery life is amazing, it's fast and smooth (oxygen OS is by far my favorite OS I've used) and the camera is more than good enough for me. Shame there's no Headphone jack tho
