Does the Master the Boards book follow the MedQuest videos?

Someone posted on reddit and they said that they criticized MTB in a comment made right here and now the comment is deleted/hidden. They subsequently posted a link that redirects people here and so everyone coming here from reddit, I will address the issue in light of my experience, my real life, first hand experience. The reddit poster's criticism was that the book is useless and has mistakes and blah blah. I didn't read MTB before my USMLE CK exam based on "advice from peers" to "not waste time" and to only stick with UW. Spoiler alert: My CK score isn't great and I casually reviewed MTB 2 AFTER my CK, totally randomly, and guess what, I just wanted to kill myself at that point. Because I saw so many things in the book that WERE ACTUALLY ON MY EXAM AND NOT EVEN TOUCHED OR MENTIONED IN UW. One eg is the table at the end of the book that talks about alternative medicine/herbs/home remedies etc (like ginseng and gingko balboa and cranberry juice) and their efficacy/actual effectiveness. Stuff out of that table was on the first question of the first block of my CK. And there are many other examples. Also, I recently interviewed with Dr. Fischer for a residency spot and lets say it didn't go too well, which means I should have a grudge against him and trash talk the MTB series. But in all honesty, I HIGHLY recommend MTB 2 for CK. I will update this comment once i'm done step 3 (And yes I will use MTB 3). I will criticize him on one thing though and that is that he read the personal statement section of my residency application like a case instead of simply just a personal statement. So basically he took some of my childhood experiences (that I mentioned in my statement) and diagnosed me with a mental illness and then interviewed me with questions like "how do I know *assumed mental illness* won't effect your performance as a doctor" and they completely threw me off. On top of that he's so white in real life, he looks like Casper the friendly ghost upclose. I feel ghosted (pun intended).

Have you given a read to MTB for step 3? What do you recommend for step 2 CK? MTB CK or MTB 3? (As i heard both the books are similar and many people recommend to use MTB 3 for CK)
      Kindly respond. Thanks

@@rafiazubair7407 I wouldn't be able to tell you much about MTB 3, YET. Perhaps in a month or two I'll be in a better position to advise. However as for MTB 2 and it's usefulness on Step 2 CK, I can say from first hand experience that you MUST read MTB 2 if you're aiming for high scores. I was advised by "friends" to not use MTB 2 for CK and furthermore that Uworld alone would suffice. So I did that and I regret it big time. Mainly because after taking my CK, I randomly skimmed through MTB 2 (to cross check what I'd answered on my CK) and I saw so many exam questions covered/answered in MTB that had NO MENTION (even in passing) on UWorld. For eg there's a table towards the end that has a list of "alternative medicine" and herbs etc that are used OTC as common remedies. The table in MTB states their use, efficacy, side effects etc. Just out of that one table I LITERALLY had two questions, one of which was my very first question of my very first block. And neither of those were mentioned in UW at all!! By the way I did 4 passes of UW and my UW self assessments projected my scores in the 250 region. By the time I was doing my third pass of UW I'd often read two lines of a UW question and already know what the question, as well as answer were. Yet CK had me wondering if I'd done the wrong UW and MTB 2 had me wanting to kill myself (instead I only managed to face-palm me). I don't recall any of the questions that I was cross checking (after the exam), not being covered in MTB. Seriously I felt like crying( even though in the interest of their masculinity, men never feel like crying), now imagine if I was a woman!! I'd cry for days! So my advice is, if you can manage (one best knows their abilities and habits), add MTB 3 to your readings/preparation in addition to MTB 2 (which is a must have, must read for CK, beleive me!!). Uworld alone is not enough!! Dr. Fischer has been teaching for a lonnnnnnnnnggggg time (longer than we've been alive) and over the years he's seen it all and so when he authored that book, he knew what he was doing. I don't think any other board prep material or instructor has as much experience teaching doctors, or, expertise in authoring BOARD SPECIFIC HIGH YIELD preparation materials. It's great to listen to your friends or ask people for advice but in this case it's far far better to listen to Dr. Fischer, and, I learned that the hard way.
So in conclusion, be sure to use MTB 2 for CK!! If you can manage (time wise etc) add MTB 3 as well (but keep MTB 2 as your primary focus). Uworld is great and I love Uworld but what good is it if I couldn't score on my CK exam, despite "mastering" it prior to CK. I would've felt so much more comfortable on CK from the get go had I listened to Dr Fischer instead of my "friends" & their "advice". Sometimes friends can be stupid shits (im joking). You know people tend to not give away their best secrets to success because although everyone wants to see you successful, no one wants to see you being more successful than they are, so dont listen to anyone that advises you to overlook MTB 2 . Now as for MTB 3, I will be using MTB 3 for Step 3 and so I'll come back and update you in a couple of months (on it's usefulness for Step 3). As for your CK, I openly and publicly challenge you to come back and say I was wrong. On a lighter note, I don't know man, maybe Dr. Fischer secretly writes questions for the USMLE Step 2 CK, but to avoid giving it away and making it too easy, he only takes credit for writing the MTB series. We'll never know. Anyways, listen to me now and you'll thank me later, mark my words!! Mark them!!
