Westerners are the most brain-washed people in the world. People in the third-world countries and countries under dictatorships are aware of the propaganda they are subjected to. Westerners consume the propaganda without realizing they are doing that. That's what happens when you falsely believe you are living in a democracy.

@@Likeqiang20China development is to provide and improve better life for their own people. And China didn't invade other independent sovereign country. It's not an accident that China has not fought a major war in 40 years and has not fired a bullet across it's borders in 30 years. This lack of military reflects both a powerful civilzational impulse and a deeply pragmatic view of power. Having carefully refrained from using military options for over 4 decades, the Chinese are genuinely bewildered by the American portrait of China as an inherently aggressive, militaristic, and expansionist power.
Americans enjoy lecturing Chinese to be "more like us". Perhaps they should be more careful what they wish for. Historically how have emerging hegemons behaved? To be more specific, how did Washington act just over a century ago when Theodore Roosevelt led the US into what he was supremely confident would be an American century? In the decade that followed his arrival in Washington, the US declared war on Spain, expelling it from the Western Hemisphere and acquiring Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines; threaten Germany and Britain with war unless they agreed to settle the disputes on American terms: supported an insurrection in Colombia to create a new country, Panama, in order to build a canal; and declared itself the policeman of the Western Hemisphere, asserting the right to intervene whenever and wherever it judged necessary -- a right it exercised 9 times in the 7 years TR's presidency alone

The “debt-trap” theory is concocted by Brahma Chellaney, an Indian geopolitical strategist. The “debt-trap” theory is concocted by Indians, and popularized by Americans. They concoct this theory to demonize China, Chinese and BRI projects/loans. India, US, along with EU, fear losing their control over other countries which may result from these projects. Such fears are based on their selfish and geopolitical interests.
However, people from all over the world, especially from developing countries have acknowledged the needs and the actual benefits of these projects/loans. They know from their first-hand experience that there is no debt-trap. Academics and researchers have reviewed these projects, and have debunked the debt-trap theory.

Actually, I like people protecting self interest. Japan or France having self protective interest is not bad. It is but their dire need to survive. However much of what some powers project as self interest is far from what they say. He studies India for years and decades, knows its balance sheet better than Indians know. When this negative power sees India rising much beyond comfort, they seek the self protection clause. These sharp minds are dictating how much you can grow, what is permissible.

China strategy is no different from how US treated countries which export goods to US. Not only US squeezes the price but is also using its purchasing power to manipulate political correctness. China, in fact is playing a fairer game than US which can only think of smearing China to combat competition.
All economies need investments for growth. If China can step in to provide much needed investment, it should be welcome. China welcomes US as a competitor and recipient countries are free to choose . Many developing countries are trapped in debt by IMF n World Bank loans n funding which are controlled by the West to keep them in check to serve its interest. It is malicious for the West to suggest that China is throwing away its hard earned money in projects which is not commercially viable.

He is not wrong though. Through the decades. more and more so called democracies have resorted to media control, just like Singapore from the onset.
That's why we need critical thinking along with analytical skills to navigate the information landscape. It is sad that we have to mistrust all incoming information until proven and/or verified.

The state has always tried to control information, since the beginning of time. There was a time when the lower classes weren't even allowed or given access to be able to read, just so they can be more easily controlled. Such was life. A sign of a well-functioning society will be how generalized and well-educated its citizens are, so they can at least theoretically make informed decisions for themselves..
As for Singapore, well, its citizenry are among the highest percentage of highly educated in the world.

China had a refined culture centuries before western fine-dining was born. Fashion and cosmetic were very advanced and sophisticated in the Tang Dynasty and even before. The arts, culture, silk and philosophy were flourishing while the middle class lived in mansions with huge courtyards, opera stage and private pavilions. China's military and social principles were focussed on the population, not the elites. Their emperors worshiped God and all state undertakings must follow the 4 seasons and protect all the contents of planet earth. They respect God, humanity and earth. This is the China of today, not different. Simply by according respects to these three elements, they can do no wrong and can withstand all forces seeking to destroy her. They are protected by the unseen universal force. I have no doubt about this.
