Hey girl! I think I’ve felt like that too. When I made a commitment to not buying new products until they ran out I began to notice how much better my house feels! I love that my room isn’t overfilled with makeup and skincare anymore. I hope your feeling better as well. Heavenly Father, please bless the girl on the other side of this comment and fill her with peace and joy. In Jesus’ name i pray! AMEN
I'm in my mid-thirties and people frequently think I'm at least 10 years younger. I use a drugstore cleanser, moisturizer with spf or night cream, and an eye cream. If I'm gonna be in the sun for a significant amount of time I use a heavier duty sunscreen. That's it.
@@oisforoxygen some people also has just luck with genetics!! And skin. My friend looks in my age but she is way older then me. She has a normal skin with good genetics in the family. No pores, nothing. I have a oily skin and need more products. Example : AHA Peeling twice a week and hyaluronic!
Same! 30 year old and my skin looks 20! All I've been doing is washing my face in the A.M/P.M and through the day when it's oily. I rub Aquaphor or Vaseline on my face before bed. Also wearing sunscreen everytime I go walk the little dog ❤
I feel like a lot of advice about skincare boils down to this: keep it simple and keep it regular. Unless your skin is causing you actual physical pain (such as in the case of cystic acne), a simple routine is likely better. Sure, the necessities aren’t sexy and aren’t being marketed by influencers, but they’re recommended *by doctors* and I trust a doctor who actually went to medical school to study medicine over some influencer.
I have acne all over my face and body since 15 years. Hearing that your skin should "breathe" and "repair itself naturally" is just.. bs. And it makes me angry. Only people with good or normal skin can say this. You only use a creme once a week? And you have awesome skin? GOOD FOR YOU! Because you don't have these kind of problems. I'd rather spend money on these products to find out what suits me and my skin. Now I have found my routine. Acne skin can not just heal randomly by just washing the face and by letting it breathe...
Same here. It's not super crazy but it's stubborn and mine HURTS, just not enough to warrant an expensive dermatologist visit. Like I'm not using 10 steps, maybe around 5, but it's honestly mostly up to genetics I think. Some people can wash their face with literal dish soap and they won't break out 😭
Same, I’ve struggled so much throughout the years, now it’s mostly “controlled” but if I don’t keep up with my skincare routine it’ll just bite me in the bum. I also visit an esthetician every few months
@@Pand45 i didn't do basic skincare, now i do. My skin is getting better. I always had a problem of acne. I now also have some. But they are few now compared to before
I don't think this was the point of this video, as this is more about the unnecessary overconsumption of skincare products which makes people believe you need a 10-20 step skincare routine to have good skin, and ends up buying way too much. The basic routine you need is a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. But if you need treatments for certain issues like acne of course add it in! But you might just need one product for that, not 10. When I had horrible cystic acne, I went to a dermatologist and was prescribed medication (isotretinoin) and differin gel. And she just advised me to do a basic routine (cleanser, moisturizer, suncreen), she didn't give me a huge skincare routine with 10+ products. And my skin finally healed. I've tried many skincare products because I've been tricked by the marketing as well and bought so much skincare because of that. But now I just keep it simple, and I see the same results for 1/5 of the price, and my skin is less irritated than when I use a lot of products. My routine now is a cleansing balm, cerave cleanser, prescription tretinoin, moisturizer, sunscreen and vaseline. And I use honey as a face mask.
Yes! My mother swears by noxema, she started using it from her grandmother. Although, some people are against it. Whenever I use it, my skin looks just like there’s 🥲💕
My mother and I do as well. Noxema drys out my face but it was needed in the summer. My face gets really oily in the heat. Then just put lotion on to bring back the moisture. This skincare stuff is crazy and expensive for no reason.
I use Korean skincare, and I agree that some steps may seem unnecessary, but skipping moisturiser after cleansing… It is an easy way to damage your skin's barrier and age it prematurely. Overall, people blindly purchase products advertised by influencers without understanding their purpose, rather than the number of steps in skincare being the issue. Many Koreans use a multi-step skincare routine, and their skin looks flawless
Its called a good dermatologist. Thats what most koreans have outside of makeup....including the men. A good point of this is Shownu and Cocoloco (from tiktok), they look attractive if one is attracted to asian men. However, the closeups of their faces sans makeup shows their faces as patchy, reddish, moley and sometimes scratchy. The thing is they usually wear makeup and no close ups. South koreans are known for their plastic surgery, its disturbing how so few knkw of their dermatologist sector. These are just two men I myself once followed....the amount of female kpop singers with good money sans makeup....👀👀👀👀👀...they arent flawless dear. Theyre just like everyone else, with more damage I believe from caustic product overload.
I feel it's all about your personal experience & skin journey. As a 30 year old Black man, I have a deep interest in skincare & self-care. Yes my skin-routine is simple IE, cleanser, moisturizer & SPF, but I do enjoy researching ingredients, reading the labels on skincare products & trying new items. Thankfully I've been blessed with not having too many skin issues, no matter what I put on my skin. I do agree that many people are just over purchasing skincare for trends, but then there are some folks who just love that industry. Now what does need to END, are people putting food on their face. Which I thought was left back in the 2000's. An avocado or mango smeared on your face is not going to fix your skin issues. Eating it will do more for you.
Doctors being on TikTok is so weird… I remember there was a time you couldn’t even find doctors except at work 😅 they use to hide like they had warrants out now patients can inbox their docs for refills lol
I do like Dr dray as a dermatologist on yt though bc she reviews products but doesn't encourage overconsumption and isn't afraid to recommend plain old vaseline in her videos
17:34 I appreciate everything this woman said!!!! Please understand this message. Vanity is crazy when ppl are struggling to breathe, eat, & sleep somewhere. I used to be materialistic until I lost everything in 2017. I was happy to be able to shower in hot water and use soap, screw the extra fragrances and products. I have one face soap, one serum, one moisturizer & sometimes I feel like I’m not cool with the times anymore… but screw corporate greedy trends!
Finally someone is talking about this. Every time Ive had an elaborate bougie 10 step skin care routine, I developed HORRIFIC cystic acne. Severe , nodular, painful, burning. Literally every time. I started using Dr bronners all natural gentle organic bar soap ( i use the tea tree one), and then the moisturizing with ELF holy hydration, and then aquaphor for my lips about 2 years ago, and my skin looks amazing. That's it. I swear, when I was doing the elaborate skincare, my skin looked old and crappy, covered in rashes and bumps and peeling and red. My routine now has completely changed my skin, and now my skin is so healthy, clear, and plump. No bumps or rashes, no acne, no peeling red skin, no burning. I swear after 3-4 months of this, I de-aged by like 5 years. 10 step routines ruin my skin.
No, not for me. Proactive never worked and I kept telling my mom who would push it on me. I remember she got a bunch of it from the neighbor and wanted me to have it and I told her I was good. I didn't like it, plus, my ass is too damn lazy to do anymore steps than 1! So after a few weeks without seeing improvement, I stopped. And I only lasted that long because I felt bad that my mom spent money on it, at least the first time. Not talking about when she got the bag of it.
My skincare routine consists of water, soap, and cocoa butter/ shea butter lotion. On top of, minding my business and being grateful for the day the Lord blessed me with. 🙏🏾🥰
I went to the dermatologist last week and I was ready to buy a new cleanser, a new sunscreen, a new moisturizer, and add vitamin c, retinol a tonic/tonner to my routine. So i took the things i already use, and said to her that i have contacted dermatitis, and I'm getting married at the end of the year, so i want better skin, she said everything thing i was using was good, she told me to use tretinoin at night before the moisturiser twice a week and later every other day, a dexapanthenol cream in the extra dry area, to wathc wat i eat and keep hidratante, that was it! May skin is doing good! You truly don't need all that stuff!
You seem like you're still doing more than what the dr. on here suggest. I think you would be good with even half of that stuff and just stay hydrated. Staying hydrated and having a well balanced diet are what will help your skin more than anything! Can you trust this dr? I personally wouldn't because that still seems way too much! No hate, just... I found it odd because that's a lot!
@@wintermoon7003It actually IS NOT TOO MUCH at all. Cleanser & sunscreen is must. Apart from that for skin’s various needs vitamin -A, C is necessary as well. That’s it. That’s exactly it what we need for our skin. It is definitely not too much.
That felt creepy! And I even remember seeing that commercial too! And they had P. Diddler be a spokesman as well? Hm, I wonder why they wanted him to say that!
In a time of climate crisis, the overconsumption of beauty products is honestly disgusting. I remember buying hoards of makeup and throwing hundreds of pounds away at the end of the year, many products which had expired and could no longer be used. I felt ashamed at how so much resources were going to waste. That was back in 2018 and I stopped with my overconsumption of makeup. Skincare followed soon after too. This lifestyle just isn’t sustainable, both monetarily and environmentally. It’s no good to buy products in sustainable packaging if most of it will just go in the bin.
Nobody told you to buy hoards of makeup and toss it out though 😐 and makeup lasts a lot longer than companies say; they tell you that so you'll buy more sooner. That's completely your fault 😂 you guys act like because an influencer says "you HAVE TO BUY THIS" you actually have to.
That just shows how double standar gen z is (as a gen z), they shame people for eating meat while not only throwing skincare or makeup, but clothes the shein trend is out getting of hand The same with beauty the are "body positive" while being the generation with the most plastic surgerys, but someone made a comment about being healthy and the would harrass you 😅
@@athenachristinemusic funny enough, just like my doctor said, my prescription also helps to manage my anxiety- like by a LOT. Proper medication does wonders 😭 I’m glad to hear you’ve also got what you need finally!!

My skincare is: ~cleansing oil ~cleanser ~toner ~moisturizer ~sunscreen ~salicylic acid (sometimes if I need it) ~eye repair cream (because I have really really bad dark circles under my eyes) And that’s all.
Mines Cleanser>Toner>Moisturizer>Sunscreen and my skin is doing good honestly. I think what also help me was just using one brand lol. Now I'll throw in a Korean rice mask when I wanna be bougie that night lol.
I have the same skincare routine as yours. Double cleansing is a must because I put on makeup for work. Without proper cleansing, I'll definitely get pimples the next day hahaha. I enjoy facial steaming, clay mask, and aloe vera mask once in a week 😉
@@jellyfish_bubblesI think maybe they don't use them all at once every day? For me, I use cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen in the morning; oil cleanser, cleanser and moisturizer in the night. And I have a retinoid every other night
As an esthetician all you need really is a mild cleansing milk or gel depending on your skin type, hylauronic acid, a fragrance free moisturizer and sunscreen during the day
Yesss, the milk cleanser is so real, when you have dry and sensitive skin. I was wasting money on all these foaming cleansers or harsher stripping cleansers when I all ai needed was a milk cleanser.
@@NO-bb4bw yes, Retinol is a powerful tool against aging skin and acne, but it's not for everyone. If you're prone to allergies or have sensitive skin, you might want to try skincare products with alternative antiaging or skin-clearing ingredients. Retinol may damage the skin barrier in some types of skin
For real, my skin was at its worst when I used 8-9steps skincare. Its so counter productive, and wasteful. I now use only 3 things, facewash, prescription azelic acid, and moisturiser(pm)/sunscreen(am), my skin has less breakouts and is more glowy now. I think this overconsumption of skincare, is taking advantage of people who are desperate to try anything to improve their skin. In the end it takes everyone some time to realize best skincare is simple and minimal. Your skin already knows what its supposed to do so need for aggressive exfoliation, 3xlayers of moisturiser , or different serums and oils. Keep it simple and use sunscreen!
I use the four basic things: Cleanser, Toner, Moisturizer, and Sunscreen. My skin doing a better now vs when I was doing alot of stuff! Also, two biggest thing that help it out was using one brand and taking my vitamins every morning.
Im 20 years old and this is my minimalistic skincare routine (PM) 1.Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser (I don't double cleanse unless i am wearing any makeup ) 2.Cetaphil oil free daily hydrating lotion 3. Sunscreen in the day time My skin texture pigmentation has improved a lot and looks really healthy glowy. I'm so grateful. " Less is more" has actually worked for me .
This is basically mine too, just 0.1% retinol instead of adapalene, but in addition I just use a niacinamide serum for skin texture, hydration and barrier function. In the morning I only use the niacinamide and moisturiser, no cleanser. Sunscreen when needed.
I use a natural soap olive oil based and hydrating mist. I don't believe you need loads of lotion for perfect skin. My skin has loads od stretch marks and kp and no moisturizer has helped with that. AT ALL. So it's mostly a marketing gimmick. Plus my mum has never used any lotion on her body but she has great skin. No kp or stretch marks. Its mostly genetics
This was by far my favorite video you’ve done. I’ve always been into skincare and I tell people all the time, do what works for your skin. Research. Go to a LICENSED esthetician or dermatologist and ask them to help you figure out your skin type and concerns. Less is more. Just because it’s expensive doesn’t make it better!
I totally agree! I’ve stopped using too many skin care products not because it’s only expensive, but overwhelming and takes up a lot of time over a long period. Now at max I only use 4 products, cleanser, toner pad, serum and a good moisturizer & sunscreen if I go outside.
I tried syrums a couple times just cause they were available as a Sephora birthday present option. They were nice but I didn't see much difference so I stopped. I stick to a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. For fun on a weekend I'll occasionally do a sheet mask. I was also blessed as a teenager in having fairly clear skin (aside from the dreded period pimple!) I feel now as an adult something that has helped me is I almost never wear foundation. When I do makeup, I stick to my eyes and lips and leave the rest bare. I have been tempted in the past by the Korean 10 Steps....but I'm too lazy and cheap.
@@britneyt9253 it's a combo of not doing it when I was young and now as an adult. I'm 41 so the foundation of my teens starting in the 90s (in my opinion) were very pore clogging. I didn't potentially make my skin worse (cause hormones are raging then!) by adding another layer on top of my skin all day. And I'll admit, I would probably have been lazy and not necessarily washed it off before bed.
Serums are usually actives to address skin issues, if you don’t have those skin issues you won't see a difference. If you have hyperpigmentation and use a Vitamin C serum, you will see it work, but if you have an even skin tone, what would you see? Nothing.
Ah same here. Cleanser, toner, moisturizer with oil in it (plus sunscreen in the morning). When I’m going out, it’s only baby powder, eyeliner, lipstick. My skin loves it that way
Proactive actually worked in the 90s... I'll try to use it again in 2005..NOPE! It was like burning my skin. I just went back to using noxzema and still use as well as changed my diet
The thing I hate about brands is that they never make sample sizes of things like foundation or so . Sometimes it happens that we buy things online as we all don't have sephora nearby or so then the shade doesn't match or we don't like the formula etc. Then the full product just go to waste. I feel so guilty about it, also not all of us do makeup daily to need a full size bottle.
I've got samples of foundation before. However that was years ago when fashion magazines were a thing. You would get a coupon and go to the beauty counter in a department store then they would give you a sample. I ended up using Estée Lauder then they discontinued my colour for 10 years. They have now brought it back.
I have bachelors degree in biochemistry, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide are used in cosmetic products to help stabilize the pH. If you have a skin issue please see a doctor or licensed medical professional. That being said, I do use 3 serums from the ordinary (it’s a very cheap brand for skin care) because I have combo skin. 1 is lactic acid peeling and I use it when I have peeling skin, 2 is zinc-niacinamide serum and I use it for my acne prone skin, 3 is just hydrolauronic acid and it’s when my skin is dry. Then I use moisturizer, a chemical sunscreen (because I have dark skin) and a salicylic acid cleanser.
They clearly didn’t pay attention in those chem classes. Not to mention the body produces HCl so it’s not like it’s some bizarre and foreign synthetic thing
Hello, I NEED HELP and don’t know who to ask. I personally LOVE Kiehls Facial Fuel Moisturizer but it has one chemical in it that has me scared to death. POLYPERFLUOROMETHYLISOPROPYL-ETHER Is it safe for me to continue to use health wise?
@@brandonsmith7137 idk I’m not a doctor or toxicologist so I’m not qualified to give advice on your health. If it’s not causing irritation, me personally I wouldn’t be scared of it.
There are physical sunscreeens that will not show up white on dark skin. Chemical sunscreens aren't good and as one that has studied biology you may know that. Try Biossance sunscreen. It is a physical sunscreen that will go on clear on your skin.
Yes all you need is a good cleanser and moisturizer. And SPF during the day. I’m all about Korean skincare cause there’s nothing like it and I love the Korean 7-10 step skincare routines. I personally do a 7 step skincare routine both morning and night. Been doing it for years and skincare is personal. Are all those extra steps necessary? No. But it’s what I love to do and there’s nothing wrong with that either. My skin has never looked better.
@@wintermoon7003 it's not stupidity if they're literally acknowledging it. they even just said skincare is PERSONAL. at least they're not spending thousands on handbags or luxury cars, spending on a few extra skincare products is nowhere near as bad as that.
My skincare routine consists of 1) cleansing with a rose scented soap. 2) rosewater mist OR rosewater toner to shrink blackheads. 3) cerave daily moisturizer for my face. If I notice that I start developing acne, I check the humidity percentage for that day in my weather app and depending on what that says, I might skip the Cerave. 4) Vaseline for the lips. My skin has never looked better than it does now. I'm 41. And actually like the smile lines/crow's feet that form around my eyes. I'm looking forward to aging gracefully. Edit: I never use SPF. I need the vitamin D due to deficiency. Also, I'm mostly a hermit and am indoors most of the time.
I have oily AND sensitive skin AND I'm prone to acne. I can tell you the only products that helped me were the ones that a dermatologist prescribed to me. The ONLY things that worked for me, and I'm still using those products after 15 years. Doing experiments with random products isn't worth it, the best thing is to go to a dermatologist
I got a soap from the TikTok shop to help with hyperpigmentation. The comments were all "it's the holy grail" yeah well, 2 weeks later I am in the Dermatology office with Fungal acne, cystic acne on my chin and a bacterial hair follicle condition. Now I have been on oral and topical antibiotic Clindamycin and Tretinoin, and it's been 2 months, and It's still not cleared up. So, be careful what you try out just because others say to.
Wow, what soap was it? What ingredients did it have? That’s crazy. I've heard people say you shouldn’t buy skincare on Amazon, Temu, TikTok shop, etc. because they are likely to be dropshipped and even if they are branded, they may be fake versions.
@@JasminMiettunen I can't say brand because it was just some TikTok influencer, but the soap was one of those orange/yellow ones with Turmeric, Kojic Acid, and Honey. I am still struggling with my skin ever since. I think it's so fast and easy to buy skin care online, we don't think of possible side effects or even product temp changes can effect a formula. Mold and fungus can grow in products without preservatives.
I’m almost 40. When I was a teen/early twenties, I thought that if my skin felt TIGHT then it was clean and healthy. I used stuff like Noxema, StrideX, and St Ives Apricot Scrub - and I’ve always had really sensitive skin so it was bad 🙈 Now I’m all about hydration. If I do makeup on a given day, it’s full face, so I’ll use pure cold pressed EVOO as a remover/ first cleanse. If no makeup then I go straight to Cerave “dry to extra dry” hydrating cleanser. Then I use the ELF gel-yeah squaline gel, Cerave moisturizer (the one in the large container- I use it on my body and my face), and after it dries down a bit I top it off with Bio-Oil to keep the moisture in. My skin is so happy 😊
I have dry skin. I use a toner spray and snail mucin with simple cleanser and moisturizer to hydrate and plump. Sometimes I use the Paula's Choice retinol at night Don't overdo it
I'm a skincare junkie, and I couldn't agree more. I don't think these girls are truly interested in skincare. What they want is to HAVE the products. I won't pretend I never fell for the marketing (at one point I was placing orders every week), but never to this point. These girls could open a store with all their stock. Also, why buy several of the same products??? Especially if you've never tried it before? The most skincare I ever had "in stock" was like, two small full boxes, and it took me TWO YEARS to use them all. Half of their stock is gonna go to waste.
I love this video. Thanks a lot for speaking about this topic. In the current state of the world overconsumption is so frustrating to see and those people aren't even helping themselves. Skincare seems like a competition now more than an actual care of health. Skin is an organ so it naturally has it's own functionality. It's best use only the products that the skin demands to fulfill it's job as an organ. Just listen to your body and carry on❤
During the middle ages people wore linen undergarments. These absorb sweat and excess body oil and reduced body odor. And, while clothes were not washed as often, under clothes were designed to protect your clothing from your body and were changed frequently. :)
I struggled with acne throughout my 20's and 30's and I found out in my early 40s that spf was what I needed all this time. I know, it sounds bad but I thought that every sunscreen was breaking me out. Big mistake! Now I use a parfum free products and avoid acne skincare lines. I also patch test and introduce new products slowly. Now I have cleanser, serum and spf routine.
The fact that nobody talks about subliminal affirmations for perfect skin and beauty on Borlest speaks volumes about how people are missing out. Trust me on this-using subliminals can change your life. The power of the mind to heal and transform your skin is incredible when you tap into the right frequencies.
The fact that only you spoke about this speaks volumes about how people need to take care about themselves mentally rather than relying on skincare and ppl aren't doing the mental work
No…no, no, no. NO! Affirmations, subliminals, are a PSEUDOSCIENCE! They are good for mindfulness, gratitude, and building a more positive mindset. You cannot, I repeat, CANNOT change your physical appearance or health conditions with your mind! You cannot heal serious medical issues, this is fraud!
Honestly what helped my skin is healthier eating habits, cutting out dairy, junk foods, and I quit drinking coffee energy drinks and alcohol, but if I want caffeine I drink green tea, also drink lots of water but it does help to have some skin care as well get older if you want to maintain supple skin when your in your 30s like me
@@niqerfaguettranykyke👆🏾thank you. People are convinced that dairy can’t be a huge part of a healthy diet for anyone lol. Don’t cut out any whole food unless you’re allergic! There’s valuable nutrition in diary and we don’t need to complicate diets…just like skincare
Dairy breaks me out too. I get cystic acne along my chin every time. I can have it every once in a while but too many times in a row and I get bad breakouts that take weeks to resolve.
I honestly and greatly needed this video. I am super addicted to skin care…I constantly keep on buying skin care that I honestly don’t need which is super addictive, wasteful & unhealthy. I need to really chill. Thanks Again ❤️
I remember my older cousin used proactive and I think it dried her skin out too. She decided to stop using it. But they found out later that they were charging her mom's card for more products months in advance without telling them. So she pretty much had a bunch of product she didn't even want or need. And you know they acted funny about refunds. Total nightmare 😅
Same thing happened to me in 2000. It burned my face. So I stopped using. I called them to cancel and they still charged me and sent anyway. It went on for like 1 or 3 months. Ridiculous.
I love all of these people recommending "anti aging" stuff while looking 20 years older while me here being 23 looking 15 because I only used water all my life because i'm allergic to most of this stuff
Doing too much to your facial skin can be very damaging. All I use is an odor-free soap and a light odor-free moisturizer. Also, it's good to get enough sleep, drink enough water, and protect your skin from the sun.
They really do and it's really sad. When I was modeling they only gave me like maybe four products that I needed to use and everything else. They said it was pretty much a scam
The historical part was ok accurate until the Middle Ages . The Middle Ages was the heir of antiquity when it comes to hygiene. The Roman and Greek thermae turned into public baths tubes (for the poorest) or private bath tubes (for the richest). The breaking point actually happened at the very end of the Middle Ages/beginning of Renaissance when it comes to hygiene habits when people started to stop bathing like completely stopped. Moreover you mistake the word Renaissance with the whole early modern era. Renaissance is only 16th century. People were still "dirty" up to the 2nd half of the 18th century. And even afterwards, the daily bath was definitely not a thing for an average person even in ghe 1960s for material/financial reason.
This Neutrogena Grapefruit Facewash & Moisturizer for $11.99 each has never failed me. Proactive almost took me out in high school. It dried out my skin so bad, looked like I severe eczema.
THAT'S WHAT I'M USING! I love it! Though, I will buy the Biore charcoal for oily prone skin and love it! I love both of those brands and stick to them! I have ventured to try other products but it always left my skin feeling... less than amazing! Just very greasy and oily no matter how little I would use. It would make my face feel gross.
Ever since I started buying skincare from Sephora my skin has been flawless. Once a year I'll buy a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, chemical peel, facial mask of some sort, and under eye treatment. It sounds like a lot of product but I typically use them when my skin is looking a certain way. I let my skin tell me what it needs. Sometimes the chemical peel will give me a "face lift" so to speak. I rarely use it because it would burn my face off. It instantly makes my skin look years younger. Drunk Elephant's Babyfacial.
1) The host has incredibly beautiful skin. 2) I always wanted to know what happened to Proactive 3) I’m so glad someone exposed KBeauty. I do use KBeauty because I’ve noticed a difference in my skin. However, I’ve always thought the concept of a 10 step skincare routine expensive and impossible to keep up with when you have a busy schedule. I’m so glad I never bought into it!
I remember when I posted my skincare routine products: sunscreen, retinol and moisturizer. Someone reposted it to make fun of me because I wasn't using enough things. Sorry dude, I just need those 3 things. I only added retinol until the age of 26.
After testing sooooo much over the years, simple really is best (I’m also a trained esthetician). Definitely recommend only using 2 active ingredients MAX in a routine to not overwhelm your skin barrier. Morning time I use bioderma sensibo micellar water and the good molecules SPF. Night time I use whatever fragrance free foaming cleanser I have that month, adapalene gel, and then I mix gold bond eczema lotion with 3 drops of castor or rosehip seed oil and done. Cheap, easy, stress free👍🏻 My sensitive acne prone skin is thriving with this!
With skincare always introduces product one by one. Wait for 2 weeks before introducing new product. At one point you may need 10 products to heal your skin. But once its healed try minimizing the number of products to only essential products. For people with good skin they can get by with minimal products. But if you are like me with multiple skin concerns it takes time. To give an example someone might pop their pimples to avoid this they will use pimple patches. Where as another person might not pop then their level of consumption differs. We need to ask ourselves if we need the product for our skin or are we following a trend
My skin feels better when I put less products! All I used was micellar water with niacinamide and zinc, BHA cleanser (sometimes), snail mucin serum, spot treat, and SPF! I don't exfoliate anymore since I can get it from my BHA cleanser. On top of that, I do PRP from time to time. It's less time consuming imo and I get to do other things in life!
The most I usually use is 5 things every couple days post evening shower/face cleanse. Toner, blackhead and white head power liquid from corsx, dual power snail essence and a cream to top it off. And of course sunscreen when going out.
When I was in high school all the popular girls were using Proactive. I used it when I got into college. It worked great until I couldn’t afford it anymore. My acne came back twice as bad! My mom said I wasn’t getting the center of the blemishes out and that’s why it was so bad. It became like cystic acne! I became a “picker/squeezer” and my skin is scarred now. I wash my face with only water now. If I wear makeup, I remove it with sensitive baby wipes before I rinse with water.
My personal rule for my skin is to try not to layer more than two or three things. For me, anything more than that, constantly, is bad news. And my skin took about a year to come back from an awful set of acne. I find that people change up too fast.
All I use is a cleanser, moisturizer, retinol serum, hyaluronic acid serum, and an under eyes cream. I need to find a good sunscreen but I haven’t yet. I have sensitive skin so the idea of using anything more or constantly changing what I’m using terrifies me.
I got so influenced by the overconsumption of skincare till at one point my brain just shut off and refused to do any skincare cause i thought any product that i use is 'not good enough'.. now i just went back to using my good ol' hatomugi skincare. 🤷♀️
I remember Proactiv drying the heck out of people's skin. Around 2007(?), I asked my(my sister's) dermatologist if it was any good and he told me not to use it, but he also wouldn't give me anything for my acne...so i was like wtf...
I barely wear any makeup because of all the problems it causes. I caught chicken pox at 25 and my skin during pms since has been complicated. Now all I do is the minimum. My skin care products are very simple and lots of natural masks. Mascara and lip gloss or lip stain.
I used ProActiv and it dried my skin out so bad, and made my skin so sensitive to the touch. When I was in highschool, I had cystic acne and my dermatologist had to drain my cystic acne with a needle. She gave me three months of free Acutane and my cystic acne flared up so bad my skin was on fire and so inflamed with tiny puss bumps. My face hurt so bad for those nearly five to six months but after my skin reacted, my cystic acne healed up and my skin was finally clear. I haven't had skin issues since highschool. I don't have any scars thankfully.
I have sensitive skin, but I'm allergic to aloe vera-- which is in almost every single sensitive skin product. I've tried dozens of skin products, and the only thing that made my skin **glow** was Tatcha, which is like... $150+ for a month's supply. I've found solace in Cerave cleanser and Hers moisturizers, the only two things that don't irritate my skin that also don't cause allergic reactions. Thanks for this wonderful video. You make great content.
@@mniellie in my experience, korean sunscreens are very good at that. The ones i have are all suitable for sensitive skin and they don't contain aloe vera
I used to use all the products of the ordinary, body shop and so many brands at Sephora, it took me years to realize that it actually irritated my skin and made me breakout more. Now all I use is Kojic acid soap and milk toner and my skin has never looked better and not as sensitive. Also helped on my budget too.
This is why I just use water to wash my face. I use any lotion…and light makeup or no makeup. I don’t care. I’ll age the normal way. Lmao. Not wasting money on so much crap.
Me I never fell for the overconsumption of skincare or ever indulging in a extensive skincare routine mostly because there's only so much you can do with multiple products, but also spending that much on products especially when companies want to push out small sizes or one time use products never quite interested me. Not saying i have the most perfect skin but sometimes having just the basics makes me feel less overwhelmed and pressured. But if i had the finances and time i would probably be focusing on my skincare and hair routine on the daily, but that's just me.
I've tried Proactiv twice. Once as a teen, & again as an adult. Each time it would make my skin burn/tingle, like there was acid on my skin. It was painful & so uncomfortable. Didn't help with my acne at all either.
I have oily skin and use just three things: -water -sugar( scrub once a week) -moisturizer (I use baby creams) You don't need so much products. It will make it worse
I was buying a lot of skincare for some time to a point there was no space in my drawers for a new products. Now I know which ingredients are the best for me, what works for my skin type and what not✨ I know I spent a lot on skincare but at least I have a good skin now😅
Remember back then when they introduced 10 step korean skin care routine? I tried it and mess up of skin, i studied in korea and all of my korean friends call BS on that, most korean themselves only use up to 5 products and 2 of those products is cleansing products, the rest is just simple serum and moisturizer/sunscreen.
Best thing for when I get unexplainable breakouts? Dettol antiseptic bar soap. Few days later and it clears up. I continue then with my everyday cleanser, La Roche posay toleriane, after my skin gets back to normal
The lady who said the all natural isn't the best YES im always trying to explain to people that so many allergens are from natural things/ingredients so they always put all natural and hypoallergenic when thats not the case im allergy to baking soda thats all natural and in so many products and almost every all natural/ hypoallergenic products. Same with latex, peanuts both can be deadly.
I spent years and a lot of money exploring different skincare, but in the end the only thing that fixed my acne was medication prescribed by the dermatologist. Now I just wash my face, moisturize and wear sunscreen, nothing else.
All these points would be valid except I have dry skin and live in a dry climate. And I have sensitive skin so slathering on that vaseline isnt gonna cut it for me.
The more I tried on my skin the worse it got, the skin ‘purge’ is the biggest marketing bullpoop imo because it is impossible for the average consumer to tell the difference between, irritation, allergic reaction spots, clogging/breaking out and a genuine ‘purge’ - the amount of times I’ve pushed through the, it gets worse before it gets better period only to wreck my skin 😅
I can't understand ppl who hoard skincare. If it's make up I feel like it's not that bad because let's be honest we mostly using expired make up at some point 🤫 but skincare is a big no no for me. I always buy aloe vera moisturizer from The Ssaem that have big bulky jar and I feel like a champion whenever I finish those till the bottom ✊🏻😤 the jar even reusable I always use them to put some accesories
I definitely have this problem because I grew up raised by my parents who have a scarcity mindset, which I adopted. They grew up in a third world country in the aftermath of a brutal war and communist regime, and resources were scarce and starvation was normal. When they finally escaped to the USA, eventually they built themselves up and began to hoard resources over time. They would buy anything that went on sale even if we didn’t really need it. They raised me in this way (we were also homeless for some time which did not help). Due to these influences, I became someone who gradually began hoarding items as well. When I first got a job as a teenager, I would spend my entire paychecks on art supplies as I loved to do art. And now that I am into skincare, I hoard skincare and buy whenever things are on sale. I have a problem and I’m trying to do better. The only thing I can say is that at least I also gift products to my family so nothing expires before someone can use it. Because of the scarcity mindset I learned, I never waste products. Thanks for this video.
Ive had the same skin care routine for literal years ...cerave hydrating cleanser and cerave pm moisturizer and Neutrogena spf works for me.. If it ain't broke don't fix it. 😅
I fell into the over consumption with skin care and makeup but I’ve cut down significantly. I only use 5 skincare products. Cleanser, toner/exfoliant, tretinion, sunscreen and moisturizer. Same with makeup I stick with what’s been working. I don’t have the urge to try everything anymore.
I remember some people from Clean and Clear went to my HS and convinced us that we all needed to use their products, they gave us a bunch of products. I stupidly used them. I have extremely dry skin, after a few days I looked like I had powder on my face as it was so dry because of the alcohol. Funny thing some years later I won on a magazine a whole kit of clean and clear products, gave them all away to a friend who had acne
During my teenager years, I only use clenser and moisturizer, as moisturizer I only use aloe vera because it cool down my skin and makes my skin plumpy and shiny if I wear them overnight. On the day I had sports or outdoor activity I use sunscreen that can be wash off with cleanser to save money lol. I get perfect skin now eventhough I'm 24 y/o. These are still my routine but with a toner as an extra if I'm near my period because now I'm prone to get acne on week before my period.
I used to be skincare obsessed. I couldn’t see I was masking my depression with buying things.
AMEN
Aww, I understand that. And just wanting that self care element to make yourself feel better. I hope you’re doing better now❤

Omg me too, I didn’t realise it until I read your comment 🥲
Yes! The minimal skincare routine is the best. And never skip the sunscreen 🧴
I'm in my mid-thirties and people frequently think I'm at least 10 years younger. I use a drugstore cleanser, moisturizer with spf or night cream, and an eye cream. If I'm gonna be in the sun for a significant amount of time I use a heavier duty sunscreen. That's it.
@@oisforoxygenwhat products do you use please?
@@oisforoxygen some people also has just luck with genetics!! And skin. My friend looks in my age but she is way older then me. She has a normal skin with good genetics in the family. No pores, nothing. I have a oily skin and need more products. Example : AHA Peeling twice a week and hyaluronic!
Same! 30 year old and my skin looks 20! All I've been doing is washing my face in the A.M/P.M and through the day when it's oily. I rub Aquaphor or Vaseline on my face before bed. Also wearing sunscreen everytime I go walk the little dog ❤
Unfortunately sun screen breaks me out, always.
Not the Diddy ad after Bieber 😂
I feel like a lot of advice about skincare boils down to this: keep it simple and keep it regular. Unless your skin is causing you actual physical pain (such as in the case of cystic acne), a simple routine is likely better. Sure, the necessities aren’t sexy and aren’t being marketed by influencers, but they’re recommended *by doctors* and I trust a doctor who actually went to medical school to study medicine over some influencer.
I only listen to my esthetician
The worst advice ever heard.
Moisturizer, sunscreen skincare is important if you want a healthy skin.
My Mom used noxema, ponds and oil of olay. She died at 76 and had the most beautiful skin. She never wore make up except lipstick. She was stunning 🥲❤
Yes! My mother swears by noxema, she started using it from her grandmother. Although, some people are against it. Whenever I use it, my skin looks just like there’s 🥲💕
😭😭😭😭😭😭 LONG LIVE MAMA
My mother and I do as well. Noxema drys out my face but it was needed in the summer. My face gets really oily in the heat. Then just put lotion on to bring back the moisture. This skincare stuff is crazy and expensive for no reason.
I’m laughing so hard first it was Justin Bieber, and now Diddy
Real talk. And if you were extra oily, Albolene creme melted any and all kinds of makeup.
What products do you use please?
Literally korean skincare products saved my skin!
their diet is different too
I also use Korean skincare because my skin is dry and sensitive. A mix of Etude House Soon Jung and Hanskin hyaluron products helped me a lot.

Although original proactive worked well way back then , but then afterwards the formula changed once they went celeb like everything else does.
Yea proactiv actually worked for me AFTER I used sunblock with it
No, not for me.

Make up and skin care are two very different things
Nobody told you to buy hoards of makeup and toss it out though 😐 and makeup lasts a lot longer than companies say; they tell you that so you'll buy more sooner. That's completely your fault 😂 you guys act like because an influencer says "you HAVE TO BUY THIS" you actually have to.
That just shows how double standar gen z is (as a gen z), they shame people for eating meat while not only throwing skincare or makeup, but clothes the shein trend is out getting of hand

3. Sunscreen in the day time
My skin texture pigmentation has improved a lot and looks really healthy glowy.
Add sunscreen and double cleanse at night. Sunscreen is a must-have.
Hi just curious, why do you think not wearing foundation helped you as an adult?

You’re the second person to say this. I wonder if they just ‘cheaped’ out
Nestle joined in 2000, so that's probably it.
I think once you figure out a routine that works for you, you should stick with it and leave the "variety" options to stuff like body wash and makeup.

@@JEWELzAF i wish you a speedy recovery
I’m almost 40. When I was a teen/early twenties, I thought that if my skin felt TIGHT then it was clean and healthy. I used stuff like Noxema, StrideX, and St Ives Apricot Scrub - and I’ve always had really sensitive skin so it was bad 🙈
Now I’m all about hydration.
Sometimes I use the Paula's Choice retinol at night
Don't overdo it
Snail mucin taught me i have wayyyyy too many skincare products. It knocked out so many products for me.
@@mrod87 for real! You don't need all these serums and extra actives if you just use snail mucin (for my dry skin people)

They smelled horrible in the middle ages though. Let's not pretend they didn't.
@@aesinamwere you there ?

The fact that only you spoke about this speaks volumes about how people need to take care about themselves mentally rather than relying on skincare and ppl aren't doing the mental work
@Amitcomedyshort shut up
subliminal affirmations 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 you people keep getting dumber and dumber by the day
girl wtf
No…no, no, no. NO! Affirmations, subliminals, are a PSEUDOSCIENCE! They are good for mindfulness, gratitude, and building a more positive mindset. You cannot, I repeat, CANNOT change your physical appearance or health conditions with your mind! You cannot heal serious medical issues, this is fraud!
Honestly what helped my skin is healthier eating habits, cutting out dairy, junk foods, and I quit drinking coffee energy drinks and alcohol, but if I want caffeine I drink green tea, also drink lots of water but it does help to have some skin care as well get older if you want to maintain supple skin when your in your 30s like me
Something must be wrong with you if you get breakouts from dairy. I eat youghurt and have my espresso with milk everyday and I never get problems.
Girl, you got a strong will power to cut out all those things from your diet.
Dairy breaks me out too. I get cystic acne along my chin every time. I can have it every once in a while but too many times in a row and I get bad breakouts that take weeks to resolve.
Honestly I might try this it’s gonna be hard but it’s better o hav r clear skin
The problem is products that use to be good is now trash because they using cheap and harmful ingredients but the price staying the same
My skincare routine consists of soap, water and jojoba oil (even use it on my face which is extremely oily). That's pretty much it.
Pretty much same here. I use natural olive oil soap and hydrating mist. But I am trying to incorporate almond oil occasionally
What were they?
I'm curious too about what kind of skincare modeling agencies give models, I've never heard about that!

2) I always wanted to know what happened to Proactive
3) I’m so glad someone exposed KBeauty.
Proactive gave me my breakthrough as a teenager. I was okay with going outside again😊.
Everything is a chemical
Thank you! It drives me nuts when people says something is “free of chemicals”. Water is a chemical!
Wow, you do realize chemical has another meaning right? A substance that has been purifed, especially artificially.
@@nadiahassan5307 processed chemicals… don’t be slow
Exactly.
Diddy n Justin do not belong in the same facility
4:48 It’s crazy to see this after the arrests and allegations. 😫
And todayy everything is about suncream 😂😂😂
I remember Proactiv drying the heck out of people's skin. Around 2007(?), I asked my(my sister's) dermatologist if it was any good and he told me not to use it, but he also wouldn't give me anything for my acne...so i was like wtf...
I barely wear any makeup because of all the problems it causes. I caught chicken pox at 25 and my skin during pms since has been complicated. Now all I do is the minimum. My skin care products are very simple and lots of natural masks. Mascara and lip gloss or lip stain.
Well spoken. Simplicity is key 🔑🙏🏾❤️🧘🏾♀️🇬🇧
That Justin ad makes me understand why people were going crazy. “it’s pretty chill” 😂
Not diddy saying it moisturize his situation 😩🫠

Wash your face with water
Moisturizer
Suncream
If you have acne :
Accutane
Retinoid.
That's it
I have sensitive skin, but I'm allergic to aloe vera-- which is in almost every single sensitive skin product.
Omg, I’m allergic to aloe, too. 😢 I thought I was the only one. It’s suck because all the best skin care products have aloe.

I used to use all the products of the ordinary, body shop and so many brands at Sephora, it took me years to realize that it actually irritated my skin and made me breakout more. Now all I use is Kojic acid soap and milk toner and my skin has never looked better and not as sensitive. Also helped on my budget too.
Amount of money I've spent on skincare products in 2024 so far: $0.
I have oily skin and use just three things:
-water
-sugar( scrub once a week)
-moisturizer (I use baby creams)
You don't need so much products. It will make it worse
I was buying a lot of skincare for some time to a point there was no space in my drawers for a new products.
Now I know which ingredients are the best for me, what works for my skin type and what not✨
I know I spent a lot on skincare but at least I have a good skin now😅
Remember back then when they introduced 10 step korean skin care routine? I tried it and mess up of skin, i studied in korea and all of my korean friends call BS on that, most korean themselves only use up to 5 products and 2 of those products is cleansing products, the rest is just simple serum and moisturizer/sunscreen.
Best thing for when I get unexplainable breakouts? Dettol antiseptic bar soap. Few days later and it clears up. I continue then with my everyday cleanser, La Roche posay toleriane, after my skin gets back to normal
Old adults have acne and oily skin too. And it’s VERY oily and I’m full of zits!! I’ve had this problem for 27 years!!
I still break out in my late 60s.
Seeing this before black friday is a blessing. Spend wisely everyone ❤
Great video, I have always spoke about not layering products. Awareness needs to be more available.
