yes and no.... the function of the skin is actually to keep things OUT. If we were meant to absorb everything that our skin gets in contact with, we could get drunk just by putting our hand a bowl of vodka. Or if we swam in a body of water, we would swell up. There are certain chemicals that can be absorbed by the skin but those chemicals are most definitely not in any modern personal care formulas due to regulation and safety measures. There are also certain medications that can be administered trans-dermal. Some skincare products utilize penetration enhancers to deliver ingredients deeper in the skin but again, OTC personal products can only travel so far into the skin without needing to be labeled as a drug. If something can be absorbed trans-dermal and it changes or alters the function of an organ, it HAS to be labeled as a drug. Some micro traces of ingredients (and im taking MICRO micro micro micro) can be found in the blood but our bodies use our liver and kidneys to process any of that out of our blood through waste removal. So no harm can actually occur. The Johnson&Johnson case is mostly anecdotal. Companies like this spend a ton of money on research and development and part of that team is a team of toxicologists. Their job is to make sure the products can cause harm to the human body. It makes no sense for a company to make products that make you sick. They want to make a product that you wanna buy over and over again.
This becomes worse when little girls around the ages 4-12 ARE USING SKINCARE THAT ISNT EVEN MADE FOR THEM 😭 like little Emily doesn't need A FUXKING RETINOL
That's even way worse and also with this reminds me of horror stories about this and also just saw something like this in a Bob's Burgers Comic or Graphic Novel however it's now known not the TV show about a story line like this really may want to check that series out as well as the comics. Along with any horror about this only this is way real and more worse than what those can depict.
In Europe there are close to 10,000 or more chemicals and additives banned for use in personal care products. In America, only 11. The average consumer would be shocked to find out the number of toxic ingredients sold with the suggestion they will make us healthier or prettier

I got into skincare in my teens but got confused when I started developing expressive wrinkles on my forehead and smile lines at 20. I was literally only using moisturizer and cleanser. I stopped skincare and my wrinkles disappeared. Eating a healthy diet now and let vitamins and minerals do their job.
Hmmm did you use sunscreen 🤔 because I barely used it when I was young and I always wondered why I had horrible skin till the age of 27. Obviously now I'm 31 my skin looks much nicer people say I look 23 all because of a good skincare, face packs, facials, and sunscreen

I used everything for decades. I loved the pretty bottles. My poor skin and hair. I now make it all myself. With things like beeswax and organic almond oil and herbs and flowers I grow myself. My skin and hair and nails are healthy again. I give little jars away to anybody who wants them. But most people do not know anything. They trust the cosmetic companies, and well, they like the pretty bottles.
I live in the UK, and I'm going over 45 year's ago. A new hair shampoo came on the market. It smelt devine, I tried it, it was called woodley green apple. That was a bad decision. I was covered from head to toe in great big red raised blotches, they were so itchy, and felt very hot. It wasn't long after that it was withdrawn from the market. Looking back on it, I dread to think what was in it, I had these blotches for well over a week!
I remember when I was 13 I put on this vitamin E lotion, I’m not allergic to vitamin E. I broke out everywhere though in these horrible, painful rashes. At 19, I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I always wondered, if that’s what caused it. You never know, it’s scary.
@@Ninnjette-It's highly unlikely, one use for a short period of time is insufficient to have a sufficient probability of causing cancer unless there were some really illegal chemicals in that formulation. It's most likely that you had an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients in it or that it wasn't preserved adequately.
I remember Woodley green shampoo and matching soap. Late 1970s and used it, maybe I was lucky. I got a new head and shoulders for my son once, it made him itch like mad,, my. Son in law and my other son also bought it and also itched like mad. That new head and shoulders quickly got discontinued. I think it was mint scented. I never used it. Why don't they test these products properly before they inflict them on consumers.
@@herrflick1244 They do test them before they are launched into the market (typically) some products will have negative reactions for some people and perhaps to a large minority to warrant its removal but it would likely not cause permanent or exceeding harm and would likely be fit for purpose by the majority. Some people get atopic dermatitis from some products/ingredients and it has a genetic component ingrained in it, it's best to avoid products with excessive amounts of irritable ingredients and monitor/isolate potential irritants.
I always had the theory that the beauty industry and other women pressure young girls into using make-up and then they get bad skin causing them to use even more. in the process they age faster and use even more.
You're just paranoid. People who come up with conspiracy theories are lost in life. They feel hopeless, so they'd rather blame something or someone. There's a whole study about this.
Absolutely not. Lab rats are used to conduct experiments where you want to see the outcome of said tests. These people do not care to know the effects of their chemical concoctions, and it there could be an argument made that their ignorance of the results would be of benefit to avoid accusations of complicity
I wash my face with plain, natural soap and moisturize with organic lard or tallow. When my skin gets too dry, I switch to washing with honey. My skin is soft and smooth, and it looks a hundred times better than it did when I was young and buying products from the store.
@@neema1tallow generally doesn't clog pores and it's composition is similar to the oils produced by skin, so might actually help balance oily skin and get rid of acne. Shea butter works similarly, as not everybody enjoys the smell of tallow on skin. But tallow is a great skin care product.
Someone looked at me like I was crazy when I pointed out that I use beef tallow instead of lotion. They said it sounds "disgusting" even though tallow is 100% natural and full of vitamins and minerals that are good for the skin, especially compared to what she was using. Just because what you're using is labeled "skincare" doesn't make it better.
Soap maker/ skincare maker (Sweet Organics) and you are right. Beef tallow is THE only thing besides sunscreen (and in some cases a good retinol) that I have seen not only delays the signs of ageing but makes skin heather. However, people in general are grossed out by it, the name, though 90% of soaps have beef tallow in. We have to practically do backflips when formulating with plant oils as they just do not compare or have the same results as beef. Jojoba oil is close. Sadly, people don’t want natural (and sigh I’m sticking to natural as there is a small market and I’ll continue) but people want augmented, highly fragranced, bright colours, with lots of foam, almost industrial but make skin bouncy. Also due to lack of experience with many oils, allot of people go for buzz words or a high price point. It’s like a loosing battle. Large companies brainwash most into thinking what they sell is superior… eg; fast food chains.
Gotta love how everybody acts like it’s my fault I’m miserable when in reality I’m miserable because I’m being systematically poisoned every single day through my food, lotion, tap water, and I’m under constant mind control through the media despite me being aware of it, it still works. Life isn’t what you make it, it’s what your makers made it. You have very little control over how you develop as a person. More than likely your childhood will be okay or even good but your adulthood is going to suck badly eventually cause diseases and mental illnesses will get you one day it’s inevitable. Poisons cause illnesses. Case closed.
Take responsibility for yourself. Yes the world is out to get all of us, but it's still entirely possible to be a healthy, happy person. It just requires work and effort.
Start with exercise and getting at least an hour of sunlight each day. Take vitamin D supplements if you can. Sounds like b.s. but sun and exercise produce hormones which make a huge difference in mental health.
I always had itchy acne prone skin which everyone insisted was due to either not washing enough or living in a dry climate. One day I tried a new activated charcoal soap and the itching intensified but I ignored it. Then my lymph nodes were super swollen. Didn't shower for a week and they went away. Attributed it to that particular soap and stopped using it. Picked up a different charcoal soap and it made my face swell. Fast forward to now where I use small batch handmade soap and sparingly use a shampoo bar once a week. My hairline is regrowing, hair went from straight but frizzy and wild to a soft curl, skin has cleared up and stopped itching. Since I'm not used to the chemicals anymore, when I do use a normal product I usually get some sort of allergic reaction within a day. Similar results for the people I convinced to switch over to natural soaps
Same. I also have an immediate reaction to artificial fragrances (burning in my nose and throat, headache, coughing, sneezing...). It's so bad I can't even stand to go outside when my neighbors are running their dryer because of the heavy fragrances in their laundry.

For exfoliation use brown sugar, ground coffee with some jojoba oil or honey. For moisture just use Jojoba oil when you get out of the shower. You can also use Jojoba oil to remove makeup. I've been using coconut oil for years with no problems but it can clog pores. You could use Shea butter as lotion too. For body wash & shampoo use Dr bronners bar soap + apple cider vinegar rinse. Do a green tea+rosemary rinse once a week for about 30 minutes. You can use mint tea or use mint essential oil to encourage bloodflow to the scalp. Iveheard that green tea can help protect hair against harmful sunrays.
Specific skincare products should only be used when you have a skin condition that needs them! I had severe acne, inflammation, dryness, and many other skin issues when I turned 14 and nothing helped, really nothing! I tried using water only to cleanse, then switched to organic skin care products, and then went to the dermatologist, who prescribed me gels-nothing worked; in fact, it only made it worse. First time I found products that actually work and make my skin more balanced (because obviously my skin isn't by nature) was 6 years ago, when I started using K-Beauty products. My skin has never looked, felt, or been better! I still get some acne, though, even more so around the time of my period, but other than that, I am super happy with the products! So yes, normal skin, without any major issues skin-wise, doesn't need a 7-step skincarte routine and therefore you don't need to waste all your money and time on these products! But these products can be a lifesaver for people like me, that always suffered with skincare issues and got bullied and/or outcast because of that!
SAME!! Snail mucin, centellica/ceramide toner, glactoymycenes and propolis have been GAME CHANGERS!! Ideveloped hormonal adult acne at 31, after having my daughter. I tried EVERHTHING and my skin got worse. I started doing research and being everyrhing down to simple/single/natural ingredients to and saw a huge improvement in just 4 months! K beauty and The Ordinary helped me to get onto the right path.
I've recently been treating my hormone adult acne with a mixture of alcohol free witch hazel, distilled water and tea tree oil plus lavender essential oil. Ive played with the quanities of each over time. It's important to shake it every time as the oils accumulate at the top. It's fixing my acne very well and once you have all the stuff it's very cheap. Much cheaper than the majority of acne products. You can adapt the essential oils to your own skins issues. I started doing it because I like essential oils and quite honestly remember my teen years of putting harsh acne products on my skin and my skin developing a very strange texture. Plus the cost of acne products is insane. Many years ago I trained as a beauty therapist in the uk, I recall one lecture from a person who worked in the cosmetic industry telling us to never ever use chapstick or similar for dry lips, she said they actually make these products to give you the problem you are trying to resolve, in that instance it was something added to a lip moisture product to dry your lips out so you would basically use more of it. The same was at least then, and I don't doubt now too the same for practically any product. Take anti aging products, the result is only guaranteed for the continuous use of the product. If you stopped, you would start to suddenly notice how bad your skin looks so return back to it believing it's the answer, only it's not much short of a lie. Once a wrinkle has formed, it's not something you can just remove, you can apply something that fills the line and plumps the skin to give the illusion of it being better or exfloate the skin so the wrinkle appears less deep. Anyway the industry unfortunately is not really out to help anyone, only to make money by making you believe their product is the answer.
I can attest that reducing your use of Shampoo makes your hair oily for a few weeks, but then it just fixes itself. You can start by reducing your Shampoo usage to once a week, admittedly I still use some Shampoo once a month, but old habits die hard.
lots of bad info too, like the fact that makeup has been around for thousands of years, created by the Egyptians, it wasn't invented in the industrial evolution

Use olive oil on your skin. It does NOT make your skin greasy. Rub it on your palms and pat on your face. Put it on a bit heavier on legs and arms. You won't break out. Your skin will look fabulous. I used to use lots of skincare! Had a whole evening skincare routine that I used every night with 4-6 products. I heard some people let ‘the oils of their own skin’ work in the evenings and they didn’t put anything after washing their face. I wanted to try it out and Omygod! My skin has never looked better. The only thing I do is wash my face with a cleanser that doesn’t contain much ingredients & then I let it be. My face used to be dry and now it always feels supple. Best choice I have ever made for my skin! Less is more !
Funny that when I stopped using shampoo, my hair got way much better. I used anti-dandruff shampoos and had even more dandruff! I stopped using it and the dandruff, itching and hair loss stopped.
I sometimes wonder why I feel shame for switching to washing and moisturizing my face with olive oil only and washing my hair with eggs and vinegar... this video made that answer very clear.

Read the book No More Dirty Looks in 2012/2013. I haven’t used many of those chemicals since. I can either make my products or buy from a few select sellers on Etsy. The only “down” side of this is I’m now sensitive to the chemical smells of things and get nauseous if they’re really strong.
I love the native brand deodrants. I used to use the sticks but now use the spray. I wear black and the sticks left white marks. The sprays do not leave any marks! Love it! No harsh or unatural ingredients. i always used to have sweat stains and sweat with the anti perspiration deodorants, when i got pregnant and switched to all natural ones, the sweating stopped. Also eating clean and healthy and taking chlorophyll drops act like a natural deodorant and you just end up having a natural scent, and can literally go without deodorant because chlorophyll deodorizes you from the inside. But you also have to eat clean and healthy. I have been told by quite a few people, they love my natural scent. but i also have times i smell funny too- for example not eating enough, causes your body to break down protein which releases an ammonia like smell. But also a yeast infection can make your armpits have an ammonia like smell. Very interesting things…

I shudder now to think i used that product unknowingly for that decades. I think they stopped making it 2018. It was advertised in teenage magazines for a clear skin, from spots for teenage adverts to adults for dry skin and also had a moisturising cream in a jar for older drying skins. The cleanser was milky, light and also moisturising. You didn't need anything else. It was a pleasant product to use, but i think it just fell out of favour because it had been going about 80 years.
My ex thought i was crazy and paranoid when I warned him that since we were serious for 3 years we needed to watch what we do in our EARLY 20s (like stop excessively drinking, eating bad fooods, stop staying up late, drinking enough water, I was going off birth control etc) and he broke up with me because he wanted to play bachelor and was like “we are too young to be worried about having children and life when we are older” but that wasn’t my point, my point was for women especially what we do when we are young can seriously impact things like pregnancy and he was too immature to see the big picture. I’m 23, and I can only hope and pray I’ll be okay. I have friends who are older and they already have some complications, it’s not as uncommon as people think and it could be you and you’d never know
In India we have reetha which can be soaked in water overnight and use that water to wash ur hair it doesn't cause foam like the shampoo available in the market but it cleanses ur hair just how ur shampoo does. This is extremely hyperbolic. It's very rare to get any kinda horrific health issue from simply using skincare. For ex men's lowered fertility is linked more to estrogens in water supplies, pollution, and honestly just bad diet. Female cancers are mostly caused by viruses and worsened by the body's own estrogens. The number one cause of obesity is bad diet. Any other causes are statistically insignificant. A majority of westerners are overweight and eat way too much junk food, which is far more likely the biggest cause of majority of the health issues you list here, including hormone disruptions, and as for skin related issues... most often these happen when products are either used incorrectly (ie you didn't follow the plain and simple instructions written in bold letters on the bottle) or the user of the product has an allergy. I've read up on a lot of these horror stories and 99% of the time it's because of improper usage or allergy. That has nothing to do with the safety level of the product. Creams may cure acne, but it will not cure people's stupidity. On rare occasion it's because the victim got a contaminated product sample, which yes is the fault of the brand and/or the seller. But literally zero of the hundreds of cases I've read about were caused by non-contaminated products used properly when there was no allergy. Obviously newborn babies are gonna be a lot more sensitive than adults, they can literally die from consuming honey and plain water. A lot of the scary test results from these chemicals come from having applied 10 or even 100 times the dose compared to what's in actual products, and also only applied to mice, which although helpful for research purposes, is not the exact same as when applied to humans. We are not giant mice. And literally everything will be dangerous in too high quantities. Products that cause micro tears in the skin? Sounds like what an exfoliator is literally supposed to do! Our skin gets micro tears from literally just scratching an itch, or heck, pulling a sweater over your face. It's fine, it'll be healed up again and replaced by new cells by tomorrow. Do you know how extremely thin and fragile the first layer of skin cells is? Of course it's gonna have some abrasions. You get that from living. But since you're phrasing it that way, of course it's gonna sound more dramatic. But if you apply this same logic to anything, literally everything will sound super dangerous. Of course though, we should be careful with what we put on our skin. Avoid things that cause irritation or making you feel ill in any kinda way. Do some research. But acting like soap and moisturizers and sunscreen are the things slowly killing us, when layers of dirt, cracked dry skin that is vulnerable to bacteria, and UV radiation, is 1000 more harmful than parabens and phtalates... is kinda silly. This is where we need to have some perspective. Would you rather take the 0,00001% risk of getting cancer from your sun screen, or the 20% risk of getting cancer from the sun? Numbers are pulled out of my ass, but that's not the point. The point is this entire video is so cherry picked that it's essentially an orchard. No one needs to be this concerned about a bottle of soap.
Yeah i remember watching Catwoman movie i was traumatized while watching it because there was a part in the movie where they used popular beauty product and the product cause more damage that it makes a woman look horrible 😑
Petrolatum is a pretty fine product. It's very good for your skin and you can even eat it. It's not the same thing as motor oil. If you don't refine petroleum and put it in skin and healthcare products, of course it's going to be poisonous. Where is people's common sense anymore?

All of a sudden I think it’s a grand idea to do what a lot of other women were doing called “oil pulling.” Supposedly it works for a lot of people, but I thought it was a good idea to use coconut oil on my skin. Fast forward a month later and I’m struggling with severe cystic acne. Battled with that for months until an esthetician pulled everything out and made me feel almost normal again. But now I have ice pick scars all over my cheeks. I had a perfectly fine face before.
Thank goodness for the free will to be able to make home made natural alternatives!! the only thing I use for moisturizing my face is vitamin E oil and JoJoba
This is one of the reasons I decided to go back onto a carnivore diet and decided to also start my own small homemade carnivore hygiene product business. The products are as safe and all natural as I can make them, they're safe enough that the products could be eaten especially if they're unscented even though I use 100% all natural food grade or at minimum 100% all natural therapeutic grade essential oils. Every product I make starts from the main ingredients being beef tallow and lard.
The thing is not to give up on skincare just because you watched this video. But make an informed decision about the products you buy by reading the ingredients. Ofcourse you can eat healthy always but nowadays even food os contaminated .
The only things I use anymore are lactic acid and castor oil. I am 50 years old and I don't look like it. People do not understand that aging literally comes from within your body, not from without.
Do one on seltzer water. LaCroix literally had roach killer in it, Spindrift probably has 10x the amount of synthetic citric acid to preserve the 'real fruit juice' without refrigeration.
This video contains horrible misinformation. Being skeptical is one thing, but repeatedly attributing illnesses to questionable data is another. Sure, there are credible studies that support some of these claims, but the real issue arises when dosage is considered. As Paracelsus said, "Sola dosis facit venenum" - the dose makes the poison. When considering that trichlorocarbon is found in pharmaceuticals, food, and cosmetics, the amount present is crucial. Most toxicology studies referenced in these contexts increase the dose until an effect is observed, such as symptoms or death. This approach doesn’t reflect real-world scenarios-just as you wouldn’t drink 7 liters of water in 30 minutes or consume 100 grams of salt in one sitting, nor would you stand in a room filled with chlorine until your lungs dissolve. These studies push the dose to extremes to identify effects, but that doesn’t mean these effects are relevant to normal exposure levels. It's similar when discussing how carcinogenic something is. Bacon or red meat may be classified as Group 2A carcinogens (possibly carcinogenic to humans), but that doesn't mean you’ll ever consume enough for cancer to develop (if it's even possible). We should focus on what is scientifically certain: asbestos is harmful, inhaling chlorine is dangerous, and fluoride improves dental health in people with modern diets (though dosage is still an important factor in that discussion). I understand that a lot of this content is created for clicks and views, but that doesn’t justify presenting it as absolute truth. Yes, pharmaceutical companies may exploit people and, to some extent, engineer the illnesses they claim to cure. Yes, large corporations, especially in poorer countries, often ignore safety regulations, causing harm to themselves and others. In our late-stage capitalist society, there is certainly a degree of wrongdoing (ahem, the top 1% own 34% of the world market... ahem). However, we shouldn’t just sow fear without reason; we should promote understanding and knowledge so that others can come to their own conclusions, rather than blindly trusting influencers on their phones. Sorry for the rant, but I hope anyone reading this will seek out actual research papers and read them themselves (Sci-Hub offers them for free-just enter the DOI or title into the search bar). For good science content on RUclips, I recommend Lab Muffin Beauty Science (she uses papers, cross-references, and practices great scientific rigor) for cosmetics and Ann Reardon for food science (though some things may be oversimplified, it's better than nothing). I wish you all a great day and a life of learning. Toodles.
Good luck using common sense in this comment section lol There’s a reason why videos like this go viral on social media sites like Facebook, a misinformation haven, with scare tactics used to spread shite for clicks and engagement.

Just do a dry fap. It's more natural
yep. watching chubbyemu taught me that
@@elias.bouchardpresenting to the emergency room ☝️
Yeah no shit. Basic knowledge
yes and no.... the function of the skin is actually to keep things OUT.

I get it Is expensive, but the products they use are expensive as well and truly organic, and the manufacturing bottles the labeling they gotta pay their employees the equipment to produce all these things have costs the rent and bills of the warehouse all this cost money.
The reason it's expensive is because of the materials used
Its because the adding of the Manuka honey, so expensive.

This is exactly why I don't use products on my skin at all. You can't trust them at all
I wash my face with a gentle cleanser at night, follow that up with differin gel, and a moisturizer.
In the morning, I use water on my face and apply sunscreen.
You wanna know what happened to my skin?
It cleared up completely and all my dark marks completely faded.
There's no reason to be afraid of skincare. The most relevant experts on the safety and efficacy of skincare are toxicologists and biological chemists.
The most relevant experts on the function and health of skin are dermatologists.
Not a YT video from someone with zero background in either of those fields who's misrepresenting data and conflating hazard with risk.
Hope this helps 😊

I stopped using deodorants. There is another natural way that has been working for me, take a clean and wet piece of cloth, fold it and add few drops of lavender and lemon essential oil and wipe your underarms. Easy breezy and I stay fresh all day
@@HedonisticPuritan-mp6xv I don't use deodorant and I don't stink. Body odor has a lot to do with what a person eats too. True but it’s probably with good intentions. Still u can get ur own manuka honey olive oil and beef tallow. The crazy part is I went on Amazon and it’s $50 but there’s a smaller one for $12 from a knockoff vendor.
What do you use instead of shampoo?

So how do we figure out what to wash our hair and bodies with?
No one wants to be dirty and/or smell.
What about antiperspirants?
Toothpaste?
I brush my teeth with diatomaceous earth food grade.
You can make them at home
Use miswak. Twig sticks. They are eco friendly and very good against all kinds of teeth and gum diseases.

How can they know for sure that all of these problems are solely due to skincare products? These people could be doing other unhealthy things as well.
I am in the uk. I am female. For 40yrs i used a cleanser called Anne French deep cleansing milk. Later on many years later they labelled one of the ingredients as formaldehyde.
I have friends who are older and they already have some complications, it’s not as uncommon as people think and it could be you and you’d never know
Bro I just got a skincare add before this video started💀

In India we have reetha which can be soaked in water overnight and use that water to wash ur hair it doesn't cause foam like the shampoo available in the market but it cleanses ur hair just how ur shampoo does.
Plus it's natural and come from tree so it's safe.
I would advise ppl to use hand gloves while applying that reetha soaked water on ur hair cause it also makes ur hair blacl and when applied with bare hands can make ur nails appear black.
No one needs to be this concerned about a bottle of soap.

petrochemical products are not fit for humans and animals...
Petrolatum is a pretty fine product. It's very good for your skin and you can even eat it. It's not the same thing as motor oil. If you don't refine petroleum and put it in skin and healthcare products, of course it's going to be poisonous. Where is people's common sense anymore?

Fantastic documentaries, would love to see more on this topic!
Toodles.
