      nice vid, but...
      1) The suspension will not "collapse" if you remove the strutbar or the top nuts holding the shocks in place.
      2) Why are you doing this to an engine that you're going to pull anyway? I understand this will be aimed at people who are not going to remove their whole engine, but surely this would've been easier with the whole damn thing out of the car, no?
      P.S. those airpump metal tube nuts got f-ed on mine too. Haven't cursed that loud in a while, lemme tell ya.

    I replaced my water pump and thermostat on my RX-8 with racing ones, and you sure removed more than I did to get at them! I left the whole air pump valve in place and just wiggled the thermostat out and got the new one in through a much smaller gap than its size. Since I got lucky and my RX-8 came with an aftermarket racing radiator, it doesn't have a radiator drain plug, at least not that I've found. I just drained the coolant from the block, and unfortunately didn't drain quite enough to prevent it from spilling everywhere and making a mess. Oh well, the driveway is already covered in more car fluids than actual pavement.

  • @yeahnah6468
    @yeahnah6468 3 года назад +1

    Guys honestly don't bother with a low temp thermostat. It doesn't actually help keep you engine cooler while driving on track.
    All it does is lower the idle/normal driving temp, which is pointless for track use and also bad for engine wear.
    The only thing that will keep the car cooler while under heavy load is an upgraded radiator and/or fans.
    Also added a manual switch to the FAN2 relay can really help when your out on the drift track waiting in the queue between runs.
    If your RX8 is overheating when it shouldn't be then replacing your thermostat is a good idea, but go with an OEM part set to the same temp as stock.
    An old thermostat can get partially or fully stuck which will overheat your car. But a lower temp stat won't do anything to stop a car overheating under heavy load, because it will be overheating due to the radiator/fan limitations.

    • @Drivenbymadness
      @Drivenbymadness  6 лет назад +1

    Won't this affect optimum running temperatures?

    • @Dollsofgod
      @Dollsofgod 4 года назад

      It will. For the most part I think this mod isn't worth it but everyone is free to mod their own cars as they please. Engine manufactures do take into account optimum running temperature so the air/fuel mixture can atomize and produce peak power while still keeping the engine cool enough so that all the internal component integrity is maintained. they also run the engines at higher temps to maintain emissions since it results is a more complete burn.

  • @mrawesomelemons
    @mrawesomelemons 6 лет назад +1

    Just wondering, isn't this just making the car warm up slower? How would it benefit cooling in any way?

    • @Drivenbymadness
      @Drivenbymadness  6 лет назад

      if you know that your coolant temps are hitting the opening temp of your current thermostat, and you're experiencing mild overheating, this is where a low temp thermostat comes to use :)
      For a track car this is useful, for an everyday car for the street, it's useless. As you've said, it will take longer to warm up and could increase wear. That's why i've included it in my drift build and not in a DIY.
      I hope to have answered the question :) Cheers!

Where I live, the summers are 40 average... so its pretty hot... so i am just worried and curious too.. please tell me about it... secondly I bought the car from a sick owner.. i did lot of OEM parts installed since it had an accident. Once I changed the plugs I found one for RX7 which was fitted in it.. Now today once I removed the thermostat I was shocked the guy had placed two nuts inside the thermostat on sides so it was open all the time.. and pushed down. • @gwamakaayoub1522
      @gwamakaayoub1522 6 лет назад

      Driven by madness my rx8 is automatic transmission so how can I redline it, I don’t want to speed up because there is no free highways in my area, can I warm up by putting gear to neutral and hand brake then press fuel pedal for at least 15 seconds? Will that clean carbon in engine??

    • @Drivenbymadness
      @Drivenbymadness  6 лет назад +1

      When you accelerate, the rpms go up, untill you hit a certain speed, then the transmission shifts down. When your rpm's are up to 7000 or whatever is the max before the car shifts, keep the same speed, so that the rpm's stay in that area. If it's not possible, then rev it in neutral, or seafoam the car once a year, and you should be good :)

      No problem man 👌 Feel free to disagree, no hard feelings :) But the thermostat also prevents the engine from having a wide heat variances while it is running. This is especially important with the our engine since we have so many different metals involved.
      It is bad to swing from 220F to 180F in 2 minutes , just as it is bad to swing from 180 to 220 in 2 mins also. Much better to stay at 190F!
      Quick warmups are good---but not too quick and not too much load on the engine while doing so.
