    Kanazawa was awesome-it’s like a little Kyoto. The JR Station was great with the shopping (omiyage desserts and food), the architecture, and “water fountain” digital clock. Tottemo oishii (very delicious) seafood at Omicho Market, historical Kanazawa Castle that lights up at night and adjacent parks nearby, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art (amazing “swimming pool” exhibit), onsens near the area, gold-leaf dessert cake and soft cream, old-style Japanese shops, temples, maiko, etc. An all-around memorable time👍🏼

    The next question I'd like to see is where foreigners living in Japan recommend that tourist should see.
    I've made it to Japan twice, and I definitely recommend going to Asuka in Nara prefecture. The historical markers are usually bilingual, but the Exhibition Room of Archaeological Cultural Assets is almost completely in Japanese, so it's best to go with someone who speaks the language. But it's a small but very nice museum.
    If you're interested in poetry, the Complex of Manyo Culture is supposed to be a fabulous museum dedicated to the Manyoshu poetry collection of the late 8th century. i didn't get a chance to see it last trip, so I have to go next time.

    I can't wait for solo travel to open back up, hope to finally make it down to Kyushu. I'd tell anyone that has a free day around the Tokyo area to go to Kofu. Some good wineries, really chill atmosphere, and the Shingen museum and Takeda shrine are nice visits. Take the first train at like 7:00 out of Shinjuku and make a day of it. Coming back at dusk or just after dark lets you ride the train through the mountains for a while, reminds me going from Nagoya to Takayama, and you can kind of forget you're heading back into the biggest city on the planet.

    I've visited almost all of the places recommended in this video and my #1 favourite place was Yakushima (it is pretty difficult to get to since it is far away from other major Japanese tourist spots though). #2 would be Miyajima, on Itsukushima island near (in?) Hiroshima City. I think pretty much any foreigner visiting Japan will be going to Tokyo and Kyoto. I was however, surprised no one said Nara City. I thought that would be a popular spot.

  • @jonm3956

    Hey TAKASHii, great video as always. It’s great hear recommendations on place to see in Japan from folks that live there. Congrats on the sponsorship. I spent a year in Okinawa but that was with the US military, although it was quite beautiful despite. I like the recommendation of Enoshima Island. Yuka-san from ‘with me JAPAN‘ recently did a livestream of a visit there. The shrines are quite nice. There is a ROSCon in Kyoto in October ‘22 in case any Robotics enthusiasts are watching this. Something I’d like to do on my next visit to Japan is to go around Shibuya, Chiba, Yokohama, and even Nagoya to watch the street performers. I think this would make a cool video of you interviewing what it’s like being a street performer in Japan. I’d recommend Ni-na as one to interview if you are taking requests. Thanks for sharing this.

    • @jefffromchicago6321
      @jefffromchicago6321 2 года назад

      I know Ni-Na! The best street performer that Japan Explorer discovered. She's going places. She has almost all foreign subs. She'll do a live stream while she plays on the street. Japanese will give her money and at the same time foreigners are super chatting her money. Then the police make her move and a half hour later she's somewhere else. I gave to her crowd funding for a CD.
      Interviewing street performer's is a good idea. I see some in Shinjuku across from the Weathering With You Mcdonald's. I'll give them money and the police will tell them to move. I always wonder their goals. And of course I can't ask them. I notice that just like the professionals, the amateurs are better musicians than the American counterparts.

    I'm not Japanese but I've lived in Japan and travelled around enough to have an opinion, I think, lol. I personally love the Seto inland sea area. A lot of foreigners head to Hiroshima anyway, so while you are in the area, you will not regret sticking around and discovering other places close by. Shout out to Onomichi!
    As for Okinawa, I used to live there and truly, the vibe is very different from the mainland. I loved my life there and I can imagine going back for a retirement haha. I also lived in Kyoto, which is a gem but there is no need to tell tourists to go there, they know:,). But while Kyoto the city is probably the most popular tourist spot in Japan, Kyoto the prefecture is very underrated!

      @@missplainjane3905 I'm not a "sir":) But I've been to over 30 prefectures...unfortunately, didn't make it to Northern Japan quite yet.

    Takashii, I am not sure if you've been, but next time near okinawwa take a flight to ishigaki and go around all the islands there. It's really great The culture there is really different from anything I've seen in Japan and it is almost like a foreign country.

    Hello! I enjoy your videos so much! I like this question, I'd love to visit Japan one day, and this is a great guide! But I'd like to know - my parents are old, and can't walk or hike for too long anymore. What places in Japan are good for tourists to visit, which are friendly to older people? Thank you! 💛
