Price has been such a MASSIVE shift over the last 20-30 years. Back in the 90s to 00s Japan was considered one of the MOST expensive places to live or travel. Now, its almost considered a bargain destination (which is one of the reasons Japan is having such a massive tourist influx).
Honestly, whilst the answer was quite surprising, the reasoning was weirdly not for myself. By which I mean I found that as he was explaining why the answer was Cherry Blossoms, I more or less was immediately agreeing with it.
I remember watching Takashi when he was beginning with just a few subscribers. It is gratifying that he has gained such a wide audience now. I also remember your channel when you only had a few hundred subscribers and now grown into several youtube channels. RUclips has been an amazing way for Japanese to reach out to more people around to world. As for questions for Takashi, I have always wondered why he chose to interview people as a format for his channel. Most of the other channels seem to focus on topics instead of interviews.
I deeply appreciate listening to a respectful, thoughtful discussion between 2 of my favourite Japanese RUclipsrs. Mutual respect for each others work. Great questions from Shogo, thorough and honest answers from Takashi. Very satisfying! I remember the interviews Takashi did with the hibakusha from Hiroshima. Very powerful, very high impact interviewing. Interested to hear his feelings about that experience as the interviewer. Great work gentlemen!! どもありがとうございました。尊敬します。🙇🏻♀️
What a great interview! Thanks so much for sharing! I agree with Takashii-san about the cherry blossoms. We have both ornamental cherry trees and regular cherry trees here in the states, and it always brightens my day to see them in bloom after a long winter. We get harsh winters where I'm at, so seeing all the trees and flowers in bloom is a wonderful way to chase away the winter gloomyness. Winter isn't always gloomy, but even so, seeing all the cheerful colors in the spring is therapeutic. On another note, I'd love to learn more about the katana but I don't know if I have the budget for classes right now.
Yes to the language learning if you’re coming to Japan to live. Language learning is more than just communication it’s about connecting and understanding how Japanese people think and about culture .
This was really interesting, to hear the small differences in how those who went to school in Hiroshima learn about the a-bomb compared to those from other parts of Japan, and to hear how that informed the way Takashii and Shogo present this information to their global audiences. As Takashii discussed the interview with the survivor, I was really looking forward to hear what Shogo was thinking. Great conversation.
I am delighted to see this! I saw Takashii's uploads interviewing people in Kyoto and thought oh, he should see Shogo. And apparently you thought so also 💜 I saw Takashii also on Jessica Kobeissi's channel 💙
Awesome video as always Shogo. I always look forward to your videos about all the different and interesting things about Japanese culture. Keep up the great work.
I laughed when Takashii called the cherry blossoms overrated. My Canadian city is twinned with a Japanese city and a lot of cherry trees were planted here at the time. We have hundreds of them. My sister-in-law has three in her backyard. I really want to visit Japan some day but cherry blossoms are at the bottom of the list. 😊 Great collaboration Shogo!
We were recently in Japan and I instantly fell in love with the people and culture. We felt extremely safe and we were impressed with how polite and respectful people in society there were. I would love to live there for a while to really soak up the culture and see the country properly.
I totally get Takashi regarding the cherry blossoms. There's a big'ol sweet cherry tree growing right in front of my office window. And for about a week or so in a year it's in blossom. I've been watching that tree everyday in its changes through the seasons for years now. And I appreciate this particular tree blossoming way more than all the imported sakura trees planted in the local park.
I'm glad to hear more and more Japanese people try to explore the world. I live in Sweden,I said here in the past I visited Japan in 2012,would love it to visit again if I get a chance. But between 2014-2016 we had many japanese students here in my small town. They where in love in our nature and sea. I live in a coastal small town. I myself love to travel in general was in Ireland last year, lovely and friendly people, same with the japanese(atleast those I met). I think one get learn more about others and oneself if one get the chance to travel, meet the people learn of the country, modern side and historical side. Enjoy and experience culture, say like food culture. One of the things people bond over is food to name a few things.
This was a very informative interview that helped me understand more about Japan! My biggest worry has been accidentally showing disrespect to a Japanese person if I travel there, but watching this has made me feel better about that. Watching the part about Hiroshima always brings tears to my eyes. I hope all of the people who went through that in Hiroshima and Nagasaki are at peace now.
love these guys - on this topic - my Japanese exchange student has goten the chance to see america from a smaller farm town in the midwest. I think some folks forget just how big the US truly is, and that there are many places where safety isnt even an issue -
You are my two fav bloggers in Japan! Both of you have fantastic and culturally important videos. I especially loved the interview with the woman who survived the bombing of Hiroshima. ❤❤
I think it's very important that Americans learn the truth about why we chose to develop and use atomic weapons, the actual effects they had on Japan, and the truth of everything that transpired between the US and Japan from 1853 to 1941 that led to the conflict. In the US, we are taught during our educational years virtually nothing of substance that would implicate the US, if we are taught anything at all.
This was a great interview with Takashii. I enjoyed his response on how to truly admire the annual blossom of the Sakura Tree. If I was to ask Takashii a question it would be if he could recommend one way to enjoy Japan, what activity would it be? Thank you Shogo for the video.
What Takashii said about cherry blossoms struck a chord with me. Regarding hanami from that perspective, it can be transferred to human lives as well. Practice every day, just so that in one fleeting moment, you can put all that training to use. It gave me a new source of motivation for my karate practice.
A very interesting video, thank you! Takashi's just gained a new subscriber. :) Side note: I **would** say that there are wars/conflicts where one side is bad. I don't mean WWII here, of course.
Really like crossovers like this and collaborations! 😀 On a side note, the link to Takashii's channel in the description is broken, there need to be a space missing between it and the star emoji behind it.
Great interview! The cherry blossoms are beautiful, but along with the fleeting nature of beauty, the spectacle, the amounts of the trees and the immaculate care and curation of them into entire covered walkways is unique to Japan. But I like Takashii's answer to that.
The Hiroshima interview was informative and emotional. I agree, Takashii should do more historical interviews, maybe around geological events, tsunamis, etc. Wonderful interview gents. 👍❤

Best crossover in history? Probably!
The Hiroshima interview was informative and emotional. I agree, Takashii should do more historical interviews, maybe around geological events, tsunamis, etc. Wonderful interview gents. 👍❤
True, a lot of the high-tech inventions are not really for ordinary life, but a big exception is the shinkansen trains!
What kind of high tech invention for daily use
Shogo you are awesome!
what a great crossover!
I’m going to Japan in 3 months and had no idea that Uber is not available there. Thanks for that last info.
As a foreigner who saw the Cherry Blossoms out of season I agree completely with Takashii
Well I’m glad I’m going to Japan in October 🥰
I wanna meet Takashii irl too now
I agree with everything!
THE TWO GOATS
18:50 I think what Takashii want to say is: "Beauty is within the progression not just the result"
Matcha Samurai and Shogo next omg 😆 that would be a comedy more than serious tho 😂
Great video , love to see quality creators collaborating 🎉🎉🎉

Takashii is like a feature artist 😅
Hi Takashii and Shogo, I'm looking at you from Italy!
That was great answer about the cherry blossoms.
A nice collab, guys...
I remember being able to walk alone through Kyoto late at night, and I've never felt safer❤
Thank you Mr. Yamaguchi! Love your videos. Learning a lot. Just curious, how do you write your name in Japanese.

I do like the transformation of the trees and seeing that whole process, i can't do that in japan because i can't stay that long.

We were very normally dressed tourists and were trying to communicate our need calmly and non threateningly, but to no avail. It was a shocking feeling, we felt like we were nothing to them. We were finally helped by two young girls who were buying tickets. We gave them the money, pointed to the station we wanted to go to and 30 seconds later we were all set. We thanked and bowed profusely like idiots we were so relieved.
We couldn't see Tokyo with the same eyes after that. We weren't traumatized or anything, but our naive love for the place was shattered. We'll probably visit again some day because it was mostly very fun.
