Ian is one of the coolest guys ever. I've met him 3 times and he was the most gracious and down to earth guys ever. I have nothing but respect and love for my favorite drummer of all time.
me too... meeting Ian tomorrow at L&M victoria...first heard HUSH on my transistor in '68...best rock drummer ever...no kidding? I hear his style copied every where in metal today, good night...
listening to ian speak impresses me as much as his drumming...I like the fact that he is sensitive to the people who pay to come and listen to him do his thing...that is a good attitude to have and I wish I could be like that...
Even more than Ians "chops", of which he has in spades, the first thing that got me interested in his playing was the ride cymbal pattern in "Lazy"....that pattern is even, smooth, and relentless. Of all the parts Ive tried to copy of Paice's, maintaining that swing pattern is among the most difficult for me to hone. The true measure of a man that is more than a drummer but also an insightful, instinctual musician, its why hes my hero, that and pretty much everthing on IN ROCK.
@DCHurlford1 2003, I think. We saw him in Birmingham that year, and this would be from the same era. Great guy, and (of course) the best rock drummer ever.
I think many of the Deep Purple alumni must have found the Fountain of Youth, especially Roger Glover who hasn't changed one whisker since the mid 70's. Paice too it seems, except for the gray hair.
There have been and continue to be many, many great drummers in Rock but my 2 favoprites are Ringo #2 and Ringo on steroids IAN PAICE #1! He has the essence of the great swing band drummers [Buddy Rich, Lou Bellson, Max Roach] and yet can rock out with Bonzo, Niel Peart, Appice etc. When I was in high school I played the drums to the entire Made In Japan album at least 3 times in a row everyday. I got top be a pretty good drummer from that. LOVE DEEP PURPLE!
@IlRezzonico Paice has always been the best looking(mostly because he is drumming and that keeps you in shape more than playing a Hammond), in 1993 he looked pretty much the same as in 1984 (well thats just by looking at the videos) He was the last one to really age (at least in looks), but then again he is the second youngest person in the band (not counting Morse), and the difference between Airey and him is only 8 days.
(Didn't see this till now,) ... Marcel... (great channel BTW) ...I am now an even bigger fan of Purple and Ians drumming - I took binoculars and watched him burn throughout the show- someone has posted some video of it...search for it as deep purple in victoria...
He makes a good point about how machines come and go, but there will always be people performing the music. A good example, I think, is the player piano, which is largely left to the dustbin of history.
Ian Paice seems to be a cool person, and a hell of a drummer. Just reading the silly comments on Utube, makes me avoid music store and only buy items from internet websites. This is because musicians are normally idiots... One day, I sent my wife into a popular music store to pick up an item I needed for my drum set. Afterwards, she came out and stated how dysfunctional, and rude, the musicians in this store were. If you think I'm joking, read some of the comments stated on Utube...
Ian Paice, Cozy Powell, Bill Ward, Phil Rudd, Vinny Appice, Sib Hashian, John Bonham, Charlie Watts, Nick Mason, Keith Moon, Larry Mullen Jr., Stewart Copeland, Nicko McBrain, Jeff Porcaro, Lars Ulrich, Phil Ehart, Taylor Hawkins, Paul Cook, Tony Kenning. Who do you think is the best?
Did youtube change some codecs used or some other nonsense because for a long while some videos are barely heard. This one is right on that low side boundry.
You need to check out some of Steve Gadds work, listen the Asia album by Steely Dan to get an idea of his style. Its not a matter of who better its about individual styles I guess is the point I'm trying to make. You can't compare Neal Peart to John Bohnam both are great or Stewart Copeland even all different styles. .
@dmcpedroza mmm now I love them both! but I once had the luck to speak to Paice and HE told me that his favourite rock drummer of all times was Bonham... So I don't think Paice thinks Bonham is sloppy at all... Now every one can have there personal favourite but about 99% of drummers agree with Paicey too... Bohnam just took rock drumming to another level in the 70's everyone was trying to have his sound. cheers :)
Paice was, is and will be the best, jazziest rock'n roll drummer ever! Period!!!!!
i can never get sick of Ian talking.. his talkin is just like his drumming very clean and articulate
Ян - супер ударник кап труда !!!🤘👍
Ian is one of the coolest guys ever. I've met him 3 times and he was the most gracious and down to earth guys ever. I have nothing but respect and love for my favorite drummer of all time.
Thank you Mr. Paice. I'm honored to call you rock's greatest drummer of all time. What an AMAZING body of work.
I had always heard Ian was a very nice guy, got to meet him in 2003 and he was nicer than I could even imagine.
What a fabulous man!
Ian is the consummate musician. . . everything.....appearance, chops, attitude, etc...
me too... meeting Ian tomorrow at L&M victoria...first heard HUSH on my transistor in '68...best rock drummer ever...no kidding? I hear his style copied every where in metal today, good night...

In my opinion Ian Paice is the best rock drummer on this planet
Ian's studio version of Living Wreck....still one of my favourites from the master..
Agreed. That tight metallic snare from his Ludwig 400 at the time before he changed to the 402 in 1971. I love it all!
A legend who could drum for what is probably one of the greatest heavy metal bands ever. The drumming on perfect strangers is sublime.
my favourite rock drummer
My favourite drummer.
Favorite drummer ...period
What a champion bloke.and he can plays the drums a bit too! :)
A dreamers drummer...Mr.Ian Paice
Yep, I couldn't agree more. Mick was hugely underrated, and was way ahead of his game.
What ever kid that got an hour and a half to talk with Ian is lucky indeed. So much knowledge.
What a guy...what a drummer!
Not only one of rock's most awesome drummer ever but also a pretty convincing Elton John look-alike as well!
Ian Paice is the best rock drummer ever!

Ian looks super, slim, rockin..great to see!
One of the greats.
My favorite left-handed drummer!!
@DCHurlford1 2003, I think. We saw him in Birmingham that year, and this would be from the same era. Great guy, and (of course) the best rock drummer ever.
@DCHurlford1 That's how we found him as well. Really polite, and happy to talk about Purple and his other bands, and with a lot of good humour.
I think many of the Deep Purple alumni must have found the Fountain of Youth, especially Roger Glover who hasn't changed one whisker since the mid 70's. Paice too it seems, except for the gray hair.
...oh yeah... I got to meet Ian and won a Pro-mark cap - he's the best rock drummer ever!

Paice is so cool
The drum legend
love "crispy" Paicey... xD
In terms of "Feel" no one else comes close to Ian.
He makes a good point about how machines come and go, but there will always be people performing the music. A good example, I think, is the player piano, which is largely left to the dustbin of history.

he is the BEST along with Cozy Powell
cool guy !!....Ian get's it !!!!!
Ian Paice, Cozy Powell, Bill Ward, Phil Rudd, Vinny Appice, Sib Hashian, John Bonham, Charlie Watts, Nick Mason, Keith Moon, Larry Mullen Jr., Stewart Copeland, Nicko McBrain, Jeff Porcaro, Lars Ulrich, Phil Ehart, Taylor Hawkins, Paul Cook, Tony Kenning. Who do you think is the best?

Mick Tucker from The Sweet would have give Ian a good run for his money.
@DCHurlford1 Only met him very briefly - he answered a question I asked. Yes, I have the Highway Star DVD, and it's hilarious!
@dmcpedroza mmm now I love them both! but I once had the luck to speak to Paice and HE told me that his favourite rock drummer of all times was Bonham... He looks like Elton John
