One of the songs I really love his drumming is Child in Time. When Blackmore's guitar solo starts his drumming is totally out of the world. I agree, Paice was one of the best rock drummers.
I had the privilege to watch this man perform live at a Deep Purple concert in 2013 and up close. One of if not the most talented heavy/hard rock drummer of all time, the technique, speed and feel he displays is truly mind-blowing! Deep Purple was a band that truly consisted of world class musicians in their respective fields, a super band by any standard.
I remember hearing Ian play on vinyl and just thinking how the hell does he do this? He has always stood out amongst his peers, his jazz/rock style has always fused so well with a variety of music styles so adaptable I remember meeting him in 1982 at a 'kitchen' in Newcastle and he took the time to sign stuff and was so humble and genuine ....just sublime
Jon Blackers I have no idea why. I stopped listening to this interview at 4:07. I just could not take the background music in my effort of trying to hear Ian’s answers.
I had the great pleasure of meeting Ian Paice at his house while on holiday last week. What a true Gentleman he is. One of the best drummers in the world.
The only one of them who has been through every rendition of Purple. Saw him from the front row last year and he still has it. Love how he's so appreciative of everything he has unlike a fair portion of music biz people who demand more. He's also helped produce a few albums and was part of giving Elf and Dio help along with Roger. Much respect and well earned.
I really enjoyed this interview. I felt like I got some insight into Ian and his drumming. Ian,Deep Purple and their music has had a continuing and lasting influence in my life.
a true legend that I've been so lucky to meet personally for one whole day back in 2004 and that confirms in this conversation his vision about becoming a decent drummer by picking something from other different drummers supposed to be better than you and not only that.
I will probably catch hell for saying this (I did once before), but among all those great 70's rock/prog rock drummers - Bonzo, Palmer, Bruford, Moon, etc. - I still say Ian had the best technique. You can get a sense of it by how smooth his rolls were/are.
no doubt about it..how many kids picked up drum sticks? Ian developed a technique that was signature...brilliant...he came from an era where growing up there was NO rock n roll, and no heavy rock...he was a pioneer...we will never hear drummers play like this anymore because these cats grew up listening to big band music, jazz, R&B and their feel was influenced transitioning to rock
Love all the drummers you mentioned (as a drummer) who grew up trying to play these guys as a teen. "Higway Star" still kills me for the speed and energy of those f'ing drums!
I think the music was put on by the video uploader. My reasons for thinking are, you can see when the video has been edited slightly, but the annoying music does not change, therefore it was added afterwards. Also, I think even a patient well mannered man like Ian Paice would have said something if the music was playing during the interview.
Ian still stands with rich I don't care how much the band feels this is the drummer he has. Played with since 1967 so yes I believe they will play again
@Mudge07 Thanks for watching the video. Sad to say I've already applied some post production background noise remover stuff. Defenitely an honour to meet this Giant.
Ian giving simple, friendly tips to what others can unwittingly make complex. A true master of his craft, and still developing his own expertise decades into a world-class career. Jan-Kris, in a world with noise-cancelling headphones, can you apply some post production to remove/reduce the intrusive level of the music in the earlier part of the interview.? Glad you had the chance to spend some time getting a thoroughly rivetting chat, thanks.
The only drawback to this interview is that the music in the background is drowning out the interview, unless there was a very good reason for them not to able to control the music volume, I could understand that, but it is way too loud and most of all annoying.
Whoa, good eyes! Since the cup stayed there throughout the interview they added that? But why at the point? Bot from the beginning? Strange. At 12:34 it begins to fade away...
Yes the background music was very annoying but I truly believe Ian Paice is one of the greatest drummers I've ever heard He's so smooth with his rolls just makes it look effortless That's true born in talent
Try to understand and translate. I can do it, so do you. If you care. kääntäjä.org helps
Ian has plenty of interesting & life affirming things to say. Why have you ruined it with that background music. You’ve taken something positive & negated it.
BEAUTIFUL interview. Not only is he IAN PACE, Drum LORD, but also a wise, humble and sensitive man.
Vielen Dank aus Venezuela!
Why does Bonham get all this cred.way after he Passed.Yet The great IAN PAICE..is still killin it at his age...he is THE MULE... Of the drums
At least in the Deep Purple genre :) Paice is realistic an a real good swinging drummer - one of the best!
@@JunkerOnDrums 😊
He's a polite British Gentleman.
...and one of the best drummers in history of Rock, of course.
An ace drummer and a legend.
And a sincerely nice man. Very down to earth, and a good dude!
One of the songs I really love his drumming is Child in Time. When Blackmore's guitar solo starts his drumming is totally out of the world. I agree, Paice was one of the best rock drummers.
One of the best rock drummers of all time!!!
The best

Love you Jan paice da italia 🇮🇹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
why that annoying background music?

Paicey is a class guy 100% ..not to mention one of my top 2 favorite drummers of all time
I really enjoyed this interview. I felt like I got some insight into Ian and his drumming. Ian,Deep Purple and their music has had a continuing and lasting influence in my life.

In my opinion Ian is the greatest rock drummer in history. He seems like a nice man too.
Like stated by many others. Top notch Gentle man !
He is truly The God of rock'n'roll drumming. No one compares to him.
Great drummer way underrated and always seems like a good guy in interviews.
Thanks for the great drumming Ian!!!!

Agree
Love all the drummers you mentioned (as a drummer) who grew up trying to play these guys as a teen. "Higway Star" still kills me for the speed and energy of those f'ing drums!
Moon was the worst of the bunch you named and paice second worse. Solely technique wise anyway
Really wanted to hear this interview but the noise in the background made me bail half way through. Rock on Ian Paice we love you!!
Beautiful Ian!
Was the interviewer not aware of the music in the background ? . Great interview all the same. Paice is one of the true greats.
I think the music was put on by the video uploader.

They're in a cafe
not a real reason to kindly ask to switch off the music during an interview.
I think he’s in Paiste Turf and accommodations, thus the coffee cup. A true class act.
It's uploaders music. Had to stop watching cause a could not hear what Ian is saying
Brilliant drummer and an inspiration.
How fucking disrespectful of not shutting off that music while you're interviewing a Rock n roll Hall of fame Drummer, Ian Paice.
He appreciates his success. a rare quality. thanks for the music old friend.
Ian still stands with rich I don't care how much the band feels this is the drummer he has. Played with since 1967 so yes I believe they will play again
I was very fortunate that I seen Deep Purple live and they were fantastic!
@Mudge07 Thanks for watching the video. Sad to say I've already applied some post production background noise remover stuff. Defenitely an honour to meet this Giant.
Such a humble classy drummer his energy speed precision rhythm maintaining the beat at a high speed is unbeatable
how can he still hear...seriously? HOW? He is amazing...chops and feel way ahead of his time
Yeah, what's up with the loud music in the background. Yo, heard 'a headphones? We got an interview in progress.
when you make interviews, pls think of the sound!
Hey Johan, I only did the editing of the footage. We're sorry the sound isn't too good. Luckily the contents is great !
How can anyone dislike this guy?
Drums on "Highway Star" still floor me at 57!
Ian giving simple, friendly tips to what others can unwittingly make complex. A true master of his craft, and still developing his own expertise decades into a world-class career. one of the greatest Rock drummer ever !!!! (definitely in my top 5)
Great guy!! Need a like more like him for sure
Truly a legend from teenager era !
Annoying background music!🤨
He sounds like Blackmore.
Maybe Blackmore sounds like Ian 🥳
Paicey Bonzo and Neil Peart best drummers of all time...oh i forgot Buddy Rich ..inspiration for all
The only drawback to this interview is that the music in the background is drowning out the interview, unless there was a very good reason for them not to able to control the music volume, I could understand that, but it is way too loud and most of all annoying.
imho one of the best drummer Buddy Rich and Ian Paice both have this incredible sense power speed sound and most important feel
his performance on "lay down, stay down" [Burn] always blows me away. supurb drummer.
Happy Birthday Mr.Paice!
At about 9:57 the Paiste logo suddenly appears on his cup of soup/Chowder.
Whoa, good eyes! Since the cup stayed there throughout the interview they added that? But why at the point? Bot from the beginning? Strange. At 12:34 it begins to fade away...
Great player.
The best rock drummer in the world!
Good interview with extremely annoying background music. Takes away from the interview.
Last night, Mr. Paice gave his best!
what is that music in the background doing there? to create ambient or to annoy?
This must have been a matter of days after he got out of hospital from the stroke
Class player, class person!
True !
blessings to the person at 7:53, it was about time
True !
Could someone have turned-off the BS music in the background?
Yes the background music was very annoying but I truly believe Ian Paice is one of the greatest drummers I've ever heard He's so smooth with his rolls just makes it look effortless That's true born in talent
The creator of Paiste came from Estonia, my country :)
nice..
9:54
12:30
Look at his cup. Don't blink.
For the love of God… Whose idea was the background music?🙉
This guy. is the boss..
Nottinghams finest drummer!
Where took this interview place?
Ian is like when Richie comes back then fine cause he doesn't let drama stand in the way of his bro band
The boss!
What the fuck is up with background music, man?
shame about the hideous background music, I could barely listen. An interesting interview spoilt.
Very exceptional guy, usually hard rock/heavy mel drummers does not last so long.
Dude... Seriously, PAISTE COFFEE?!? HAhahahahahahahaha
Guimadrum its a cup from his sponsor!
When I was started I stole a lot of your licks Ian, thanks
Very rude to have music playing while Ian is speaking.
Please.... just Ian Paice.... , no need to mention Drummer of Deep Purple .... most people know.
Hey Xerxes 450, too bad the youngsters don't always know his name, hence the name (and also for other people not knowing this legend ;-) ).
yeah, you're absolutely right , yet it is known in the rock world as one of the greatest drummer for the greatest band...such a shame
that background music shits me off
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?
Paice
Man!!!...that background shit!!!
Ian has plenty of interesting & life affirming things to say. Why have you ruined it with that background music. You’ve taken something positive & negated it.
Ian told me after the interview that the background noise shouldn't be an issue for people with a positive attitude.
Why don't you finally ask me man and u will see my answer......
Music should be out, is disturbing
Guitar.. different sonds
I hate this video. Turn off the music for the interview. Duh
i mist alot cuz of that anoying. music drownding out Ian! !!!
unlistenable with all that noise
