  • The shoe is on the other foot! We challenged a group of synchronized divers to try to keep up with skilled cheerleaders. Olivia, Monique, and Joey train to complete three acrobatic cheer challenges and put them together into one synchronized routine. Will Olivia adjust to wearing shoes while performing? Can Joey get used to landing on his hands? Does Monique have the balance to be hoisted into the air by her diving partners? These amazing athletes work together to prove they can adapt to new techniques and try to keep up with their talented cheerleading coaches.

So great to watch - loved it!

It’s is called dry land and we use trampolines or what we call “dry-boards” They are just diving boards but you land in a pit! In that way it’s very different because on the ground there is a lot less bounce

    • @agent606

It’s a lot different. Especially tumbling on a floor with shoes. Not feeling the floor can make suck a difference. Oh my gosh! They did incredible! I was a gymnast for over 10 years, and to see them pick up on this within a day was amazing. Not to make gymnastics or cheerleading sound easy (obviously these people have trained during their lives for similar things), but amazing 👏🏼

The first round of teaching was really good, if you ever had experience with any of these moves before.
Rather than teach 2 moves at once, I would've broken it down to each individual move, nail them, THEN put them together.
Much like the last teacher did. I could definitely tell he had lots of teaching experience.

Could have broken it down into counts to help it out when they were first learning jumps. Also using arm motions before jumping is something that teaches timing.

I hate how cheerleaders end every tumble with the hands down at their sides. It’s so aesthetically unpleasing.

      Long reply warning:
      As a cheerleader-
I liked landing with my hands by my sides rather than in the air. It makes everything look so much sharper and cleaner. And when you land, hands by your side, standing tall and smiling at the crowd, it’s an amazing feeling :)
Also I used to do gymnastics and we would land with our arms in the air and it was SO much harder. Having them by your side is easier and cleaner in my opinion.
Also in competition claps and “cleans” (arms by your side) can help show if your team is doing things on the right timing (because if you hear claps at different times, they’re off count or doing it wrong)
Also when you start and end stunts you clean and clap, in most of the cheers you clean and clap, and in jumps you clean and clap. So cleaning and clapping for everything makes it easier to remember

It’s better for timing and synchronization.

M K Laurie Hernandez did that on beam. She always pulled her arms down.

Coach chow trains his gymnasts on beam to put their hands straight up and then dropping them down. You can tell chows gymnasts, like Shawn Johnson and gabby Douglas.
Also cheer leaders don’t get as much air and their half twisting tucks are just really sloppy looking to be honest. But they also tumble with shoes and don’t feel the floor so I see why they tumble so different.
