- Hezzikia 'Seldom Seen' Jackson (Floyd 'Wildcat' Chatman) giving his famous sermon to Martel 'Too Sweet' Gordone (Leon Isaac Kennedy)on institutionalization after Too Sweet gets excited about the prison warden granting conjugal visits to inmates who do well in an upcoming boxing tournament.
This was the most memorable scene in the whole movie.

It has also helped me.....along with the help of beloved family members.....to keep my head up in life and whenever I face negativity.

He was ahead of his time as far as the statements he was making though film. Way ahead. Penitentiary was a classic! It was funny yet unfunny. Interesting film. We root for Too Sweet to make it. He's a good guy that got screwed over and sent to Hell basically. If only some real money could have been put behind this project. They say that the cell fight between Leon and Badja took 3 days to film. No stunt doubles! Amazing work! The fight looked real! He had to fight for his ass! Literally! Imagine being stuck in that little cell with some huge crazy fool hellbent on trying to rape you. You'd better fight as hard as you can!!! Scary thought that a lot of people had to go through I'm sure

If there ain't gonna be a Penitentiary 4; than this movie could be doing a remake[just like all the other classics] nowadays. And I probably know whose the right actors that could play those roles in it.

Y'all get that powerful scene? Floyd "Wildcat" Chatman spittin wisdom. I don't know what happened to him. There's something that says he was born on May 30th 1938 ( same day I was born) and passed in Nov 2008. Not sure how reliable the info is. That would make him at least 105 if he was still with us. The character was 65. I don't what Mr. Chatmans true age was when he filmed that incredibly powerful performance. That scene merits some sort of award in my book!

He's institutionalized, old and doesn't want to get his hopes up on anything outside of prison life. He doesn't even want dabble in anything close to freedom.

I used to go to movies without knowing how good, or bad they were. So when I would make a mistake and pay money to see one and it stunk, my punishment was seeing the whole movie rather than leaving. The Choirboys was the film that started that policy. It really stunk. It was truly awful. The next movie to fall under that policy was Penitentiary. Terrible movie, dreadful. The third movie to fall under that dreaded protocol was something called _Those Lips, Those Eyes_ . A horrendous piece of garbage, but I sat through all of it, damn it.
