Looking good Johnny how is the new member of the family getting on .my grandson is 1 this Saturday so might not be around if you’re on at 10.30 but will catch up later 👍🏻
Ay up Jon. Nice work buddy. Shoulda put a picture frame round it and calculated width so no little cuts needed, doesn't look right that. But maybe you had reason, cheers bud
Are those slabs you recently laid in the background while you're using the whacker? Might be a stupid question, but can the whacker effect the already laid slabs? Fantastic content by the way, and I mean all your videos... Thanks 👍🏼
Great work Johnny - just one question, the edging stones look a little high - was this due to the higher bank to the side.... cheers big man - pea's and love.
Hi Johnny. You’ve used stone dust here whereas most use sharp sand. What’s the reasoning? I’ve had grano dust (1-6mm) for my fake lawn. Looks awfully similar in appearance and the way it moves on the shovel, bar being grey instead of red. I have 55m of block paving patio to do myself and I’m just watching videos to refresh the mind on levels and screeding before I get to it.
Hi Franny mate its just availability to be honest we dont have the sharp sand like they used to have years ago because they stopped dredging, and the stone dust does work well.
Mortar bed stringer course to plastic flexi channels and flag area at finish level….30 mm of screed not 50mm and allow 5 mm or so for compaction. For .50mm blocks you wanna screed at around 42to 45 mm. And dont notch out timbers. Srew 2 lathes or similar to either side of sreed timber…easy to adjust if needbe.l..screed tubes not box section…you can bend to suite if screeding undulating brows or dips….easy to straighten later aswell. Finally get a decent forward reverse diesel wacker. Plate wackers just vibrate surface.. you should be able to prsss those keykerbs ito some decent bedding mix. And you should have a keb race already in before finishing stoning up to put your kerb bedding gear on.. stringer course to drive threshold so cuts arent on outer extent of drive…. I only use 60 mm blocks for drives 50mm are only good for pedestrian applications
If you vibrate the ground too much you risk bringing any water in the ground to the top even after a few dry days always keep that in mind, avoid vibrating any wet spots and remove them if possible.
Why do you measure the screed rail in 5 different places? your string line is straight, and the metal rail is straight, so you only need to measure at each end of the metal rail? if you start making adjustments in the middle, you'll throw out the first end you set up
It depends on the steel and the the length of the steel as it can flex in the middle, its abasaloutly reasonable to check for this reason, if you feel you dont need to thats fine. Thanks for your feedback.
@@GreentopLandscapes I'm glad you got the joke! The truth is you do fine work and I do understand that most Commonwealth Nations drive on the left side of the road. Good luck to you and yours! Now do you think you can give me one of those cute little hearts?

I see your point but a picture frame would of made it looked narrow
Would of looked way too narrow with a picture frame on drive fella. Keeps the area clean looking this way.
Absaloutly far to narrow and unnecessary
Nice work chap..lazer level? . I wouldn't be without one
Great point

Hi JJ thank you, no the paving should be ok
@@GreentopLandscapes thanks very much for getting back to me. Great, I'll crack on then 😉
We are going to block pave our driveway in readiness for a 4 tonne motor home, would it be better to use a lean mix concrete as a sub base?
Yes mate for sure
never realised there was so much severe prep work that went into a driveway
Neat job Johnny. Another clear, and comprehensively explained video. 👌
Thanks! 👍
Lovely job this...just curious did the blocks drop the 5mm? What happens if they don't? Obviously an educated guess? Regards Nat
Hi Nat thank you mate and yes they did
Superb work, great to see someone take real pride in their work and aspiring to be a good as possible.
Thank you very much!
Great work Johnny - just one question, the edging stones look a little high - was this due to the higher bank to the side.... cheers big man - pea's and love.
Peas and love lol, no the edging kerbs were perfect height. They were retaining the bank as it was 8inches higher

Very difficult to take landscaping advice from someone who begins the video driving on the wrong side of the road.
Lmao 🤣
