Two 828mk2 brought back to life so far just by replacing that cap. i have been using Nichicon snap in 16v 15000uf which are 25mm tall. Also repaired a MOTU MIDI interface by .... you guessed it..... swapping the capacitor for the digital supply.
Thanks for sharing this Fabian. Motu is not going to help. I spent 2600 dollars for my 2 mk2's. Then I upgraded them with Black lion audio, for another 1000, just to make them sound better. They really did. But that was also die to buying the micro clock from them, for another 500. Then I got myself a Dell Precision 690. That Motu after years, decided had a chipset that was incompatible. This was after years of instability and frustration, not to mention all the work involved with trying to fix it. I gave up on the 690, wich I spent 2500 dollars on. And bought used Dell 7400, that I had heard worked better. It was basically a upgraded chipset on the same framework. It worked better, for quite a while. Some quirks but better anyway. The problem now might be else where. Probably ressource challenges, drivers, or corrupted OS. I have also upgraded my Cubase all the time. Whilst still keeping my old dell server running win7. But here is my questions to you. I believe my old mk2's might have similar problems to yours. Lately the firewire issue went into shambles again. I also have heard about capacitors making firewire problems. Could this be the same capacitors or others? I have looked for ithe information you have found on the web, but not found as much as you obviously Did you take care of those links by any chance. Hello Fabian, Amazing video. But was the problem just that that display was not working, or was the A-D/D-A functionality not working as well? If so, did replacing that cap fix both issues? Mine emits a high pitched sound with pops also, but no DAW audio comes through, as well as the boot up display being totally dark. Many thanks!
OOps sorry for the late reply. No, the unit stays frozen at that point. Useless. The cap replacement solves the problem, and the motu worked again as it sould!

Im trying to discover whats a noise coming from motu (inside) after spend few hours using the motu, I starting to listening the noise inside the case, and also one of my inputs for mic guitar make noise and latency... hehe so I hope you can help me with some info, as my motu seems to need maintain

I uppload the firmware severeal times, but the problem is stil there. I guy who trayed to fix it sayd to me that the capasitor is not the problem. Mine is stil flat. Did not dry, but.....the card does not start anywhere

Hello Fabien, i think mine (mk3) has been fried on its usb connection port by a lightning bolt that was a lil bit close to where i live, its static load i believe was the problem, so i want to ask for if you dont mind would you give me any tips about it, is it possible to giggle with the usb input within reason or is it too serious to be migled with? like chips and everything that ought to be taken care into a proffessional's supervision, im eager to have your reply txh cheers

hello Cankut, this is so strange but i had your same issue yesterday too.. The soundcard is working, i.e. if i connect a synth to the input , and speakers to the output, i can hear the sound, but when i connect to a mac or windows, the computers does not recognize it.. have you got news?
@@fabianoliver3939 one cool thing about it appeared as the simple solution of changing the type b port only, if it were the firewire port, then, would have ended up with the replacement of the firewire chip as well...havent gone for an operation yet but ill give it a well focused try asap, i hope i wont breake it during the guts being riped ;( :)...i will be back with the splendour of proper functioning, see ya later.

Finally i have been able to get what is going wrong, an oddity for sure but its like, the usb port is dead and front side knobs have all gone dandy. I am unable to reset the firmware to defaults or to re-firm it by an update (which is an outdate in fact) as the knobs do not respond as manufacturer site instructions suggested in commands, However, when i finally got the opportunity to connect it via 1394 i saw that it connects perfectly, responds to the cuemix fx perfectly like i can lit and dim the frontside leds like pad or phantom by clicking them over the cuemix, it is ok for the windows sounds, it is fully functioning with the DAW over the Asio and Midi protocols embedded by the dedicated /standard driver installation. So basically it is a ghost in the shell now XD which i can benefit perfectly via pc (cuemix). I presume the chips inside are alive, naturally, but the connections inside went upside down somehow ( a power surge most definitely). So as to fade this matter away, i can only think there might be an update allowing a reset from the external hosts, an addon to the cuemix code but i guess it is not that probable. Weird thing is though, every technician affirms that it is not technically broken (no trace of surge or etc), and improbability of such an update is nothing but the loss of this ok but not ok device, idk if i should feel lucky for having a hybrid comm unit or not. Peace.

I had power issues with two 828mk2. Flippy restarts. Corrupt data causing sync glitches. Glad I got rid of them. Upgraded to PrismSound. Much better.

I think it's 48khz for spdif in general doesn't go any higher
