This fictional movie tells the story of Saketh Ram (Kamal Haasan). His wife Aparna (Rani Mukherji) is molested and killed during riots in Calcutta. He is convinced that Mahatma Gandhi (Naseeruddin Shah) is responsible for all the problems happening in the country and sets out to kill him. The rest of the movie shows whether he succeeded in his mission or not.

I agree and disagree with you. Agree with that this a very realistic portrayal of a couple. But disagree that her dying wouldn’t seem significant without this scene. I don’t think we remembered how much he loved her when she was dead, we remembered and saw the brutality of how she was raped and killed by the Muslim mob during direct action day as shown in the film. The music, screen play and acting made all the difference. I can’t remember linking this scene with that either with emotions or with memory.
