Dust 2, the map that can make you feel unstoppable when you're having a good day, or make you feel like absolute dogshit when you're having a bad day. It feels like there's no inbetween.
Before i started playing cs, i thought mirage and dust2 would be the same map. Didnt knew any layout, but the textures and some sections of both maps and cause they look so similar, it thought they would be the same map lol
I haven't played csgo in years, but I genuinely see the layout of the map in my head when I'm really sick in bed with a bad fever - I don't think anyone will ever forget the layout of this map lmao

Across 3 accounts, I have almost 9,000 hours into CSGO, and a very large chunk of which was spent DMing on Dust 2. For all four years of high school, I would come home and not even play any MM or ESEA, I would just DM for hours upon hours on Dust 2. Now 5 years after graduating high school, I still do the same, at least 2-3 times a week if I can. I havent played any MM or ESEA in almost 2 years, but i still get on Dust 2 because I guess it feels like home. So much has happened after high school, I left for the Navy, got my associates, moved a lot, found a great girl who I think is the one (wish me luck!), but i still get on Dust 2. Besides the visual update, Dust 2 hasnt changed, at all. And I guess it makes me feel like im still a freshman in HS. It grounds me, that even though everything in my life has changed, Dust 2 and CSGO will be there. It sounds so dumb, but its comforting. No other game/map makes me feel the nostalgia the way D2 does. Its crazy what a stupid video game can do. Also Dust 2 is my least favorite competitive map LOL. Mirage FTW
For real though, I still remember this map was named Dust 3 in the early 2000s, those days me and my friends playing it on 1.6 locally in our fav cyber cafe. Dust 2 was more of a shrunken de_dust map, tiny puny square-ish dust map which is more suitable for warm up session for CS:GO.
Well I dont like it now because of mid you cant cross on higher level maybe you wont get killed but you will take some damage thats why I like 1.6 dust 2 more than csgo because terorists cant watch mid they have to go suicide to watch mid
I played this map since I was like 7 or 8 years old. I'm 20 now. That's more than half of my life playing Dust 2. It's more than just a map. It's home.
Dust map shows a middle east country, which was bombed by west for their personal interest. Thousands died, millions affected till date. Why encourage youth by playing ct as western police and showing terrorist as citzens of west. Change Dust map to Arizona, show english text, show american people and their army as T team. Every action of west will show its reaction inshahAllah.
I think the change is really good. Awpers can still go middle and duel, while the spawnkilling got removed completely. CTs crossing to get to B can still get you killed but it's much more unlikely.
it gets old honestly its my second least favourite map behind mirage its so barebones and boring its boring to play and watch there is nothing to it, nothing special about the map design, very dull and bland also b site is hard as fuck to retake
@@2clair2clair it's true dust 2 could get pretty boring at times due to the lack of "tactical" advances compared to other maps, but the point of dust 2 has always been raw aim and how you can outmaneuver opponents with little amount of structures.

I quit playing D2 back in 1.6 days when it was 90% of the servers. Over saturation killed it for most old school players and a lot of pros grew up in those days as well. We've only really reached the point of pros entering that have been CSGO exclusively in the last couple years. Even CSGO is over saturated as well given it's always the shortest time to a match, so you're playing it 75% of the time if you have it as an option when you queue. There's a reason it's always banned when doing map selections at the pro level. They rarely play (train) it anymore because they got sick of playing it before they went pro.
Nice to see Dave Johnston in the video. I used to make maps for CS 1.6 as a hobby and I was so impressed by Dave's maps (Dust 1/2, Cbble). He is an absolute legend.
one thing i really like about valve is that when an amazing pro play happens that everyone will remember they add something into the map that doesn't change the map at all but is a small homage to the sick play

I feel like there were 2 maps in ALL of gaming where 2 types of people were made, where friendships were born or ended. Where it was just fun or chaos. Them being Dust 2 and Rust. Don't want to start a fight or a war, but all of can agree these 2 maps will always be at the top of anyones lists.
Sad to see CS:S only get about 10 seconds of coverage, that was a whole era. Also it would have been good to hear more from the creator. What does he think about Dust 2's cultural impact, did he go into the games industry, does he get royalties from all of the other versions etc.

Dust 2 has that brother aura, he sometimes bullies you into oblivion, laughs at your face and sometimes is chill and lets you have fun, at the end of the day you two have grown together, wouldnt have it any other way.

The thing about esports is that, in order for it to be successful, it needs to be hype, thrilling and sometimes unpredictable. Just like regular sports. Dust 2 is always one of the most fun maps to watch pro teams play. You know it’s gonna be a brawl when a team locks in dust 2 as a map pick.
back in the day when internet is new and is very slow we only play LAN games and this is the only map we play all day and we do 16 vs 16 it was SO FUN!!
Before I got my first gaming PC there was an Internet cafe in my city that had steam/wow/unreal tourney CoD, all kinds of amazing games. My friends dad owned it and every Friday night they had Friday night fights which was a CS 1.6 tourney for adults only. He would let us in sometimes to spectate and on rare occasion, play. Those were the most epic and memorable moments of my child hood. I don’t really play CS anymore but it will be forever cemented in my memory (alongside WoW) as the game of my childhood. Playing 1.6 and WoW as a 13 year old with all my buddies was to this day the best gaming experience of my lifetime.
I'm a new fps player, completely new to these games. I Started playing Valorant from August and I played CSGO for the first time on 2 Jan 2021! Yes just few weeks before 😅😅 Haven't touched Valorant since and I'm completely in love with Dust 2 😌

The first time I played 1.6 back in high school, my first memory of Dust2 was getting spawn camp wall hack killed while in a cyber cafe. Good times
If I was that guy, I would DEFINITELY end up being that one old man always drunk and depressed in the bar that tells everyone "I was the designer of the most iconic multiplayer map ever made" right before passing out.
"We wouldn't have it any other way" well I'd have it a bit more optimized so I can play on 100+ fps but ok

Because it's new , you get low fps
Man I think you should just have an eco for couple of weeks or months and save up to buy better pc parts.

The thing about esports is that, in order for it to be successful, it needs to be hype, thrilling and sometimes unpredictable. Just like regular sports. Dust 2 is always one of the most fun maps to watch pro teams play. You know it’s gonna be a brawl when a team locks in dust 2 as a map pick.
back in the day when internet is new and is very slow we only play LAN games and this is the only map we play all day and we do 16 vs 16 it was SO FUN!!

Before I got my first gaming PC there was an Internet cafe in my city that had steam/wow/unreal tourney CoD, all kinds of amazing games. My friends dad owned it and every Friday night they had Friday night fights which was a CS 1.6 tourney for adults only. He would let us in sometimes to spectate and on rare occasion, play. Those were the most epic and memorable moments of my child hood. I don’t really play CS anymore but it will be forever cemented in my memory (alongside WoW) as the game of my childhood. Playing 1.6 and WoW as a 13 year old with all my buddies was to this day the best gaming experience of my lifetime.

As a guy growing up in a small town in India. CS 1.6 was our only game to go for. I remember playing Dust2, aim headshot, aztec world, poolday, poolday aztec, awp India, etc. Last I played CS was in 2016. Somehow this video came on my home page. I need to start playing again but all my friends are 30+ and with kids lol.
