What it is Rosie, I love your version, and it is very true to the Clarence Ashley version, Further great singing. I can feel the time travelers all around, and it is 1922 with the dudes and the gamblers standing around. Best Uncle Bill Bullfrawg
This one sounds the most like Doc's version of all the many versions I've heard. ❤. Do you have the tabs handy by chance? Maybe you could upload a tutorial 😊
Thank you! Unfortunately I don't, I learned this by ear from Clarence Ashley's 1929 recording if that helps. This is a pretty popular song so there are probably a bunch of tabs online
Very nice! You have a distinctive sound, dont listen to too much of the " round peak style"! What you do sounds very much like the original. How about some 2 finger and Charlie Poole tunes?
Nicely done. Is that the 12” pot Deering banjo you’re playing? If so, I’m jealous, because your sounds better than mine. Or maybe your technique is better than mine, in which case I’m screwed. 😊
Thank you! This is just the standard 11" Goodtime, I'm using nylgut strings though, that might be the difference? I'm in the market for a new main banjo cause I don't like the sound on this too much anymore.
@@roughhouserosie Ah...nylgut. I see that now that I look closer. I may try them myself as I do like the sound. Thanks for the tip. Good luck on your hunt for a new banjo. There are many good ones out there.
As pretty and spooky as a traditional murder ballad should be. Awesome!
Thank you!
Great pickin' I am completely impressed.
Thank you!

That's some damn fine clawhammer, I'm still working it out myself but seeing you play genuinely inspired me to keep at it.
Thank you! Keep goin!
I love this, keep coming back to listen! On my list to learn once I get a bit (lot) better!
Thanks so much! Good luck with learning it it's a fun one!

Glad I stumbled on this, such fantastic tone and melody - your version is great! Do you have a tab for it you can share?

Thanks! I do almost as much fancy picking as I do clawhammer. For a Charlie Poole tune I've done check out the Highwayman
