My washer is 20 years old. About 10 years ago this repair was needed re wet clothes after the spin cycle. I used the thin washer then and it worked. Ten years later clothes were getting wetter again. Again I used the thin washer, it placed the arrow where it should be when rotated but did not cure the wet clothes. With no other option I placed the thick washer in. Although I shaved the edge of the C clip retainer, not enough of the groove was exposed to get it on no matter what I did. However, I solved it and perhaps the solution might help others. Using a Dremmel I ground the edge of the washer down at an angle on the outer facing side, exposing the groove and allowing relatively easy insertion of the clip. The machine now works fine again - the thick washer did the trick. Great video.
Great video. I did have a lot of trouble with getting the C clip back in. I had to go out and buy a long pair of needlenose pliers, and I had to make sure that the smooth side of the C clip was against the washer. Thanks, you saved me $100.
I have the MAV7700AWW and like many others had an issue with the C clip. I noticed when I took the old washers off there was a spring-type washer that was not in the new kit - which probably made the assembler's life a whole lot easier getting that C clip on. I also noticed that the plastic collar did not seat flush against the new metal roller bearing, so I did end up squeezing to two together prior to assembly with my needlenose pliers but I still had an issue with that C clip. I used my flathead screwdriver and inserted it into the groove where the C clip goes to push back the new assembly as far as I could while inserting the ends of the C clip, but it was still a bugger to get that C clip on. Not nearly as easy as the tutorial makes it look, but doable.
The C clip was a pain in the butt! My 1999 MAV7600AWW washer stopped spinning, and the pulley was totally trashed inside. We had to file down the C clip ends to even get it close to the channel. But now everything works awesome, and the spin cycle almost dries the clothes for me! We also replaced the belt since it was trashed, too. Thanks for the help!!
Thank you! I followed your directions and now my old washer works like new! I had a fancy front loader it was nothing but trouble. top loaders are the way to go!
After removing the break drum and cleaning it , replacing the thrust bearing and now the shaft doesn’t stick out far enough to insert the E-clip . What is my next step to remedy this
I sanded/filed down the middle of the pulley, per what I saw others on the Amazon parts reviews say to do. Finally got enough clearance to get the C clip on with some massive force.
My washing machine had a problem where it was not spinning, I turned it on while tilted to watch the belt operating and it seems to be working fine. Turns out to be a broken E-Clip, the whole pulley assembly was just falling off the main rod... Replaced from Lowes at ~$2. Works as a charm now!
Great video! I would like to add the following notes for diagnostics. My washer could agitate and pump water but wouldn’t spin. Years before the thrust bearing failed the washer would squeal when the spin cycle would stop. Near the end the washer would make noise during the cycle and it sounding like plastic cracking/grinding. The E-Clip is hard to insert. I used RoboGrip pliers from Sears and made sure the Lower Cam was rotated until the maximum shaft was exposed. Hopefully this additional information helps somebody.
Installation steps were dead on. Thank you! I replaced the brake rotor and stator, snubber ring, pump and drive belt to hopefully get another 11 years from this Maytag washer :D
I now have a Maytag with the same belt drive be system. Makes bad rumble when agitating. Also spins while draining. I am thinking transmission. Comment? Btw, spins fine with no noise.
My maytag performa/atlantis , somtimes spins then wont or just wont spin at all,, How do you tell the difference between an issue with the brake, transmission or the thrust bearing ? And Does the thrust bearing act as the clutch for the spin cycle ?

Hi, I change the whole kit and I can't get through to adjust the transmission. When I turn the pulley the inner white part turns together with the pulley and I can't adjust the transmission. And the shaft does not pull out to install the thicker washer. So I need help. Thanks.
I followed the installation instructions and used the thin washer, but now I cannot get the C clip back in. There is not enough room for even the thin washer? what do I do now?
I changed my Thrust bearing on my maytag MAV7600AWW I used the thinnest washer and its to tight for the arrow to fall in between the 2 marks and it wont engage the drum to spin. Any ideas?
Will this repair work without the washer if it is within the two lines? It spins fine now, but do you know if there will be any longer-term problems with no washer?
my clothes are still soaking wet at the end of the spin cycle. the drum spins but not fast enough to pull the water from the clothes. will this fix the problem?
The trick to getting the clip on with the new parts is to cut yourself, grow a third arm, cuss at it alot, and then try to occupy the same space with 3 different things.
what does the plastic bush do? my maytag makes a noise when spinning and then dies down. I replaced the thrust bearing though I never got the plastic bush with the new part and instill have the same sound..slightly fainter
Without knowing what you have, I would suggest posting the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem. forum.appliancepartspros.com/

This is a great How-To repair video. However, it would be nice if you could spend 30 seconds on the front side to help diagnose the problems created by a worn thrust bearing. You state 3 things, two of them are operational and probably easier to figure out. The "Washer is Noisy" is a little vague. It would be fantastic IF you could give an example of what to listen for. Thanks for the Repair Tutorial!!!
Based on the info available here, I replaced the Thrust bearing, thinking it wasn't disengaging and allowing the tub to spin. In the end I needed to replace the Pump, as the bearing was shot and it was seizing up and preventing the tub from spinning consistently.

Thank you!

Excellent tutorial! I ordered my parts from your site, they were exact fit! Took 20 minutes and we were back up and running. Thanks!

I have the same problem. Any suggestions yet?

Thanks for those tips, Thomas!
This sounds EXACTLY like my washer. I'm going to try this fix. Thanks!
I appreciate telling the symptoms of a bad thrust washer kit. So many do not explain the symptom of a faulty part.
We're happy to help!

where do you grab the lower cam to rotate it so its out as far as it will go?

I am having the same issue. Anyone figured out a resolution to this?
I didn’t have enough clearance to put the e clip back on. I put it on without the washer is that going to screw up anything?
Well you should know by now. Did it?
I'm wondering the same. Any problems yet?
I followed the installation instructions and used the thin washer, but now I cannot get the C clip back in. There is not enough room for even the thin washer? what do I do now?
Pull on the shaft with pliers to get the tiny bit extra to get the clip on
Thank you.... It worked for me.
Happy to have helped!

After replacing your thrust bearing... It’s also a good time to replace your water supply hoses, if they are a few years old.
my clothes are still soaking wet at the end of the spin cycle. the drum spins but not fast enough to pull the water from the clothes. will this fix the problem?
Had the thin washer didn’t work. Changed to thicker one still didn’t work.
I have the same machine as the one just worked on. I have some oil leaking from the transmission, would installing this kit stop the oil leak?
This kit does not have any oil seals. Please call us with the model and serial numbers of your washer so we can see what seals are available.
Gracias 👍

There are *no* Whirlpool- or KitchenAid-branded washers that take this part/kit.
