Just a quick first post on you tube of my 1965 Pontiac Bonneville. I really love it and it was a great day to shoot some footage with my digital cam.
The footage was shot right here off of the Virginia Tech campus (GO HOKIES!) Note the flag on the vent window!

I attended the 1965 New York Worlds Fair and in the automobile part they had a beautiful 1965 red Pontiac Bonneville on a rotating platform. It was the most beautiful car I had ever seen. I have loved that model ever since that time; I was 10.
THank you very much, you know your cars!. You described it just as I remember it, just couldn't remember where. That makes me think I saw it when I was real young boy in my grandfather's Buick. That's all he ever bought, big Buicks in the 50s and 60s. He probably had the '56 Buick 3 or 4 years, '57 to '60 or so... and I saw it as a 6 to 10 year old kid. (I was born in '52) That's wild. My memory of that car went way back! Thanks for the answer!

There's this kid that has a blue, fixed up Bonneville that visits this girl on my block about twice a month. Everytime I can hear when he comes down from the motor rumbling. Totally sweet ride. Just like yours but with a metal-flake blue paint & chrome rims.
This stunning vehicle needs to be in a magazine -- a classy one, like Hemmings Muscle Machines or Classic Cars.

wow, I was totally unaware of that, I'm really happy that it was the '65 Pontiac Bonneville was Motor Trend's car of the year for 1965, it definitely deserved it IMO, it's my all time favorite year for the full sized Pontiac's

What an absolutely gorgeous machine...the long, sleek lines; the eight-lug wheels, those beautiful stacked headlights. Classy, both elegant and sporty, and timeless. And the B O N N E V I L L E name on the rear is longer than a Prius.

That's a sweet Pontiac, all the more special because it's a convertible. Looks like it has leather interior, very clean. A friend of mine had a '64 Bonneville with leather, a convertible back in about 1970. He used pledge to shine the leather. It was a nice ride. If I remember correctly, it had like a fluid speedometer dial that changed colors as the bar went from left to right as speed increased. Is anyone familar with that kind of speedometer or do I have that mixed up with some other car?
I really love the 1965 full sized Pontiacs, I thought they were the nicest looking full size cars of 1965, they definitely looked nicer than the Chevy's, the Olds, the Buicks and even the Caddy's of that year, this was when Pontiac knew how to build great cars
@AirCargoHeavy Interesting. I have learned that the color changing speedometer was a feature on some of the late 50's Buicks, perhaps other cars as well; Oldsmobile is a GM car, too, so your recollection is probably right on. GM likely owned a patent on it. It was a pretty cool feature. I would hope that anyone who junks an old Buick with that kind of speedometer dial would pull it from the car and save it for some custom car builder who might like to use it in a custom car.

Yup the ride wonderfully. It's quite a classic ride.. not the type of ride you'd see released today on any car but nevertheless something that is immediately appreciated.
I have recently seen a 1965 Bonneville convertible with a 4 speed on the floor, unsure what the engine is but they are sweet cars.

Yeah, my friend's car was a '64 Bonneville convertible and I thought it was his car that had the unusual cool looking speedometer dial. Looking at another 64 Bonneville on YT I see the regular style speedometer. I'm thinking since maybe his '64 Bonneville was a convertible and had leather interior that it was a top of the line car with lots of options and perhaps that included the fluid style color bar for a speedometer. Anybody out there ever see such a speedometer dial back in the day?
@DougCameraMan I don't know if Pontiac had such an option, but my Dad's '61 Oldsmobile (unknown model) had one. All us kids in the back seat would "ooh" and "aah" that speedo and try to get Dad to make it go further.

My family also has a 65 Bonneville but it is the four door. Sure don't make cars like the use to do they. I will try and get a vid post of it soon.
@DougCameraMan Oldsmobile from 59-62 had that type of Speedo and Buick from 56-61.
I I'm not absolutely certain that the unusual looking fluid dial speedometer was in my friend's 64 Bonneville although . I thought that's where I saw it but it may have been in another car. It wasn't in a customized car either. I just can't remember which car it was I saw it in, it's been many years. I swear I thought it was his 64 Bonneville but it may have been some other car.
@monarch1957 Thanks. I thought I saw that cool speedometer dial on my grandfather's late 50s Buick, probably a roadmaster. I was born in late '52 so I was still young at the time. Thanks again. Check out my videos sometime. I have 500+ mostly classic cars.
Definitely not how the '65 dash worked. There was an optional "Electro-Cruise" control unit that had an additional yellow line that you dialed in for cruise ctrl but no fluid color changing!
Sounds like a sweet '60s-esque touch though whichever had that!
