  • In this fascinating video, we journey through the rich history and mystique of one of India's oldest texts, the Rig Veda, and its mention of the mysterious river goddess, Sarasvatī. Revered as the best of Mothers, Rivers, and Goddesses, Sarasvatī once flowed through northwestern India, nurturing life and inspiring devotion.
    However, time and tectonic shifts have left only dry sands and arid scrub where the mighty river once ran. Amidst this desolation in modern-day Gujarat, a remarkable architectural treasure lay hidden for centuries-Rani Ki Vav, the Queen’s stepwell.
    Join us as we explore the historical and cultural significance of Rani Ki Vav, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Patan. Built in the 11th century by Queen Udaymati in memory of her husband, King Bhima I of the Solanki dynasty, this subterranean marvel showcases the pinnacle of Maru Gurjara architecture.
    Watch how the stepwell, which extends over 210 feet in length and plunges 90 feet deep, reflects ancient Indian artistry with nearly 500 main sculptures and over 1,000 minor ones, depicting Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist deities, apsaras, and intricate Patola designs.
    Learn about the ingenious water management system that supported this arid region and the stepwell's role as both a functional water source and a place of spiritual significance. Marvel at the seven pillared floors and the exquisite beauty captured in the carvings celebrating femininity and shringaar (the art of beautification).
    Unearthed and restored in the 20th century, Rani Ki Vav stands today not only as a testament to India's architectural ingenuity but also as a symbol of pride and a timeless homage to love, life, and legacy.
    Don’t miss this journey into the heart of ancient India and the enduring legacy of Rani Ki Vav, a marvel now immortalized on India’s currency.
    'India: Marvels & Mysteries with William Dalrymple' explores historical sites, revisits cold trails and shines the light on unanswered questions about India’s incredible past and her many wonders, like never before. It also offers new perspectives on mighty empires, characters from Indian history, our ancestors, and their knowledge of complex phenomena. Plus the cravings communicate various Indian philosophies and teach hand mudras, they are not just there as decorations. There are a lot of essays and academic papers written which you can find online. Overall, a beautiful blend of art, philosophy, teaching, and function of water management.

      Actually most of budhist pilgrimages were developed by hindu kings. Regardless of faith, any king would support temples of all faiths. Most ancient temples have same pattern.

    But ancient Indians without fighting created some of magnificent architecture but unable to protect their architecture like China

    • @Blastizor
      @Blastizor 4 месяца назад +11

      Wrong. India protected it for thousands of years, China was civilized by India, they were not as sought after as a civilization like India was. India was the land of the Gods, the richest and oldest civilization on earth. It only fell in the Kali Yuga after lord Krishna died at the end of Dwapara Yuga. All our texts prophecised what was to come in these dark ages. It took a millenia of Islamist and Turkic invasions to finally conquer the mighty Bharat India, yet still centuries later we are still standing, Hinduism is still alive and the majority religion in India. We cannot be defeated, we are on the rise again and we will be much more potent this time.

      @@Nopee395 Indeed. We invented the Hindu Numeral System that the entire world uses today (1-9) as well as Zero, which is a direct result of the technological boom in the world. India civilized China by giving them Buddhism, they were savages before this eating all types of wild animals like rats and bats, still they even do it to this day. India is historically a culture of vegetarians, it is only now that the diets of most people are poorer versions of the old complex vegetarian diet because of poverty and overpopulation.

      I read that it was silted by flooding river, which is unconvincing in desert region.silt can't fill 90 ft.
      If people filled it, it is also unconvincing becoz people took water here.
      But here's a catch. This well contains many statues also.
      And people knew statues are top targets of islam.
      So strong possibility is people covered it for the sake of statues even to struggle for water.
