Ron Harper (36pts/10rebs/6asts/4blks) vs. Bulls (1989)

  • Ron Harper takes on the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordan in the season opener without the help of injured Brad Daugherty, Mark Price, Larry Nance and Chris Dudley. Even Harper himself is playing on a hyperextended knee. His boxscore-stuffing statline helps the Cavaliers to get to an overtime before falling a bit short due to Jordan's 54 points. November 3, 1989.

This is one of the reasons those 96-98 Bulls were so tough. Harper wasn't the offensive player he was by that time because of knee injuries but he was a hell of a defensive player. The Bulls had 4 great defenders in their starting lineup, MJ, Pip, Harp and Rodman. That's what made them so tough, one of the greatest defensive teams ever in NBA history.

      1) The lakers never faced bulls in the finals. Kobe wasn’t good enough yet and they got swept by the UTAH
      2. Penny and Shaq is 2 players. I give you 3D is a nice role player.
      3. Sprewell was in golden state until Jordan retired. That tells me you weren’t actually watching much 90s basketball 🤦🏻‍♂️
4). The Knicks were 1 main star. Johnson isn’t a scorer. Alan Houston was good but he doesn’t compare to Scottie, Rodman, Kukoc, and Harper as the next 4 best players.
      5. Lebron made it to the finals against the Mavs which was the same team that swept Kobe championship Lakers. They were pretty good and were able to play zone defense. Somthing Jordan took advantage of as he didn’t play against zone defense.

@@shiningkingpretty much which team they ever faced in the finals or playoffs from 95-98 can match up with their 5 best players in Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Kukoc, and Harper. You won’t be able to name one and it’s not even close.
This is what Harper did in his previous season. So it makes sense why the bulls were very good at defense. Harper was the 5th best player for the bulls so he can just focus playing defense with his 6’5” frame.
“In 1993-94, his fourth full season with the Clippers and eighth in the NBA, he played and started in 75 games, averaging 20.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 4.6 assists and 1.9 steals.[10] On March 11, 1994, he tallied a triple-double with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists along with six steals in a win over the Dallas Mavericks. Two nights later, he came within one assist of duplicating the feat, with 39 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists plus another six steals in a win over the Golden State Warriors.[18]”
