    Hey, boss, I'll not come to the office today, Saukki said that at this temperature and fresh snow I should stay at home :-D

    I am working on it, to get my old Milan SL going in winter. My favorite is to go with normal shoes. It works with platform pedals. This not for long distances.

    unfortunately, here in the us a 4 wheeled velomobile isn't legally considered a bike, so we can't actually use one with more than 3 wheels without weird licensing and insurance stuff (and even then it's in a weird legal grey area)

  • @4nz-nl
    @4nz-nl 2 года назад

    Concerning that snow in the wheel wells; wouldn't it be an idea to put some flexible plastic strip (plexiglass or something) on the inside, with a little pin attached to it, so you can change the form of the wheel well by moving/bending the plexiglass from the inside of the bike? Maybe it's possible to just shake the snow off that way while riding. During summer you can remove the system and close the holes with a small rubber button.

    Use ski goggles. They don't fog up as much as glasses or visor.

    • @ChristianSchindelhauer
      @ChristianSchindelhauer 2 года назад +1

      I agree. I am using ski goggles and a balaclava in my Waw (from Katanga) in winter. I leave the hood at home, since I like the view and as soon as you stop you steam like a small train engine and there is no way to keep the windows clear. Another advantage of leaving the hood at home (not only) in winter is, that car drivers see you as a bicycle and not as a little car. So, they treat you slightly better.

      Or you can use vaseline. I learned that from swimming lessons, but haven't tried it myself.

      Check out MX/ATV Goggles. They typically have better airflow which will reduce fogging compared to ski goggles (that are designed to low intensity activities).

    Another tip: Let people know where you go and at what time you'll arrive. Should something happen, and you're not in a position to call for help, they can.

      That's a good idea anyway. I usually send someone a follow link from my navigation device. This way, they can see my average speed, my location, my heartrate etc.

    Hi Saukki, I didn't know you are using a schlumpf mountain drive on the voyager, it would be great to have your feedback about the schlumpf :)
    Is it easy to use with pedal cleats? Have you changed the position by accident while pedaling? Is the maintenance easy enough? Are you satisfied with it?
    Thank you Saukki!

    • @TheVelomobileChannel
      @TheVelomobileChannel  2 года назад +1

      It’s very easy to use even with clipless pedals. I’ve never accidentally engaged it. So far I haven’t needed to do any maintenance, so can’t say anything about that.
      I can recommend the mountain drive if you really need it. (I don’t need it here on flat land in summer, but in winter I really need it)

    • @4nz-nl
      @4nz-nl 2 года назад

      @@TheVelomobileChannel It can be very useful in summer too, if you have to make a sudden stop. Just be careful with putting lots of torque into it, as your torque is x2.5 with the mountain drive engaged and that counts for the whole driveline. If you're a strong rider (high torque), it might be worth investing in a mountaindrive with the metal spider too. I bent my spider to bits while riding in 1:1.
      Handle it with care and it's really a wonderful product. If I do go to Spezi in the Milan it's getting a Mountain Drive before I leave, for sure. My next VM will also have a mountain drive + 1x12/13 setup.

    I have a pinlock for the first time this winter and I love it. QuattroVelo. Long head-in hood. Pinlock 30.
    My winter has been up to something like -3. With wind chill of course much lower.
    The visor can stay down now and it stays cosy warm. I don't even need a cap/hood or buff except for strong side winds. (I live at the coast)
    Up till now I never had any fogging behind the pinlock.
    Next thing I want a wiper to keep it clear - on the outside - too. Fog, rain and little snow. But then again I don't need one so often.
    I saw you don't use your Pinlock anymore. Is that because of much lower temperatures?

    • @TheVelomobileChannel
      @TheVelomobileChannel  2 года назад +1

      My Pinlock trial was a failure. It didn’t stay on the place. I guess it’s the velomobile body vibrations which shake the pinlock loose. I tried twice. Both times the pinlock insert has imperfect seal which caused it to start leaking and then it came loose. I was happy with the product as long as it was working. But because it failed twice, I gave up and didn’t purchase third one. 🤷‍♂️

      @@TheVelomobileChannel Perhaps the fit was too tight/loose?! You can rotate the pins to get a perfect fit. I had to rotate one pin a little bit to get a, what looked to me, perfect fit.
      Vibrations should be no issue according to many on the German velomobile forum. Only for snowscootervisors acccording to Velomobile-Nord. He has made a video about it on his youtube channel called 'Beschlagene Visiere im Velomobil' ( I can't put the link here because Google/RUclips will delete my post)

      @@toonverbruggen7351 Sure, Winter looks like that in a velomobile. Untill you open the visor. Tipping point 10°C / wind chill.
