    I considered doing this myself but felt it was more important to keep them separate. Simple reason. I would rather have an emergency back up battery fully charged and ready to connect my heater and lighting if my main battery got too low and therefore I would know I had a problem to deal with without the need of freezing my knackers off. It's also handy to have one charging up at home (or if im away, booking onto a campsite to get it recharged). It just felt like a safer option especially this time of year.

    • @Philippines-Anthony-Sandra
      @Philippines-Anthony-Sandra 14 дней назад +4

      @ yep for me freedom is about having as many choices as possible. One of the good things of a childhood in poverty is it made me super paranoid about running out of options as an adult. I guess that’s where my mindset of having a spare battery over one big battery comes from 🤣.
      Have a great weekend yourself. 👍

    This is in my van for a 12v system using 2 batteries. Connect all your positives together , then all your negatives together. Take the negative from one battery to your busbar then your positive from the other battery to busbar ,so they discharge together as one battery. Also more important make sure the posive and negative wires are all the same size .

    Both ways you had it are exactly the same makes no difference mate they both parallel either way trust me i am a wireman and electronics engineer 48 years p.s you need some fuses and a dis-connector or isolator in that lot plus turn the second battery around keep the pos and Negs far apart. happy to help next time your down south you will like my van too m8

  • @Defender200tdi
    @Defender200tdi 14 дней назад +1

    That's spot on Mark, you are now using the two batteries as one large battery with the voltage the same but the compacity doubled. Just remember to replace both batteries as a pair that way they last longer. You really need a voltage meter so you can see when your batteries are low as dropping below 12.0 volts will seriously shorten their life. If you do a van tour video of my van I can show you 👍

    • @SuperBlobsterMan
      @SuperBlobsterMan 14 дней назад +3

      He had it right the first time. Moving the connections around doesn't make a difference. Copper wire does not have some kind of 1 way valve.

    • @Defender200tdi
      @Defender200tdi 14 дней назад

      @SuperBlobsterMan if you have both feeds to your loads coming off one battery it draws only from that battery causing the other to balance it and wearing out the first battery faster. The way Mark has now done it draws the power evenly.

    • @SuperBlobsterMan
      @SuperBlobsterMan 14 дней назад

      @@Defender200tdi That is not how parallel connections work. Both batteries are connected to the load. The battery further from the load is not on a delayed discharge. But even if what you say was true, the batteries have to be charged anyways after a discharge, so how does that create more work for the battery? No matter what, the batteries will still discharge and charge the same amount over the lifetime of their use.

    Great video mate.
    If I can please offer 1 but of advice.
    Please do yourself a favour and grt a dc to dc converter.
    They take the pressure off your alternator.
    They also regulate the voltage to proper charging profiles.
    There are low cost ones.
    If I was cashed up I'd buy you a renogy 50 amp dc to dc with built in mppt. Then you could chuck a lil solar blanket out for extra battery juice.
    Anyhow that's my two Bob's worth.
    Thankyou again for continuing to make great videos.

Desial heater wouldn't start so had gas fire on and Currently got generator on outside charging battery maybe give my solar panel a clean tmorrow as I don't think a light should flatten it 😂 wish me look lol think maybe I should invest in another battery also

    Hi Mark, yes they are in parallel but it would be better if you connect the outside world positive on the positive of one battery and the outside world negative to the negative of the other battery.
    Now you just need to charge them up.🤔
    Any news on the Alternator?
    New you have 2, could have one on charge in the house and be using the other in the van and swap them around.
    Take care M

    You can cause fire if any metal touches both terminals, it happened to us whilst driving, it was a wire coat hanger that fell down and did it.

  • @GeordieOnTour
    @GeordieOnTour 15 дней назад +12

    No that's wrong also lol if you are connecting two battery to run as one so they get equal drain you use neg from batt A and poss from batt B then connect poss neg from B to poss of batt A, so they run in a loop and they drain together as one battery, that is the correct way. You can get one lithium for 300 quid that would give you more power than both of your batteries together that you paid 260 for and it would be lighter

    • @Defender200tdi
      @Defender200tdi 14 дней назад +3

      That's a series connection giving double the voltage but the same amps. The way Mark did it is correct. You connect the positives and negatives to make one large battery with double the amps but the same voltage, you then take your feeds to your fuse box by taking the positive off one battery and the negative off the other.

    Both connections setups are in parallel BUT the second one is the recommended way to connect them from what I can gather ( I’m a sparkie but have only been dabbling in home Solar) . I hope the connection between your car battery/ alternator is fused and is controlled . Also is there a fuse for your inverter .? Lead acid batteries can only discharge to 50% .

    Mark,,lithium battery's do not like cold weather that's one downside to them aswell as there far too mutch,your lead acid battery's would have lasted there full life span if you would have known about the upgrading of the alternater but at least you know now and will have a lot more years off your battery's,

    Hi Mark, I'm going to be controversial here and say personally I don't think it would make much difference either way.
    The first way you had it the batteries would still act as one battery bank and would level out with respect to charge level.
    You've done it correctly but I'm not convinced 😂.
    I expect someone else will come on here and say otherwise but I don't care 🤣
