    Thanks for the good video, Kathy. Yes the R7 is a good camera but as Canon has said it is not considered a mirrorless replacement for the 7D MkII but more likely the 90D. From many reviews I've seen there is still a problem with rolling shutter. I also know shooters who are left eye favored and have noted that they can't fit their thumb on the repositioned joy stick. I have big hands and every DSLR as well as my full frame R bodies I use the optional battery grip. I like that I can go all day on safari without changing batteries and with large long lenses it just balances better but Canon says no grip is planned for this model. As a 7D MkII owner I plan to just keep that body for now and wait for the next R edition and hopefully it is more of a replacement for that camera.

      Get your hands on the R7 is you can, Chris. I see it as a replacement for the 7D MarkII. The R3 is the only mirrorless I've used so far that had a battery that could go all day. Mirrorless batteries just don't do as long. Thanks for the comment.

      There is no rolling shutter problems when using the mechanical shutter at 15fps which is faster than the 7DII. It has dual card slots unlike the 90D. The auto focus is substantially better than either the 7DII or 90D. You have over 50% more resolution than the 7DII. You have the mirrorless advantage of what you see is what you get. Low light noise performance is better. I don’t believe it to be a rugged as the 7DII and the lack of a battery grip is disappointing but paired with the nimble RF 100-500 balance shouldn’t be an issue. I just wish they hadn’t mucked about with the dial and button layout. Was going to get one to complement my R5 but having the different layout would be just too frustrating. It’s a shame😢

    • @KathyAdamsClark
      @KathyAdamsClark  2 года назад

      @@toddbailey5198 I think the R7 would complement the R5 well. Agree that the layout would be confusing. I hope Canon introduces the grip to help some of you out. It's a nice camera.

    I got mine and was definitely impressed. I have a 5D mkiv so the R7 was intended as a backup and replacement of the mk iii. But after using with my Ef-L lenses I think it will become So much more than my backup. Probably My allways have it with me camera. Well done Canon 👍😊

      Thanks for the comment! I think you -- and a lot of other people -- are going to find the R7 is more than a back-up. Yes, a primary camera versus a back-up. Thanks!

      Thanks for the comment, Doug. I've never used grips on the Canon cameras. This one feels really good in the hand for me. I suspect, though, there will be a grip eventually. Too many people use them.

      @doughaass2379 2 года назад

      @@KathyAdamsClark I would buy one if they come out with a grip. I have always bought the grip or bought 1DX bodies with integral grip. Same for the R3. I love shooting my 7D Mk II for my grandson' soccer and swimming meets. That body coupled with the Canon 100-400 F4.5-5.6L IS II lens with the grip is perfect in all cases. I want the grip for vertical shooting and extended battery life.

    I've been waiting for mine since May25th no sign of it or even an expected date (Watford UK SRS). Not going to waste my summer waiting for it probably even be autumn seems nobody can say, I'm considering selling up my Canon gear moving to OM-1 Olympus. After many years of failed 7dmkII rumours .. R7 is not stacked sensor the view finder is also too low rez not really flag ship is it like the 7DmkII was in it's day. It's probably a good camera but Canon sensor tech never catch up with Sony dev.

      Thanks for posting! I know the feeling. It took months for my Canon R5 to arrive. I almost gave us. Then it came and I'm so glad I waited. I tested the Olympus system and liked the features. I like Canon more, though.

    Still undecided between the R7 and R6 II, paired with the RF 100-500mm. Which of the two would you recommend if mainly used for bird photography and no budget concern? Wondering if the extra reach of the cropped sensor would be enough to compensate its shortcomings compared to the full frame.

    • @KathyAdamsClark
      @KathyAdamsClark  Год назад

      Thanks for the question! I'll always offer my advice. Personally, I'd get the R6 Mark II if price is no issue. You've got a bit more robust camera with the R6 Mark II and some upgrades. So if price is not issue, I'd go with the R6 Mark II. It would also be worth your time to put both cameras in your hand. The R7 might feel better in a small hand. The R6ii will be better in a big hand. The placement of the controller on the back needs to ergonomically work for your hand.

    Thanks for the video. I like your video presentation style and content. But, I'm selling my R7 and trading for the R6 mark II ASAP. The button layout is far too different than the R6. Folks considering the R7 as a backup body to the R6 or R5 will be very dissapointed. For the life of me, Canon's decision to not put all the great features you menition in a body that more closely matches the R5/R6 family of camera's is one that I have come to intensley dislike.

    • @KathyAdamsClark
      @KathyAdamsClark  Год назад +1

      Thanks for your comment @1955mlynch. It's nice that we have choices in cameras from body style, to size, to price range. I love the R6 Mark II. Since buying it, my R3 sits in the bag most of the time. Friends have the R7 and love it. We have to choose the camera that works for us. BTW, that's one reason I suggest people rent a camera or lens before buying. We never know if the equipment is for us until we give it a try. Thanks for the comment!

    Nice job,but but you forgot to mention the noisy shutter ,noise over 3200 plus lousy buffer of only 1.5 seconds in raw.

    • @KathyAdamsClark
      @KathyAdamsClark  2 года назад +1

      Thanks, Wayne. Yes, the shutter is loud. I found that interesting. Not a detraction, though, especially if you're moving straight from the 7D Mark II. Noise in the ISO is something I'll address in later posts. Thanks for the reminder. Good comment on the butter. It hasn't been a problem but I haven't done a lot of rapid bursts so far. Next thing to test. Thanks for bringing it up.

    • @doughaass2379
      @doughaass2379 2 года назад

      I figured the buffer would not be any better than the 7D Mk II. I can live with that for the events I shoot. I only shoot soccer and swim in short bursts to keep out of the buffer. Birds in flight and some other action would not be as good.

    • @KathyAdamsClark
      @KathyAdamsClark  2 года назад +1

      I had to give this a test. I just put the R7 on 1/8000th of a second. It has 36 photos in buff with my 128GB 300MB/s SanDisc card. I fired at high-speed burst for a 12 seconds and never got a busy signal. Did it again for longer 10 seconds and didn't get a busy signal. The buffer is related to your card. I'm not seeing a problem with the buffer.

      @@KathyAdamsClark I know I always use the fastest cards available in my 7D Mk II. Those are usually the most expensive ones you can shell out for. If you try any of the slower ones, you will get frustrated pretty fast.
