    Energy level is good, all things considered, but like others have said, you hafta see him in 1958 when this came out! He rivaled Little Richard for being absolutely balls-to-the-wall wild and unhinged!

    He was a groundbreaking 1950s performer. As a pianist, Elton John listed two people as his greatest influences: Oscar Peterson and Jerry Lee Lewis. Check out Jerry Lee’s 1958 performance of this song and “Breathless” on Dick Clark’s show. Also, you should check out “Whole Lotta Shaking Going On” from 1957.

    When he was younger he used to kick the bench out the way and throw down on that piano standing up!!!!! I saw him when i was a kid at a festival with my parents and he did that and the crowd went wild!!!!! I was about 8, was my parents generation of music from the 50's.

    Saw him perform when he was in his 70s, and he was still great. Jerry Lee Lewis is another legend from Memphis’ Sun Studios. He, Johnny Cash, Elvis, and Carl Perkins were the so called “Million Dollar Quartet” at Sun. They all either happened to show up at Sun Studios one day or got a phone call from one of the other guys, and they started singing and playing together. Thank goodness someone recorded it. After Jerry Lee played the piano, though, none of the others wanted to follow.

    His first cousin Mickey Gilley was from Pasadena, Tx. Used to see him at a local bar called the Nesadel. sp. He is also a great piano player. He sang while playing the piano. You might recognize him from the the nite club Gilleys Club. Urban Cowboy, the movie was filmed there. John Travolta was the star.

    Jerry Lee Lewis grew up in Ferriday, Louisiana. Down the street from where he grew up, there was a black "juke joint" (like a small nightclub) and they played boogie woogie piano music and black blues. He would sometimes sneak off and peer through the window and watch the piano player. So, yes, his style of music was more of a boogie woogie genre.

    Jerry Lee was arguably the wildest, craziest, most controversial member of first ten acts inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and he's the only one still alive.
    He put an album out about 15 years ago, called "Last Man Standing", featuring a lot of famous 70s rockers, including Jimmy Paige. Jerry Lee's version of Led Zepps "Rock And Roll" featuring Paige on guitar, is just killer!
    Oh yeah! "The Killer" is one of Jerry Lee's nicknames.

    He was so great. There's a Jerry Lee Lewis Cafe downtown Memphis that is out of this world. Especially their barbecue sauce. I'll call the chef the barbecue man. He came out and I just wanted to thank him for the great barbecue and he gave me some to take that. That was awesome. And the guy that was playing Jerry Lee Lewis on the piano. Very vein and stuck on himself. But I like the music I danced. ❤️❤️❤️❤️👍

    My Favorite Artist... Belongs among the Rock & Roll Greats, like Elvis, Chuck Berry and Little Richard! His "Poundin' Piano," "Rock-A-Billy" style is Unique. If you liked this, check out, "Whole Lotta Shakin'," Drinkin' Wine (Spody-Ody)" and "Flip, Flop & Fly." To quote one of his Lyrics, "Think-About-It!!!"

  • @TheHeater90
    @TheHeater90 2 года назад

    The reason it's hard to identify the chorus is because this song adheres to the classic A/A/B/A standard type of song format, prominent in songwriting from about the 1910s or so through the 1960s. The A sections being the true choruses, with each of the 3 having different words, and the B section being the bridge, in this case, the "kiss me baby" part. This form generally takes 32 bars to complete, with each section taking up 8 bars each, but in this songs case, the bridge is extended by the breaks on the end of it, taking it from it's logical 8 bars to a total of 12 bars, however, the choruses or A sections are all the standard 8 bars each. On the original recording of this, and most subsequent live performances, the solos follow this same format/progression, but here in this clip, for some reason, the solos are extended into full 12 bar blues choruses/progressions. This was possibly done to make it easier for the many guest guitarists on this particular show.

    This was unheard of back then... with Jerry Lee Lewis .... Like Elvis they were friends but Jerry Lee and Elvis had their issues because JLL had a bad drinking problem .... and mouthy.... He'd drive up to Graceland drunk yelling for Elvis he'd send the boys out to get him to go home LOL ---- THIS IS FROM JLL OWN WORDS

    Very few of The Killers pianos survived his performances, not just the few he set on fire.
    Sadly as the others have this is him at an older age, not nearly as wild as usual. Need to find a clip from 50-60s

      Pianos definitely had a hard time surviving. Back in the 50s, he was drunk as was often typical for him. He was putting on his show at the San Antonio auditorium. During his performance he started kicking the hell out of a new grand piano the auditorium owned (large instruments like pianos typically were not owned by the musicians but instead by the venue). Anyway he kicked so hard, so much and so many parts of the piano, that the legs of the piano gave way and the piano crashed to the floor. Needless to say, the auditorium was very unhappy with The Killer. He was permanently banned from ever performing there again.
