This is meant to be a 2 hour special but yet it's only 1 hour 34 mins. Just goes to show how bad the advertisements are in America. Nearly 30 mins of adverts in a 2 hour show
Busses don't have roll cages like cars do. They would be too heavy. With the roof strength it's kind of an all-or-nothing deal. Either the roof can support the vehicle or it can't.
What people seem to forget: Dolphins are predators! Sure, they usually hunt smaller prey than sharks, but they hunt fish, crustaceans and squid. Sometimes even smaller birds. They also have 100 to 200 teeth and live in groups. So a dolphin is not a harmless animal, it is only harmless to humans, at least under normal conditions. But this also applies to sharks, which don't normally attack humans; if they do, it's more likely to be by accident (in a bloodlust or because they've mistaken a human for something else or because they were almost starving and there really is no better prey, so it's either that or starve to death). Divers who swim around sharks and pose no threat to them, nor get between them and their food, are rarely attacked by sharks unless they are bleeding. And A shark does not want to start a fight with a dolphin, as a dolphin can seriously injure a shark, and if a shark attacks a single dolphin, its entire group will come to its defense, as an attack on one individual is an attack on the group, but the shark has no backup, as other sharks couldn't care less, they will not come to its aid. Sharks are not afraid of dolphins but they do respect them and if there is a dolphin between them and their prey, they will not go for a fight unless they think they have to. It's like between a bear and a wolf. Sure, a bear can easily win against a wolf, but unless it feels it has to, it will avoid any fight. Mainly because attacking a single wolf means attacking its whole pack, and even a big bear has no chance against a whole pack of wolves. And a bear cannot know if that is a lonely wolf or a member of a pack. And since a wolf is no threat to a bear and also not a typical prey, why would the bear attack the wolf? Why would it take this risk? It would only do so if the bear had nothing to eat for a very long time and this wolf may be the only chance to survive the next couple of days or if the bear feels very threatened and thinks it must defend itself. In all other cases the bear will just leave the wolf alone and keep a reasonable distance in between them. And this also means not going for something that the wolf seems interested in, as that would also be an unnecessary aggression. The shark doesn't know why the dolphin hangs around with another animal, maybe it's prey, maybe it's a friend, but going after that animal surely is seen as an aggression by the dolphin and that's what the shark tries to avoid, it doesn't want to steer up an unnecessary conflict. Certainly not in a place full of other prey the shark can go after instead.
desperate starving wolf packs sometimes attack bears, but yeah only if they have to, to survive, seems like the only thing that is not yet mentioned here ^^
It's only a Shark 🤷🏻♂️ I really don't see the fear associated with them.. they're not the Human killing machines people think. I'd absolutely love to be in Jamies shoes there!
@@ashhawk2346You must not live near the coast lmao. A kid got eaten by a shark in my home town. Ever heard of Bull sharks? Come swimming here with the sharks and see how long you last 🤷♀️
@@AnNatie Yes, Bull sharks are renowned for their ability to try and eat anything.. but most sharks aren't going to attack a Human intentionally to eat them, so you're pretty safe. It's possible to swim with bull sharks too, but not recommended.
@@AnNatie75 million people go swimming in the ocean in the US alone per year. 10 people die of shark attacks per year. It's more likely to be struck by lightning (1 in 15,300).
I'm skeptical about how the dolphin one was tested, sharks have extremely keen sensors and hearing. A dolphin shaped object matching mechanical noise and having no natural communication or blood flow from the dolphic would seem abnormal to the shark so surely it would steer clear. I'm sure it would be like humans meeting a life-like robot, no matter how similar they look, you just have a feeling of wrongness'.
Dolphin thing is pretty easy to explain. Sharks are predators but they're not territorial. They're looking for a meal, not a fight. Presence of a dolphin, which can be quite vicious, means it's just not worth its time, especially since dolphins usually travel in groups.
What about WW2? Groups of Men in the water didn't have that affect on Sharks. They got eaten. The Shark is physically bigger than 1 Dolphin. It has an advantage but still it doesn't. ?
The biggest question is did the towel over the head help? LOL worked in trawlers many times been green once or twice but never threw up I feel so bad for Adan I have seen this first hand and know I have never felt that level of sick on the sea. I know, I feel the same way when they edit the technical conversations Adam and Jamie have, that's the downside of scientific content getting adapted for the general public, although I don't think the general public would actually complain about a little technical jargon.
And it appears that wasn't even the full thrust available since the pilot can be seen moving only the inboard (#2 & 3) thrust levers forward, and the jet blast also appears behind the two inboard engines.
It’s also amazing people think the condescended air they kick out is chemical spray 😂😂😂 nope it’s just hot condensed air hitting cold air and basically making cloud
It's never a guarantee that a dolphin will help you or the shark will leave you alone ( a different shark would have ripped it apart ) , like with all animals there is always that one that bites for no reason or the one that is friendly for no reason. just like humans, ez as that
Im sure there was a ton of blowback on the dolphin decoy bit, they should have put just a foam covered box with the same electronic and mechanical noises alongside the seal decoy because as a South African who swims in those waters I am almost convinced the noise and frequency of the mechanical tail has more to do with the deterence than the shape of the dolphin, or they should not have had any mechanisms on the dolphin to be more accurate
I expect that the sound isn’t much of a deterrent, considering the shark hit the target five feet from a moving motor boat, which is louder and more unnatural. Plus, they are more than happy to go after a 2D seal with no sound or smell. I think they aren’t that discerning.
Yeah I'm really upset with them for destroying a perfectly fine car that is not built any more. I'm also upset with the guy selling it to them, knowing what they are going to do with it. How can you do that!?

Yes, by that time it was no longer a myth. In fact, it never was. It had happened in Brazil with enough evidence to show it. By this time, Mythbusters was no longer about myths. It was about blowing up a massive budget, literally. So, when the viewers got tired of seeing explosions and expensive stunts by not being given the interesting myths which made the show great in the past, viewership dropped, the cast was reduced, the show eventually got killed altogether. Had Discovery played their cards right, they could've ended up with a smaller Top Gear/Grand Tour level of success.
Surprised an airport would allow the grass outfields to be strewn with debris and glass fragments from the bus & so forth. You wouldn't want any of that, no matter the size, to be blown by a storm or somehow or other to get onto a runway, abandoned or not. Doesn't seem the place for made-for-TV stunts.

Philosophical arguments over the possibility of one being able to perform a truely, "altruistic" act aside, I would like to think dolphins have an "altruistic" streak. For one reason, more than any other, I don't think this test of "altruism" is valid; and that is, the "dolphin". Did the shark see a dolphin or, did the shark see an object that was not neccesarily a dolphin, but an object that it didn't recognize, and therefore became unsettled by, its presence? No heart beat, no scent, it only floated, would have an unrecognizable sonar-type"return" (if sharks do that sort of thing, I'm not really sure), and had a mechanical "sound" that corresponded with a strange, flopping motion. That thing may have looked like a dolphin to a human, using the single sense of sight, but to a shark? And, dolphin are social mammals. Where are all his buddies, his family? Would the absence of a pod create an even more, unsettling environment? I am no shark expert by any stretch, but I would like to hear a shark expert weigh in. I mean, who wouldn't want to think those cute, seemingly grinning mammals would risk life, and fin to save a human? It's a great story that I, have also "seemingly" witnessed, in a whale that corralled a diver closer to her boat, as a shark wandered by without the diver knowing it was there until, it was seen while reviewing the video recordings of various, underwater cameras Regarding "altruism", and why I think the word deserves quotations; in humans it can be argued, true "altruism" is a philosophical impossibility, because there is always a benefit to an altruistic act even if, it is the feeling of pride over performing the act, itself. Therefore, I'm not sure how I would define the act of a dolphin threatening or, attacking a shark when a human is at risk of predation. We may be unaware of some benefit the dolphin or, his pod might recognize by seemingly, acting in a way that benefits a human.
