- I decided to test out 3 of the best dual action polishers for beginners. Two extreme value polishers... the Bauer from Harbor Freight, and the Maxshine M8S, as well as a staple in the detail industry the Porter Cable 7424xp. I compare size, weight, features, power, and performance to see which polisher you should get as a your first polisher OR as a great inexpensive back up option for the professional! ENJOY!!!

Thanks for the video.. For the value, I'd just skip the Bauer 8mm and get the 20mm long throw. Can be had on sale for 89 bucks. Add a maxshine or Torx 5" backing plate, regrease with some decent grease and you have a much better balanced and capable machine compared to the 8mm for just around 100 bucks.
I’ve always had the PC and Bauer as a back up along with a Milwaukee rotary. I picked up a Griots garage g8 and g13 combo recently on a killer sale. Saved $129 so it was a no brainer. Haven’t tried them out but I’ve heard so much hood about them and the lifetime warranty along with the price couldn’t pass em up
For beginners I can’t recommend the Pc highly enough. It won’t get you in trouble and is SO intuitive to use. I’m not sure you could even burn paint with it if you tried. Thanks for your videos Josh I’m a big fan.
Awesome job explaining ! Thank u. Love your videos.
Great comparison Josh, I have the porter cable unit, I’ve had it for about three years and has worked great but I only work on my own cars, thanks 👍😁
I have the Porter Cable 7424 and I like it so far.
The Porter Cable 7424XP was my first polisher. I used to polish cars by hand until my neighbor came over one afternoon with his Porter Cable Polisher and What took me four hours by hand, took him about 15 minutes. I knew it was a game changer. I now use the Rupes LHR-15, 5"Pads, Porter Cable 7424XP, 3" Pads, and The Rupes Ibrid Nano, 1" and 2" Pads. The Porter Cable is probably on its way to retirement but I do still use it.
So as a 1st timer would you recommend something cheaper or getting the rupes?
I have the Harbor Freight DA with a Meguiar's 5" backing plate. I also changed the grease in the head. The grease helped with the sound and the backing plate helped with the vibrations. I would say it's still behind the more expensive brands as far as vibrations, but if you are just starting or a DIY person, it's great.
Thanks for the info. Can I ask what type of grease you put in there instead?
Thanks a lot Josh for the info. As always 👍
Thanks for watching
Great comparison Josh. I cut my teeth on the 7424XP 9 years ago, and finally decided to upgrade to the MaxShine M15 (not the M15 Pro) this week. Used the M15 today and was super impressed. The 7424 XP just bogged down too much (stopped rotating) on even slight concave curves, glad that the M15 just breezed through these same curves without bogging down at al.
I have a m15 (non pro) as well! It’s my back olio now but it’s a great machine
My Porter Cable bogs down so easily, it's frustrating!!!
Have had the PC for a few years and no complaints from me!
Thanks! Buying the Maxshine. I appear to be spending more and more money with those guys.
Nice review
I think I’ll be getting that max shine with discount from u awesome 😎 🤙
I bought the Bauer from HF a while ago. I was skeptical and it’s the most money I’ve spent on a single item at HF. It sounds like there is something wrong with the unit you demoed. Mine doesn’t sound like a bag of marbles, but it does have a vibration much like you described. More than I would like. Mine is not nearly as noisy as the one you ran either. I haven’t looked to hard but the 6” pad is not industry “standard”. HF does sell pads, and I found their cheaper pads work better and last longer than the Bauer pads with the beveled edges. If I were to make this purchase again, based on what I’ve used and what you showed, the Maxshine tips in as a better value. Great review. Thanks for video.
Follow your instincts my friend. If it's not too late, I would return that thing because using a buffer is a much better experience than that Bauer.
@@larrydavisjwhat would you recommend for someone who wants to begin?
Thanks for the link. I ordered mine this morning and it’s already shipped.
Hope you enjoy it!
Have you reviewed any carpet cleaners? I hear the Bissell is a good entry level. Thanks.
Hi is this deal still on or gone ?
Really wishing I'd found you video sooner! It's really sad that the max shine has tripled in cost though . But hey your code still works that's something !
Man I’ve wanted that porter cable for a looooong time. Money was always tied up for other stuff. Love the review thanks!
👍👍
Thanks, that's was very helpful for me 👌
Great video Josh, this is my second time watching it. Lol!
I just don't see why he didn't use the 5" head on the Bauer as well. Great channel, learned so much.
max shine backing plates fit the bauer...I used that regreased it and it runs so smooth...no vibrations until it is slowing down after lifting your finger off the trigger.
I have the Maxshine...I have 5 inch pads and love it...I picked it up for $75. Most polishers are fine, it really comes down to technique and the type of pads you use.
👍👍
I purchased mines earlier today using your discount. I hope it comes in in time I have a couple of cara to polish this weekend.
Awesome! I mmm no ow they ship from California! Hopefully you’re not too far away
@@imjoshv I’m in Dallas, Tx. Hopefully.
Really a good presentation.
I just noticed that super clean on the shelf back there which only confirms deeper that you're a man of culture ;)
It's a bit blurry but it looks like you also have a container of their absorbent/sweeping compound and I was wondering if you'd had a chance to use it or what you think of it?
I love sweeping compounds for home and I really think there could be a niche for them in the detailing world, especially with the focus on removing dry dirt getting bigger.
I feel like a good value well performing sweeping compound could be a very very helpful game changer when it comes to absolutely filthy details where you have a lot of dust and dry dirt to clean up and don't want to just spread it all around. Not sure I'd be willing to use it on all surfaces but anything with rubberized mats or whatever may be a good candidate for a test.
Bought my first polisher today, the Bauer since for ITC Members, it was only $49. Started conservatively with 5" Chemical Guys orange medium cut with their P4 polisher, after clay bar. Not bad at all... easy enough to maneuver but does vibrate quite a bit; good enough for a beginner like me and can't complain about just spending $50. Now I have something to compare with when I get the itch to upgrade (which for me usually happens sooner than later.)
Yeah I picked one up for $49 to have as a back up for my Porter Cable 7424xp. It does ok as long as you don’t use the Porter Cable and switch immediately to the Bauer. The vibes are very pronounced if you do. The PC feels much more substantial and better built but it’s apples and oranges.
Great review! I have that Porter Cable as well and upgraded to the Maxshine 15mm Pro and love it. Where is the Maxshine store located?
Thanks for the good video!
Thank you for watching!
First time detailer and viewer. I was curious what was your opinion or if you have any information about the cordless orbital polisher. I'm not super big yet and just looking around for decent products for a fair price and take off from there. I was abusing a deal that Harbor Freights have and was curious if you will be able to do a video on their 20V Cordless 6 in. Compact Orbital Polisher/Buffer.
Been watching a lot of your videos and have been thoroughly pleased with all the information and product reviews you have been doing. Awesome work and hope to see much more of your content in the future.
Ayyyye!!!! AJ USA!
Jesse has been my boy for years!!!
He’s the man!
I feel so bad for anyone who already purchased the Bauer polisher. It's definitely a P.O.S just like all of their polishers. There are plenty of RUclips channels that have reviewed that thing.
The best bang for your buck in this group is Maxshine. That Bauer wouldn't even spin on one whilst spreading out the product. It stalls like a m'f'er!
So this is the first time I've watched one of your vids. I like it. Nothing fancy, keeping it real.
Bought mine 16 months ago to bring back the paint on a truck I bought and it gave it a mirror shine. Maybe I got lucky with mine but I’ve had no issues and it runs like a champ.
I got mine a year ago and bauer made the job for good for the price its great no complaint
I bought the Maxshine and was wondering your thoughts on the pads that comes with the kit.. Are they worth buying more and can you, as a professional detailer, rely on them on a day to day basis? I just need more pads to do an entire car so would love your insight. Also, are you sponsored by any manufacture, i.e. do they send you products for free to test or are do you pay for them? Really like your videos btw.
Might get the Bauer to polish my atv plastics.
Is the maxshine a forced rotation like a flex 3401? If not is there a budget version of one?
Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching
Do you have a recommendation for a cordless dual action, oscillating polisher. There's no way for me to be able to use a corded polisher because I'll be in direct sunlight. And must drive to a shaded area.
Great video, you sold me on the Porter Cable. I see why 10,000 detailers have purchased it. The defects shortcomings on the HF are understandable, how can they sell a high quality product that retails at $45
Any concerns about using the MAXSHINE polisher on a gel-coat RV?
Josh can't find your maxpolisher bundle with discount on the description below is it still available, would like to purchase. Thx Tim
Clicked the link to buy the Maxshine but it said that there was an error in the url or the page has been deleted. Then tried to find it in the polisher product list but they only had the M8S V2 for $129.99. Is the product no longer available?
Wondering the same thing
I finally bought my first polisher - went with the M15pro... I considered the Bauer (under $100!), but I've learned from 20 years of woodworking, I almost always regret "saving money" on really inexpensive tools.
BTW - the link for the M15Pro didn't work, but going directly to their website I was still able to use your discount code - thanks for that!
Josh, thanks for another great video. Curious what compound you recommend for paint that is showing some serious signs of oxidation? X OUT or 3D One? Thanks again.
Use Jescar compound...it really works awesome.
@@GSP-76 - Their entire line is really good.
Where to get a 5 and 3 inch hook and loop backing plate for my portal cable 7424XP DA with pads ? What AWG of extension cord do u use with the portal cable 7424XP ?
Wondering why the griots g9 isn't in this comparison? Or wud it be more of a enthusiast's polisher
I'm having problems finding a back plate 6 inch with a 9/16 thread size for my DA 7424 xp portal cable. Do u know where to buy them ?
just ordered mx shine and 3m 39003 finish polish ….. i don’t know if need another polish ie meguires 🤔
Hey Mac shine web says is missing link. Could you find out if is still available?? Ty
Time for a new/updated video because those Harbor Freight DA polishers are not going for almost $100! No longer a budget option if it means spending $50 more for a solid brand name.
I noticed on the second go around you didn’t put any additional product on the porter cable. The other two polishers you added three drops of product. Could that have been why the porter cable did so poorly? Also where’s the best place to purchase the pads and do you prefer a certain brand?
Chemical guys 🫢
Josh Thanks for the great video. Want to order the MaxShine M8S. Where is the discount code Located. I paged to the bottom but do not see it. Thanks once again
👍 Glad you found it!!
Which buffer would you purchase to buff?A diamond plate tool box. Please comment back thank you
Great video! What year is your fairlane? My dad had 3 different 1968’s when we were little. Awesome cars!
Mine is a ‘69
@@imjoshv beautiful car bud
Dont u spray something on the pad with the product before applying on the car body ?
The maxshine links and coupon code are no longer working.
Btw how is the m1000 ?
I use the $50 Black and Decker you can get off Amazon
I really enjoy your videos on auto detailing. I tried the link for the M8S bundle and it doesn't work. Too old I guess. It is now over $200 so I will have to look for something else. Any thoughts?
They have a m8s v2 on their website
What?! Max Shine, the company that’s giving him affiliate money for everyone that uses his code, gave him a tour of their company, and gave him tons of free product, won the comparison challenge!! That’s crazy!!
money. he dont want to lose their money. i dont take his reviews seriously
I'm a novice. I have a new portal cable 7424XP DA. Where do u suggest for me to get a 5 and 3 inch back plate and pads from ? Also what gage or awg wire do u use as far as extension cord ?
Do you even detail? Have you ever used Maxshine products? They are a solid company-who cares if they sponsor him!?!?! What “you-tube influencer” in any industry isn’t sponsored or affiliated?! It’s a sign of the times….don’t hate-congratulate!
While I enjoy the sarcasm and encourage it to the fullest, objectively they are all the f'ing same thing just different color plastic bodies. Any one of these will be perfectly fine for anyone to use
Yes they are rebranded motors in different bodies.
Is the bundle sale over?
What’s the best DA or ur fav no matter the cost?
2nd just order one with code thanks for the info
Anytime! It’s a fantastic deal for a powerful little machine
Zota 15mm is tough to beat imo. Just replace the cheap grease that comes in it..I've put mine through the ringer.
1. After listening to this whole video it sounded as though you wanted to like the Maxshine the most from the beginning.
2. If you are testing all polishers as they come, you should have used the 6” pad on the Bauer. You can only say the Bauer did not do as well as the Maxshine using an incorrectly fitted pad; which could’ve effected the Bauer’s speed, vibration, overall effectiveness as designed.
Oh, I’m still considering which polisher I want to buy.
The maxshine is defintley the most powerful of these. The Harbor freight though is an amazing value. By changing to a smaller backing plate that actually increase the rotations and gives the 5" pad more polishing power. I do agree though that it could effect the balance. The bauer is heavier as well, but if youre just working on your own cars the bauer is probably a great fit! Value is amazing for sure.
Josh, I'm confused about All in One's having wax in them. If you're going to use a DA to polish, aren't you going to IPA after and then put a coating on making the wax pointless?
Yes correct, under normal circumstances you’d just do the all in one. Since I was testing them to see the results I did the panel wipe just to get a clear view of who the winner was.
I am not sure if this video was supposed to compare the 3 polishers. it is so obviously a continuous ad for maxshine, and you did not hide it in any way (props), that I stopped watching after 1:17, and just went down to harbor freight and bought the bauer. thank you. btw, I did not know you surf, and that you are local to me! respect!
The bauer is hard to beat for the price to value!!!
Can you please send me the first machine link? thank you.
I remember when harbor freight sold that same polisher under a different brand for $39 it was a good deal I would never buy this polisher at $79
Chicago electric was the brand name
Shipping is free in America or Shipping to Trinidad is also free
i've got a variable random orbital sander. will that work for polishing windshields?
Yea it should
what do you think of chemical guysTORQX
Have you ever tried this, BLACK+DECKER 6-inch Random Orbit Waxer/Polisher (WP900) for $37, a detailer guy said this is all a DIYer needs, just don't use the crap pads it comes with.
Wish you would have shown amp draw.
I have the Bauer and I hate how much it vibrates. Kills my hands to use it
Great catch lol
Ha thanks. I slipper box I guess haha
Happened as I read this!
Out of all of them which one better?
The maxshine has the most power and got the best results
Buying a polisher today. First one besides a $60 random Amazon one. Out of all polishers out there, what’s a great beginner polisher , yet will last for awhile? Preferably under $200 for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Was looking at Adams Swirl Killer, or a Max Shine 15mm polisher. Anyone have a preference?
I use the maxshine m15pro everyday in my business and absolutely love it!! If you buy it here

and use my code imjoshv15 you’ll get 15% off
after 8 months the max shine bundle is now 206.93 just a fyi , bummer
Should have used the same backing plate on all 3
that harbor freight sounded like tha pistons were swapin holes.
The Bauer DAs use a cheap Chinese grease I use the 20mm Bauer DA. I replaced the backing plate with a rupees backing plate n cleaned out the factory grease n replaced it with sun Lucas lithium grease n man a huge difference I use it for my detail buisness
Awesome good to know
@@imjoshv it’s actually balanced better wit the rupees backing plate as well
The maxshine bundle is now $206 on their website. Was it really $89 just 8 months ago?
Yea, sleepy Joe kinda messed that up for everyone
@@coreyalexander4766 idiot
Max shine is double the price at the time of this video...
Anyone use the Torqx DA? I have for a while and get pretty great results out of it.
Did someone already win?
Use 3m perfect it compound and polish
Running the wrong size pad on the Bauer is really quite unfortunate. For one, the tool is balanced to a different size pad in terms of weight so that will add vibration. Two, you most likely did not center the pad perfectly, which of course can cause added vibration. Lastly, because the pad size is different than the backing pad, and different from the other 2 tools your results will be completely skewed as the energy transfer is not the same. So just in terms of fairness, the entire test is really quite invalid.
Also, seems a bit biased to compare a special sale price for the Maxshine and not even mention that the Harbor Freight polisher is frequently on sale anywhere from $39.99 to $59.99, depending on the specific sale.
They want $207 for the maxshine kit, for that money ill get a G9 bundle.
should have tightened the head on the bauer to make it fair
I have rupes, adams, and chemical guys buffer
The m8s is now $200....
Wich better
HEY BUDDY. YOUR CODE IS NOT WORK. ACTUALLY THE POAHGE IS NOT COMING UP
I thought the video was 2 months old, but it is 2 years old. Wasted my time. The polisher is $195.00, not the 77.00. 😢
Last time I polished something I didn't use the box. The box doesn't polish anything. So why do you spend so much time showing the box and why do you spend time putting the things on a scale. Just tell us what the weigh. I didn't stick around long enough to find out which polisher was any good.
Looks like harbor freight won easily to me.
It's amazing, the one from the company who he has a deal through won, never saw that one coming. What a load of crap.
Hi greg, I do have friends at Maxshine but only provide unbiased reviews. I actually get approached by a lot of companies to make a review videos about a certain item and I always tell them if it’s good I’ll do a video but if it’s not, I typically just won’t say anything about it cause although I want to help people I also don’t want to hurt a company so I’ll just opt to not say anything positive or negative about it
@@imjoshv I just find it hard to believe this video was unbiased when you say at the beginning of the video that you just got back from the Maxshine offices recently, you said that another Maxshine polisher is you go to polisher, you used the Maxshine compounds and pads, and people can get a discount on the Maxshine polisher used in this comparison if they enter in your Promo Code, which I'm guessing you get a cut of.
Even if this was truly unbiased, it sure seemed like a Maxshine advertisement to me.

I’m new to car detailing, doesn’t anyone do hand waxing and polishing these days?
No, it's too time consuming and your hand get perform like an electric machine. Hand polishing generally isn't going to be able to get out swirl marks
Why you us black alone please show a different color
Ouch. Looks like that Maxshine bundle is going for over $200 now. The Bauer and Porter-Cable are the same price so it's not even a Bidenflation thing.
Yeah, that bundle was a good deal at $89. Ridiculously better options in the $200 range. Sponsored or not, there is clearly some back and forth with that company. Tell them to bring back the $89 dollar deal! I'd like to have one as a backup.
Somebody understands🙌🏻
The V2 kit is still a killer deal with Josh’s code tho
NOTHING is more annoying than a commercial while trying to watch a video.... I understand supporting the channel.... but Damn man
