I spent 3 weeks with Robert and Sarah in Alaska . I stayed in this cabin , and I will be doing a full review In the next few weeks. I miss this place and them , wounder people , wonderful location, great hospitality... I truly feel like this is my second home. Please be warned !!!!, this cabin , history , and land is addictive.. ever since I left l , all I want to do is go back. Living in Florida for the last 21 years, waking up and seeing that mountain every morning was such a site to behold . This experience is something that will stay with me for the rest days with heart felt longing to return.

Wow, super cool! Looks really nice and bright inside. Jim always had it dark it seemed, except the kitchen/table area. So much looks the same, I almost expect to see Jim walking around cussing bears or humans, but I notice the changes it looks good! I remember the gun rack was loaded too! I like the upgrades to the trappers cabin, that's where I would stay. The first time I was there, Jim was "living" in the trappers cabin and it was interesting sleeping 5 feet away from him.

This area is beautiful. it was the first place we looked at when we started to look in Alaska. Fell in love with it and made offer on the spot. Then we found out about the history. lol

We remember Jim and Nancy from the show. It was amazing how much he could accomplish even without his hand. Sad to hear they have both passed. Amazing to see the transformation of their property. I always thought it was one of the neatest properties on the show. The show is on discovery+ that's where my husband and i found it.

@curmudgeinnak my husband and I are both disabled combat Veterans. We were discussing a nice two week vacation in a cabin with some "gods dam peace and quiet"...lol. He works full time and I have been concentrating on getting our home possible to sell. Minnesota is beautiful but I'm tired of the politics. I grew up in the south, and very country. I fish, hunt, worked as a diesel mechanic in military and oil field, ran a school bus shop. I worked as an engineer. Unfortunately my shoulders are worn out, and I'm going through the "oh shit I'm 51" realizing life is getting shorter. But, I'm always out in the woods or fishing, gardening and building things or I go crazy. Most hate winter here, but I love it!

we still have stations in indiana and chicago where you have to push a button at the shelter to get the train to stop. that or you better be waving on the platform at the conductor.

Ive been to alaska and am coming again but on a cruise and that is cheating i know. Anyways i will keep watching but i dont think those rentals are for me and my wife, but they are really nicely done.

@@curmudgeinnak My little home isn’t much bigger than Ms Jane’s, and it’s not classified as a “tiny home”, but it’s only 770 SF With the (living room) room addition… and I don’t actually have any actual closets! So it’s a huge downsize for me… I relocated from relatively excruciatingly hot summers of SoCal and barely 2 actual “seasons,” and almost 1200SF… … to a place that starts winter in October-ish, but has all 4 seasons and is small with no closets! Go figure, LOL!
@@bernadetteevans2 I went the opposite way. I lived on my sailboat with no real storage to a 1969sqf house with two other cabins on property. Good thing. I built a huge closet for Sarah.
@@curmudgeinnak Well I was renting in California and after my husband was Promoted to Glory in 2018, as a Home Health Aide I had started taking care of my dad who passed away almost 3 years ago, he left us kids and grandkids a little nest egg, and I bought this fixer-upper home and left Southern California… it really was my late husband’s dream and wish for me to get out of California… just took me a little while longer to figure everything out… and I’m STILL trying to figure it all out… a few months ago the arthritis started exacerbating and in mid-July I tripped and fell over a cat and broke my ankle in 3 different places-requiring surgery… still recovering and relearning to walk on my R ankle…

In the cabin the curtain allows the warmth of the fire to keep the pipes from freezing and it was what was in the cabin when we got here. The main house that we live in I did it like that with the burlap material keep it covered until I get a chance to mill a lot of wood to build doors. It was a cheap easy way to keep the dogs from sticking noses in things. :-). I will let mom know you said that. :-). Have an amazing weekend.
We are always outside in summer and all the commotion tends to keep the bears away. They are pretty shy critters. In all the years that this property has been established no bear has left it's mark on the buildings. In the bush of Alaska everyone is always armed.

The one question I have is how close is that stovepipe to the brace that is on the wall?
About 18" and it is double walled pipe on the lower and then goes into the SS double wall insulated pipe.
