Nice picking. I have a couple of them. They good little picks. When my woman is shopping I sit in the car picking my Abus padlocks. Hate shopping. If its lock shopping. That's another story.LOL. Thanks...
I saw the thumbnail and was coming into this video to curse how much pressure you were putting on that tension wrench, thinking you'd gone mad! What I found was a beautiful wrench. Went to their site to find £15.99 for the 6 piece pry bar set is a steal. Think I'm going to order some of those.
+Lock Noob Already done. Also picked up the Mad Bob Carbon Fibre Jack Knife.. A friend of mine locked herself out her house last week. I had to travel a 20 mile round trip to grab my tools to pick my way into her place. If I had one of those on my keys I'd of saved time and fuel. I'd reccomend you grab one if you havent yet.
Bosnianbill actually reviewed the SouthOrd Jackknife. He says there's too many useless picks on there. Multipick appears to have the exact same picks too. Same design also. It's almost like they took a half a Jackknife factory each and plastered their names on the same model. I went for Mad Bob's version because of the picks you are given; a proper half diamond, 2 hooks, a bogota, city rake and an S rake. All useful in their own respect. The whole Jackknife also just looks more robust and better quality. The other 2 have a weakly cut half diamond. Plus a deforest, and key extractor pick replaces the Mad Bob's 2nd hook and bogota... That's the deal breaker personally for my own use. Plus another good pointer, if you ever get stopped by the law, it doesn't look like you're actually carrying round an actual swiss army or Stanley knife. EDIT: Although the Carbon Fibre is now out of stock. Looks like I got in there just in time. Still 9 pre-orders available on the standard. Although there's a typical 5 week wait.
Picked my first Abus a couple of days ago, a titalium 64/50. I felt like a real lock picker after getting my feet wet with master locks and then moving on to a real lock.
Yes titanium and aluminium. The 64TI/40 has a paracentric keyway which makes it more tricky. If you do not have one, you might like the contrast of having both.
Thanks, LN. Still haven't picked my two 64TI/40's, but I've been trying to pick them 'wrong' way up. Both are rakeable, although one is much more reluctant than the other. Shall try your ideas, since the only difference between this and mine seems to be 4 pins instead of 5.
These low end range Titaliums can be really tricky ;), nice job Lock Noob. They have the best tolerances on their normal pins I came accross in this price range. Titalium is just an "innovative aluminum alloy" as Abus states, so basically a very hard alloy. There should not be titanium inside (to my knowledge... probably silicium and magnesium), Ti stands for titans, so the big guys...is meant to mirror the strenght/resistance of the lock...just some marketing ;).
Interesting stuff regarding the alloy composition Foxxy, thanks. It feels nice at any rate. It's actually quit an annoying little lock to pick and I'm a bit disappointed that I have a weak pin 1 that over-sets so readily : (
Try to get that nasty WD40 out of the lock (this lube is gumming up). I would even try to wash it in warm water and then, after a good dry, lube it with sewing machine oil or Ballistol (that's what I'm using to get old locks working). The normal pins on these are very easy to overset, makes them a little tricky ;).
Can I ask why pin 4 looks as if it needs little pressure to set just by looking at the key? It could have a short key pin which would need extra lift to set.
CHOPERUS23 the 4th cut on the key is very deep, a ‘low’ cut. This means the key pin associated with cut 4 will be a long key pin and therefore won’t need much lifting to set the driver pin in chamber 4 :-)
Got this padlock also, but my bidding is from the bottom. Very high, very low, very low, very high. Picked it plenty of times but as you said. At least mine are harder then it does look like. My Abus 65/50 & 65/40 & 85/50 amongst a handful of other Abu’s seam more easy to pick 😀 might depend on the biddings of mine though.
I'm a much better picker, now. Most Master Locks melt in my hands, now. Some Abus, too! But, this particular Abus is a bugger! Too much tension, pins are jammed. Too little tension, pins move freely, no binding. I've raked, spp, bitch, ripped, even threw it out the window! Still, it won't open. Time to move on, for now 😢

Great vid, Abus are a nice locks to pick. Thumbs up.
Thank you 🙏

Lol, do it, they're lovely. Have a look at my review vid too!

+Saracen26 good idea, I was thinking about a jackknife at some point and was torn between multi pick, Southord and mad bobs

+Saracen26 thanks, dude, that's great info, I'll definately check out the mad bobs ones then : )

Great video I have been trying to get that lock open for quite some time. Thanks for the video great job on the open!

Thank you 😊

Go for it!

+redcatimaging thanks I'll try that!
Might have missed you mention this.. do the 54/64 40s have safety pins?

Where do you get mad bob tension tools like that? I can't find them?
Is it light tension you use.
I open that lock nearly every time ...but other locks give me problem. Is it a easy lock ???
Got this padlock also, but my bidding is from the bottom. Very high, very low, very low, very high. Picked it plenty of times but as you said. At least mine are harder then it does look like. Yes, can all be very bitting dependant :-)
This lock is so easy to rake. BUT, how come its so hard to pick??
Over 500 videos later, I can say that it’s not that hard a pick, it’s just the small keyway that makes it hard :-)
I have one these and can open it using very light tension and gently stroke / rake the pins with my short hook. Not really SPPing however ☺
Not SPPing, but raking is such good fun, isn't it! :-)
I'm a much better picker, now. Most Master Locks melt in my hands, now. Some Abus, too!

Most small and quality keyways are a pain!👍
I agree. I have som 20mm Lockwoods that are really, really tough to pick lol :-)
I have just got this same lock but 50mm. I have opened it once but it was just pure luck.
Keep picking until you can do it over and over 👍
