Hey Ross, glad you found our channel! We have just a really basic set up, we got a region free player locally here in Australia for about $100 AUD. It's the Laser Blu BD3000. Kind of cheaply made but we've had the same player for a long time now with no issues so it's worked well for us. We haven't been able to upgrade our sound system as of yet but we're planning on getting a whole new set up when we're able to move in to a new place sometime next year. How about yourself, what's your set up at the moment?
@@amateurfilmies8844 Cool, a good player and TV are all you really need, but last year I completed a long time dream and turned our garage into a small home cinema! Nothing too expensive/extravagant and I did all the work myself so pretty proud of it. Epson projector, 100" 16:9 fixed screen, Panasonic UB420 player, Denon X4500 receiver and KEF Q speakers. Even added some KEF ceiling speakers a few months ago, so it's 5.1.4 for Dolby Atmos. It does feel like a small cinema, but I still like real cinemas as well and hope Covid doesn't cause too much trouble especially for the independent places.
Yeah The Fisher King was a great watch, was so glad to finally see that one. Criterion are definitely one of our favourite blu-ray labels for sure. Cheers for watching Tony!
Wonderful variety of films here guys. I love how eloquently you talk about each one. Diabolique is a fantastic film. Can't wait for the Vinegar Syndrome haul vid! :)
Thanks heaps Bryn, we appreciate it! Diabolique is up there with Eyes without a Face for me, such a creepy classic. Hopefully we can get the video out soon, very excited to show off what we picked up. Thanks for watching!
I'm not sure sorry, I think they sometimes coincide with other Criterion sales (like when Barnes & Noble/Amazon run their own sales). I know they do that with Arrow sales for example, they're currently running the Shocktober sale on their website as well. If Zavvi Criterions aren't on sale, you can also check out Amazon Australia since they've started listing UK items on there as well. If you have a prime membership and spend over $49 AUD you even get free expedited shipping. Definitely worth looking into!
Another fantastic video. I've shared it on my Twitter. My evening movie tonight will be 'Diabolique' as I have heard about it before but your video really made me want to check it out.
Hey guys. It's great that you have your own little criterion collection :) !. I do have some but Criterion is quite an expensive label so i don't buy them very often.
Thanks mate! We are really happy with our current collection, but I get that they aren't the most affordable releases out there, that's why we always stick to sales.
Excellent haul guys! I echo Matt's thoughts that Rushmore is Wes Anderson's best film, either that or Moonrise Kingdom. Henri-Georges Clouzot has been described as the French Hitchcock, which accounts for his ability to ratchet up the tension in his films, highly recommend checking out Wages of Fear by him👍 Badlands is great, but my favourite Malick is Tree of Life, followed closely by Days of Heaven (both gorgeously photographed films)
Thanks Sam! Glad we're in agreement about Rushmore! I didn't realise that Clouzot had that title, but it is fairly evident in his film. Thanks for the recommendation, it's got an amazing rating so we might have to investigate it. Tree of Life is the first Malick film I remember hearing about but I have never seen it, we might pick it up in the next Criterion sale. Thanks for watching :)
Sword of Doom sounds great!! Be interesting to see it for the content it covers!! Im watching the Arrow video release of Yakuza Law... wow ultra blood thirsty 👍👍 i have the life aquatic but have yet to watch it, loved Bottle Rocket! and you are right about the ending 👍👍great haul 😎👌👌
I've heard pretty brutal things about Yakuza Law! Definitely watch The Life Aquatic, even if it's just for the amazing set. I like the ending to Bottle Rocket even if it isn't the most satisfying. Thanks so much for watching our video :)
Unfortunately, I was unable to buy the Criterions I wanted. Maybe I'm too selective. I feel like Wes Anderson was created by Criterion to make films, as the two seem to go hand-in-hand. I'd love to own Rushmore, especially since I still have the original DVD release. I first watched it when I was around the same age as Max while suffering similar social hang-ups. Badlands is fantastic and there's never been a better depiction of a sociopathic couple on screen. Quick question, and this is a little off-topic, but you have ever shopped at wowHD.com.au?
What that because of the nature of shipping? Or you just decided not to get them? And yeah it really feels like Anderson is the perfect fit for Criterion’s look. It must have been interesting to see someone going through the same experiences as you as a teen, it definitely helps with the relatability. I feel as though Badlands walked so Natural Born Killers could run, although that wouldn’t be the most apt comparison. And we’ve never bought off there before, have you had any experience with it?
@@amateurfilmies8844 I'd say a combination of both, but Zavvi didn't have what I was after which was Haxan and Mikey and Nicky. I've placed one with wowHD, but with the delays due to COVID-19 it hasn't arrived yet; but so far so good. It's an Australian based site and the prices change according to the exchange rate and shipping is free. You only pay the import tax.
That's a smart way of acquiring Criterion editions in a way that doesn't hurt your wallet. We rarely pay full price for them out of financial responsibility lol. Thanks for watching!
We're in Australia and use a cheap region free blu-ray player called the Laser BD3000 that we bought from JB HI FI I believe (could have been Officeworks though). Not sure about other models sorry, we've only ever owned the one model. I tend to look on the boutique blu-ray subreddit for recommendations if that helps!
There are lots of good inexpensive blu-ray players now - you can't go wrong with any of the Panasonic models but I recommend the Panasonic DP-UB450 which will also play 4K discs.
Diabolical is a great fun film but keep away from the remake with Sharon stone 😬 punch drunk love is brilliant and love Adam Sandler in dramas as I think he can be a great actor, but saying that I do love some of his earlier comedy’s too. Wes Anderson is very hit and miss and lots of his films I find are very surface level only, but I do enjoy watching them and grand Budapest being my favorite. Badlands I love and one of Terrence Malick‘s Best, he has made some terrible films The last 5 to 10 years unfortunately. Great haul and will keep a eye out for your next.
Thanks for the advice haha the reviews don't look to good on that remake. And I agree, Adam Sandler's earlier works are great, The Wedding Singer is my favourite movie of his. I get what you mean about Wes Anderson being surface level, there's an element of that to some of his movies. And I can't say I've heard too much about Malick's recent films, they're probably not as memorable as his earlier works. Thanks very much for watching
Amazing video as always :) I loved seeing your new Criterions. So many of my favourites mentioned in there!
Thanks heaps Elliot, we love the range that Criterion puts out, there's a movie there for every mood.
Great video, guys. Badlands is indeed Malick’s debut, and one of my favourite films.
Martin Sheen, one of the greats.
Thanks Mark :) it's such an impressive film to start on. Thanks as well for watching our video
Sheen really is iconic. Such a versatile actor.
Great video! I always get some good ideas for films I need to check out from you guys.
Thanks for the compliment Bethany! I hope you find some that you like from this video! Cheers for watching :)
Hi, just found your channel. What do you use to watch your movies? Always interested in people's setups, no matter what they're like.

Hola, saludos desde México (from México). Cómo cuidan sus criterion collection de cartón?
Hi there! We usually keep our editions in protective plastic sleeves that we buy in bulk off eBay. Hope this answers your question 😊
@@amateurfilmies8844 muchas gracias.

Awesome Video you two!!! I love rushmore and feel like it gets so much hate and is underrated at the same time! lol
Thank you! Yes Rushmore is Anderson's underrated gem in my opinion, so low key compared to his other works
Great pick ups!
Thanks Dave!
I've been getting into classic and western Criterions. They are pricey but I tend to get 3-6 every few months or so when they are on sale.
That's a smart way of acquiring Criterion editions in a way that doesn't hurt your wallet. We rarely pay full price for them out of financial responsibility lol. Thanks for watching!
Can someone suggest me a good midrange Blu-ray player to watch these criterion and blueray films on it... As I'm totally new on this .. plz
