I took my Chanel to a Beyoncé concert, people kept looking at my bag so I told my friend I felt uncomfortable. my friend (also black like me) knows it’s authentic and direct from Chanel (she was with me) but she said I shouldn’t worry because people may think it’s fake due to where we are. I was like wth. I realised WHERE you carry your bag does actually matter.
Thanks to Dior, they made me realize it really costs $57 to make a $2800-$3000 bag. LOL $280 for a $9000 sweater. I won't ever be buying designer luxury ever. Anyone who owns a designer bag, I see those bags worth $57 whether, its LV, Dior, Chanel, or Hermes. Everyone carrying a designer bag is carrying a $57 bag.

I saw a person say his job was to cut off the tags of a $3.00 t-shirt and then put in a nicely branded box and they were put in boutiques for $60.00 a t-shirt. Plain jane white t-shirt. It was all in the packaging. There are so many small business leather bag makers that do quality work for a lot less; however, brand is sometimes important to people. Great video.
I would prefer a *esluxy* - a copy of a design I like but without the branding which would make it a replica. When you look at the jaw-dropping greed of these luxury brands coupled with a growing contempt for their customers, their appalling behaviour is a a terrible role model for society. They could clean up their act by making bags with realistic price tags.

The *esluxy* looks still good and 1/10 the price of real one. So many people will choose fake. Since during u walk in mall or on the street no1 will stop u and check ur bag from 5cm distance to see these differences. These differences are mostly impossible to see from more than 1-2m away. And be honest. 95% of these people buy these stuffs only to pretend fancy,rich during a walk
This is unspoken fact for many years now. How many luxury brands and items have superior quality? It's just the branding and potential higher resale value that attract consumers.
It was well-known. Italian television found the very low production cost of a Moncler puffer in the documentary siamo tutti oche - report. You can still find some video of this on RUclips. They also found out that illegals Chinese workers were producing Gucci goods in sweat shops in Italy. Or the scandal with Louis Vuitton making their shoes for cheap in Romania and then send them in Italy where they only put the sole to have the made in Italy label.
Fake ones have come a long way...I have an "NF" and it passes all your tests, stitching the package, lettering, etc. I don't think your old fake is a good example. Besides, there are *esluxy* that are very cost-effective and they deserve to be seen.

LVMH is so responsible for destroying fashion art and culture, these various creative directors are just like department heads , all under single corporation. Fashion used to be independent designer's creative journey. Now is only merchandise like bags and t shirts.

I bought a replica of a Chanel brooch for $20 to compare materials etc. The real brooch cost $800 and was made of the exact same materials - brass, synthetic pearls, glass. The other one is a $40 one *topluxs* Backpack Replica - also works for Compare - I can't find any difference and still use it for the gym.

I recently went to a Loro Piana store in Italy and looked at a pair of white shorts that seemed to be made out of cotton/ linen. I looked at the price tag and it cost over 1100 euros. No matter how premium the material might be, it couldn't possibly justify this price tag. To me this is just pure greed. I don't think I will ever buy from LP especially after learning more about their scandals afterwards
I have a Reissue Calfskin Mini in a Classic Medium/Large and for me it's perfect size, low profile and softness for my daily use. I have a classic large because I love the construction and because it is roomy but I never wear it in Australia because I have never seen it and I find it too "flashy" but in Europe it is perfect *HOTDUPS*
I have never been concerned about if others have fakes and replicas, unless they are trying to pass them off as real to sell them. I also don’t think replicas and dupes are that horrible as they push brands to be innovative (the classic monogram print was created in part to fight off counterfeiting) which benefits us as design lovers.I guess I can understand folks not wanting the same bag as others, but if it’s a good *jklux* it would make sense that more people would want it, authentic or not

I know wealthy women who carry replicas. The main reason they gave is that they just understand the value of money and don't want to spend too much money on bags... so more people choose fashionable*preluxz* bags. However, they do spend a lot of money on fine jewelry and other things.
High fashion brands stopped to be luxurious when globalization started in the late 90s. They started to mass-produce and cut some procedure of fabrication to provide the high demand from China. That's also what Tom Ford said.
I think in part, the younger generation is not as interested in "luxury brands" and care more about repurposing, shop your closet, and simple living. I read where Tiffany brands are losing sales as the new generation sees it as dated for generations in the past.
In the young generation, you find the higher number of customers of luxury brands. All these teenagers with Celine or Palm Angels t-shirts, Stone Island Jackets or Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Prada bags...

How is this a surprise? Sweatshops and labor exploitation have been around for hundreds of years. My mother worked in a sweatshop jn NYC for 15 years. She was paid a nickel to a quarter for sewing parts of a wardrobe. She worked 12 hours day, 7 days a week. These sweatshops were all over NYC from 1980’s to 2000. They exploited immigrants. The world didn’t talk about it because there was no internet and the clothing brands were not LV and Chanel.

When people say “are we really surprised?” and other sentiments like this…I don’t think it’s a statement on how up to date we are on current events. Rather, I think the statement expresses a specific worldview - a worldview that believes all of capital productivity is built on corruption and exploitation. Obviously I can’t speak for everyone, but it’s more like saying “exploitation is built into our economic-political systems so this should have been assumed” and less saying “why are you just finding this out now?”
I am still going to use my Balenciaga and Dior items because they are quite old and I like using them. Will I buy more? Probably not but that remains to be seen. My advice would be, make sure you buy things you really like and will use because no brand is “safe” from these type of scandals.

Yep, I've always gone for vintage pretty much and if I buy new it's lesser known brands like Costume National on sale, or really unknown ones. For me it's been fun and while I admire to an extent what others have, I don't decide my friendships based on what people own or what they look like. I would find owning some things to be limiting. I enjoy the creative side of fixing altering and styling. I don't care about prestige so much as value and the aesthetics. I almost bought a preloved Fendi peekaboo and then realised it was way too small and that was it. If we aren't supporting local artisans on a decent wage what the heck are we doing is my perspective.

Of course, the price of many luxury products is not worth such a high price, but only the brand premium, perhaps the cost of producing these luxury goods only needs one twentieth of his selling price or less
I have never bought Balenciaga and never will.I have 7 Dior bags and will enjoy them but will not buy more.I was looking at The Caro quite seriously but it's off my list now. Not vey ethical of Loro Piana. I only have a blouse a scarf and a skirt and the feel is sublime but I really don't like hearing they are taking advantage.I think I will be happy with what I have for now.I would consider selling some bags to simplify but the resale market is currently not very good so I will wait.I think I will also be putting the brakes on spending.Thank you for the video,I always enjoy watching.
I’m in a very similar headspace, was about to buy a new bag from LV when the dior scandal hit. I have been collecting since 2005. And while I always knew the margins on these bags were huge, I was prepared to pay a premium for a bag made ethically in an atelier of some sort, in Europe. Now, I’ve realised it’s all made in sweatshop conditions. So I will not give these people one more cent of my money. Going to enjoy the old pieces I own and continue to wear them, but if I have to buy new I’ll be looking at the new luxe brands like Polene , Songmont , Cuyana or Demellier etc

I dont see why people should throw away their money because of a scandal. Just wear it. When you buy a designer brand you're paying for the brand/status. That's really what it comes down to.
That’s why I always support second hand stores online and in person because there is no way I’m paying full price knowing very well it costs nothing for them to make them , or even don’t buy designer at all because for what all that logo mania obsession is just …. 😅it kills the elegance in every product seeing all the logo all over it .. I am not willing to buy designer anymore when I can get the exact same or similar style and maybe better quality for a smaller price. I am not willing to put money into luxury brands anymore if they are here to push some sort of fake diversity and fake environmental agenda. Also, paying them to pay the untalented movie stars big money to market it. I don't care about those. I just care that they make high quality products with great customer service.
I owned Balenciaga. I purchased mine before all the scandal happened. I stopped wearing it since the scandal came out. Last year I started wearing it again. It’s not the consumers fault. They should fire the creative director. I’m not in the position to just get rid of staff. I worked hard. I won’t be buying Balenciaga anymore. Thank God. I don’t own Dior.
There's a psychological side to it. I can confirm the feeling just isn't the same when you're unpacking a dupe, compared to an authentic, handcrafted piece. For me, its like a journey; opening the package, then the box, taking off the paper, layer by layer, smelling the leather... Ahh, you just CAN'T beat that! Last week I was shopping on Bond Street in London and nearly every luxury clothing store I peeked into was empty…until I got to Hermès, which was SO crowded! They put people into an electronic queue and send an SMS when the SA is available.

Had a neighbour who had an insane collection of couture clothes and bags. She showed me the newer vs the older items, even Is, not having an eye for haute couture and luxury brands could see Louis Vuitton and Chanel had degraded their quality standards. It just looked cheaper.

To me what turned me off luxury brands is knowing that they use slave labor like any other fast fashion brand. Their leather does not come from organically and pasture raised cattle with local artisans getting fair wage, no, it comes from Italian slave market where mostly African refugees get their fingers cut off and no toilet breaks to increase profit for the brands. I am looking for information where the material comes from, are they certified and yes, that's still not a guarantee that the company is 'ethical' or just 'sustainable'. Because, as I learned, while 'ethical' is legally governed term, 'sustainable' is NOT! Any brand can 'greenwash' and claim to be sustainable.
many fashion accessories including chanel are not even silver... its just gold or silver plated BRASS which can tarnish and turn green over time and wear...
This is something in the past I worried about. Spending tons of money on a bag and then they do something scandalous. I actually ended up getting rid of all my luxury bags, chanel, fendi, etc. I now stick to no name bags. I know luxury is important to alot of people but I honestly don't care anymore. I actually view luxury now as expensive fast fashion. Which makes me feel less bad about buying a $60 no name bag.

I am a RTW customer at my local boutique and my next planned purchase was exactly the women’s vicuña cardigan in black. Before the scandals i was really astounded at how much premium is put on the branding and the logo when the item is worth merely a tenth or even less than the retail price. But with the present circumstances, my resolve to buy local and get value for my money while supporting local artisans has become stronger.
Loro Piana's style has gotten a lot better, and their material is still the best. People use to joke about how LP should copy Brunello Cucinelli designs. I would still consider Loro Piana a decent brand to shop from if you have the money. If people care about "fair" practice in luxury clothing, then I think Brunello Cucinelli sits at the top. When you buy BC, you're literally supporting a whole village in Italy that makes most of the items by hand.
I've bought several Brunello Cucinelli pieces, and I agree. I can feel the difference in quality and it seems BC is pretty transparent with their sourcing. BC cashmere is amazing, I prefer it to LP.
This is the power of Monopoly. It should never have been allowed in the first place. This company seems to do whatever it wants without any regulations, fiscal supervision, or intervention by officials until recently, with the Dior scandal. We have yet to see justice or changes in the luxury industry.

You made some good points, I am one who has a curated collection where it takes me about a year or more to save up for a bag that cost under $1000 CAD. So when I bought my Balenciaga about 3- 4 years ago, to this day it’s still my most practical bag until the whole scandal came out, I miss using that bag but will I be judged? I will be traveling soon and I really want to bring the bag because it’s travel friendly but to where I am going, I’m not sure how people will react. I shouldn’t care but i don’t want to hear anything as well. I am not supporting what they have done but I am also not one that could just buy a bag, you know.
I’m now into Dooney & bourke. I found my first vintage D&B at my local thrift shop. I feel a lot better shopping those brands versus Dior or Gucci. I love the old money brands like D&B.
All my life I prefered and valued authentic, original and unique designs. Luxury brands are now only easily recognized for being abnoxiously expensive... Nothing really elegant about it.

I have a lot of luxury items that have been accumulated over the years. Those are years of regret. Yes, most are good quality but you’re really paying for the label. You can find just as good quality items for cheaper from lesser known brands.

It’s a fabric bag? People buying fabric totes, poly and viscose from these brands are exactly the people these brands love - because they are consumers without any basic knowledge of textiles. Such items have been a huge cash cow for years. Although, it should be mentioned that production costs have always made out a minor part of total cost. A standard togo leather bag from LV cost about 200€-300€ to make, but about 2k to sell and retail for about 3600 ish, where 20% of the price is taxes depending on location. Comparable, a t-shirt made in Portugal or Italy cost about 25€-35€ to make and retail for about 400€- 500€ and cotton hoodies, depending on the GSM, can cost as much as 70€ and retail for 700€-1000€. The profit margin on bags have always been higher - and these accessories were historically used to subsidize the clothing, which makes much less.
Luxury ist going down. Not only LVMH but also Kering. Gucci, Balenciaga etc really struggle. I am happy I sold most of my bags. Dont miss one of them. Keeping 3 bags, simple everyday like Marc Jacobs tote and DeMellier. It’s nice and worth the money I would say. But 3k for a tote. No this time is over.
I seriously don't care if Demna did something. Balenciaga is not Demna and Demna represent Balenziaga for very short time. City bag was done before Demna. Why would I stop using something I like if designer intentionally and/or purposefully did disgusting ad campaign.

I would continue wearing what you have. You can't realistically ban everything in your closet. Truthfully, the best way to navigate this is to not support these brands any further.

Most luxury buyers care more about the flex than anything else so as long as most perceive Lvmh in a positive light there will be no impact. Luxury buyers for the most part live in a fantasy world. Most don’t care about how something is made or quality. The world is way different now than it was ten years ago. Most luxury influencers back then cared about quality but not so much anymore. It’s sad because there is real abuse happening with subcontractors. Go so the documentary luxury behind the mirror talking about tanneries in Italy and the fur trade in China.

I love vintage bags from classic LV to 2009 luxury bags in pre-owned whose still in gooD conditions. However the only “new” bag I want is Interracio from Bottega Venetta that’s it ! People are SO entitled with the logos and the prestige of a well know luxury bag, they care less about the story of the bag, his own process, etc. Capitalism has ruined a lot of humans lol.

But I won’t give these “luxury” scammers my money

I saw a person say his job was to cut off the tags of a $3.00 t-shirt and then put in a nicely branded box and they were put in boutiques for $60.00 a t-shirt. Plain jane white t-shirt. It was all in the packaging. There are so many small business leather bag makers that do quality work for a lot less; however, brand is sometimes important to people. Great video.

I would prefer a *esluxy* - a copy of a design I like but without the branding which would make it a replica. When you look at the jaw-dropping greed of these luxury brands coupled with a growing contempt for their customers, their appalling behaviour is a a terrible role model for society. They could clean up their act by making bags with realistic price tags.

They also found out that illegals Chinese workers were producing Gucci goods in sweat shops in Italy.

I bought a replica of a Chanel brooch for $20 to compare materials etc. The real brooch cost $800 and was made of the exact same materials - brass, synthetic pearls, glass. The other one is a $40 one *topluxs* Backpack Replica - also works for Compare - I can't find any difference and still use it for the gym.

I recently went to a Loro Piana store in Italy and looked at a pair of white shorts that seemed to be made out of cotton/ linen. I looked at the price tag and it cost over 1100 euros. No matter how premium the material might be, it couldn't possibly justify this price tag. To me this is just pure greed. I don't think I will ever buy from LP especially after learning more about their scandals afterwards

I have a Reissue Calfskin Mini in a Classic Medium/Large and for me it's perfect size, low profile and softness for my daily use. I have a classic large because I love the construction and because it is roomy but I never wear it in Australia because I have never seen it and I find it too "flashy" but in Europe it is perfect *HOTDUPS*

I have never been concerned about if others have fakes and replicas, unless they are trying to pass them off as real to sell them. I also don’t think replicas and dupes are that horrible as they push brands to be innovative (the classic monogram print was created in part to fight off counterfeiting) which benefits us as design lovers.I guess I can understand folks not wanting the same bag as others, but if it’s a good *jklux* it would make sense that more people would want it, authentic or not

I think in part, the younger generation is not as interested in "luxury brands" and care more about repurposing, shop your closet, and simple living. I read where Tiffany brands are losing sales as the new generation sees it as dated for generations in the past.
In the young generation, you find the higher number of customers of luxury brands. All these teenagers with Celine or Palm Angels t-shirts, Stone Island Jackets or Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Prada bags...

How is this a surprise? Sweatshops and labor exploitation have been around for hundreds of years. My mother worked in a sweatshop jn NYC for 15 years. She was paid a nickel to a quarter for sewing parts of a wardrobe. She worked 12 hours day, 7 days a week. These sweatshops were all over NYC from 1980’s to 2000. They exploited immigrants. The world didn’t talk about it because there was no internet and the clothing brands were not LV and Chanel.

When people say “are we really surprised?” and other sentiments like this…I don’t think it’s a statement on how up to date we are on current events. Rather, I think the statement expresses a specific worldview - a worldview that believes all of capital productivity is built on corruption and exploitation. Obviously I can’t speak for everyone, but it’s more like saying “exploitation is built into our economic-political systems so this should have been assumed” and less saying “why are you just finding this out now?”

I am still going to use my Balenciaga and Dior items because they are quite old and I like using them. Will I buy more? Probably not but that remains to be seen. My advice would be, make sure you buy things you really like and will use because no brand is “safe” from these type of scandals.

Yep, I've always gone for vintage pretty much and if I buy new it's lesser known brands like Costume National on sale, or really unknown ones. For me it's been fun and while I admire to an extent what others have, I don't decide my friendships based on what people own or what they look like. I would find owning some things to be limiting. I enjoy the creative side of fixing altering and styling. I don't care about prestige so much as value and the aesthetics. I almost bought a preloved Fendi peekaboo and then realised it was way too small and that was it. If we aren't supporting local artisans on a decent wage what the heck are we doing is my perspective.

I have never bought Balenciaga and never will.I have 7 Dior bags and will enjoy them but will not buy more.I was looking at The Caro quite seriously but it's off my list now. Not vey ethical of Loro Piana. I’m in a very similar headspace, was about to buy a new bag from LV when the dior scandal hit. I have been collecting since 2005. And while I always knew the margins on these bags were huge, I was prepared to pay a premium for a bag made ethically in an atelier of some sort, in Europe. Now, I’ve realised it’s all made in sweatshop conditions. So I will not give these people one more cent of my money. Going to enjoy the old pieces I own and continue to wear them, but if I have to buy new I’ll be looking at the new luxe brands like Polene , Songmont , Cuyana or Demellier etc

I am not willing to buy designer anymore when I can get the exact same or similar style and maybe better quality for a smaller price. I am not willing to put money into luxury brands anymore if they are here to push some sort of fake diversity and fake environmental agenda. There's a psychological side to it. I can confirm the feeling just isn't the same when you're unpacking a dupe, compared to an authentic, handcrafted piece. For me, its like a journey; opening the package, then the box, taking off the paper, layer by layer, smelling the leather... Ahh, you just CAN'T beat that! Had a neighbour who had an insane collection of couture clothes and bags. She showed me the newer vs the older items, even Is, not having an eye for haute couture and luxury brands could see Louis Vuitton and Chanel had degraded their quality standards. It just looked cheaper.

To me what turned me off luxury brands is knowing that they use slave labor like any other fast fashion brand. Their leather does not come from organically and pasture raised cattle with local artisans getting fair wage, no, it comes from Italian slave market where mostly African refugees get their fingers cut off and no toilet breaks to increase profit for the brands. I am looking for information where the material comes from, are they certified and yes, that's still not a guarantee that the company is 'ethical' or just 'sustainable'. Because, as I learned, while 'ethical' is legally governed term, 'sustainable' is NOT! Any brand can 'greenwash' and claim to be sustainable.

This is something in the past I worried about. Spending tons of money on a bag and then they do something scandalous. I actually ended up getting rid of all my luxury bags, chanel, fendi, etc. I now stick to no name bags. I know luxury is important to alot of people but I honestly don't care anymore. I actually view luxury now as expensive fast fashion. Which makes me feel less bad about buying a $60 no name bag.

Before the scandals i was really astounded at how much premium is put on the branding and the logo when the item is worth merely a tenth or even less than the retail price. But with the present circumstances, my resolve to buy local and get value for my money while supporting local artisans has become stronger.
Loro Piana's style has gotten a lot better, and their material is still the best. People use to joke about how LP should copy Brunello Cucinelli designs. I would still consider Loro Piana a decent brand to shop from if you have the money. If people care about "fair" practice in luxury clothing, then I think Brunello Cucinelli sits at the top. When you buy BC, you're literally supporting a whole village in Italy that makes most of the items by hand.
I've bought several Brunello Cucinelli pieces, and I agree. I can feel the difference in quality and it seems BC is pretty transparent with their sourcing. BC cashmere is amazing, I prefer it to LP.
This is the power of Monopoly. It should never have been allowed in the first place. This company seems to do whatever it wants without any regulations, fiscal supervision, or intervention by officials until recently, with the Dior scandal. We have yet to see justice or changes in the luxury industry.

You made some good points, I am one who has a curated collection where it takes me about a year or more to save up for a bag that cost under $1000 CAD. So when I bought my Balenciaga about 3- 4 years ago, to this day it’s still my most practical bag until the whole scandal came out, I miss using that bag but will I be judged? I will be traveling soon and I really want to bring the bag because it’s travel friendly but to where I am going, I’m not sure how people will react. I shouldn’t care but i don’t want to hear anything as well. I am not supporting what they have done but I am also not one that could just buy a bag, you know.
I’m now into Dooney & bourke. I found my first vintage D&B at my local thrift shop. I feel a lot better shopping those brands versus Dior or Gucci. I love the old money brands like D&B.
I just don’t feel excited about purchasing or carrying luxury bags because I now look at them as having the same value of a bargain store bag.

I have a lot of luxury items that have been accumulated over the years. Those are years of regret. Yes, most are good quality but you’re really paying for the label. You can find just as good quality items for cheaper from lesser known brands.

It’s a fabric bag? People buying fabric totes, poly and viscose from these brands are exactly the people these brands love - because they are consumers without any basic knowledge of textiles. Such items have been a huge cash cow for years. Although, it should be mentioned that production costs have always made out a minor part of total cost. A standard togo leather bag from LV cost about 200€-300€ to make, but about 2k to sell and retail for about 3600 ish, where 20% of the price is taxes depending on location. Comparable, a t-shirt made in Portugal or Italy cost about 25€-35€ to make and retail for about 400€- 500€ and cotton hoodies, depending on the GSM, can cost as much as 70€ and retail for 700€-1000€. The profit margin on bags have always been higher - and these accessories were historically used to subsidize the clothing, which makes much less.
We’ve known that luxury products are overpriced and people buy it only for social reasons. It’s nothing new.

Loro Piana was a small brand with high prices and now they are becoming crazy overpriced and overhyped but mass production and mass availability will kill this kind of brand, they will become Massimo Dutti at one point. Most luxury buyers care more about the flex than anything else so as long as most perceive Lvmh in a positive light there will be no impact. Luxury buyers for the most part live in a fantasy world. Most don’t care about how something is made or quality. The world is way different now than it was ten years ago. Most luxury influencers back then cared about quality but not so much anymore. It’s sad because there is real abuse happening with subcontractors. Go so the documentary luxury behind the mirror talking about tanneries in Italy and the fur trade in China.
Luxury shopping isn't over BUT consumers are now very picky over value and choosing to invest in quality over quantity.

I love vintage bags from classic LV to 2009 luxury bags in pre-owned whose still in gooD conditions.
However the only “new” bag I want is Interracio from Bottega Venetta that’s it !
People are SO entitled with the logos and the prestige of a well know luxury bag, they care less about the story of the bag, his own process, etc.

My family has all switched to highest quality items. Some of my bags i switched. I have alot just sitting in storage.
