I just did a comparison: both cameras in log 3, 422 10bit, awb, 1080p and 4k, both 24fps, and iso base/3200/6400/12800/25600, and over-exposed 2 stops in camera then brought back in post. They are FAR closer as far as noise is concerned than anyone would care to admit since the sony sensor has a huge hype on it as has had for years. I was absolutely surprised. Canon definitely has better awb hands down as far as my experience has been. As far noise, they were the same at base and 12800, canon beat the sony at 3200 and 6400, and maybe slightest edge to sony at 25600 but still a very nice image from them both. I may upload a short video on it soon.
The R8 is excellent for both filming and photography, and its price is also much better than the Sony ZV-E1. The comparison video is very good and detailed. Thank you very much!

high iso R8 noise more than E1 but more detail , you can noise reduction when edit and i like it more than e1 already reduce noise then the detail of texture is lost very much and you can't recover , Iam a asian guy so I like the color of R8 more than warm tone and more tint on E1, skin tone on R8 more white , but if i want to change it after edit easy if i want more warm and more tint easy BUt on E1 the color and contrast is more flater than R8
Just a heads up. It’s not quite fair on either of your settings. Sony will fair much better just shooting in SCinetone which is still super easy to just click on vs no profile. Also, Sony 12,800 2nd base iso is only in Slog3. Otherwise it’s generally 3200 in other profiles. Also, canon only shoots 10bit color in log. Sort of short arms it a bit. Lastly, Canon shoots 4k oversampled vs straight 4k for the Sony. So it will look softer but more natural generally. Finally, just for the sake of the test. Why not simple lower the aperture or raise your shutter speed to test the iso properly vs waiting for it to get dark. Obviously it’s not “proper” but the point is to test the iso. All things considered, the R8 holds up well. If not everyone already knowing Sonys 12mp sensor is just a beast with no try competitor. You can crank it to 50,000 and still have a decently usable image.
Did you shoot with their respective kit lenses? Canon color profiles look better to me but in low light-more natural, more character, a better lens would definitely help. I don't like the Sony smoothing at higher ISO.

I think you missed the point if you shoot Sony in no color profile 10bit you should shoot Canon in HDR PQ enabled 10bit with Neutral profile manually tuning down sharpness. Canon's 8bit file has not only less color information but oversharpening too. For Canon you can't shoot 10bit no color profile. Also auto white balance in Canon has auto white priority and auto two options. I like the latter one more.
Yeah I get it. However, I am all about ease of use. Turn the camera on and use it without spending hours in post, just my personal preference and I wanted to show that here. I agree you can make any modern camera look however you would like if you do post work, I am just showing out of the box, The Zve1 looks better to me. I LOVE my canon R8 as well, for the priced it cant be beat at 1499 or less used! Thanks for the comments!😊😊

For some reason you have one camera overexposed in all the shots. The colors are off. Making the comparison moot. No one shoots out of the box settings. Well I should not say that. But the ones that do are never going to see this video. I only made it half way through. Any conclusions based on the videos taken are basically useless. Pick the brand you are a fanboy of and go out in the world and make some videos.

the zve1 has a softer picture and probably has a skin softening filter. The R8 is sharper for sure. Both great cameras. Great review.
