I have hardly used any color pencils other than the ones I mentioned in this video just for the purpose of fine details in oil pastel works.... thus I cannot tell you much about color pencils
OMS is like a paint thinner, and technically you can use linseed oil as well, I personally feel that linseed oil leaves too much residue and takes a lot longer to dry

I can't tolerate any kind of solvent..do you have an alternative idea? You're a wonderful teacher!
you could use linseed oil... however, use it in minimal quantities to avoid too much residue
I'm thinking about trying out the brush and OMS technique. I have some oil pastels that I've hardly used, mostly sticking with acrylic and graphite.
give it at least one try.... you'll enjoy it!!

Do the polychromos color pencils layer over oil pastels well? I would like to go over existing areas with the pencils to add detail.
color pencils do not go over great on oil pastels unless you are using them over small areas
