    I loved listening to your narrative and perspective as you talked through what you liked and noticed. You also discussed your frustrations but spoke in a way that gave yourself room for improvement! "I just need more practice" or "I just need to remember for next time..." Thank you for the positive, growth mindset language! It made me want to actually use the oil pastels when that's not a medium I would ever consider. Thank you!

      Thank you so much and thank you for sharing your amazing comment!! I always try to make my videos positive and motivational because that's the mindset I like to convey even when things get difficult!
      As artists we all face ups and downs but I really believe that with a positive mindset you can overcome anything :)
      and it just made me so happy that you were able to recognize that in my video!

    I tried oil pastels in art class in highschool but I started to actually desire to master the skill of painting with oil painting and pastels. I also noticed the oil pastels in highschool we're not as oily as the ones in my art kit. I have various media but I have not used the oil pastels or paint it since I bought it. I decided since it was a expensive art set or kit, I wanted to look into techniques using oil painting and pastels before practicing in my sketchbooks. Thank you for sharing your techniques.
    I am most experienced with graphite and charcoal and somewhat experienced with acrylic. This winter I am planning to work with different media from graphite more realist art to marker, oil, clay, and water color paint and pencil. Working with not so new and new media will help me focus on improvement during the colder weather when it is not so comfortable to travel or stay outside. 🤗❤️👍🏾💯

    Lovely video Sandra!
    The Paul Rubens oil pastels are pretty interesting I think because pretty much all less expensive oil pastels I've heard from seem to be pretty hard and I really prefer the softer ones!
    Also, your paintings are beautiful!

      Thank you so much Jana for your kind words! That's good to know!
      you know, I have little experience with oil pastels so I wasn't sure if most oil pastels are supposed to be hard or soft, I guessed there can be both types but definitely the soft oil pastels from paul rubens are really good quality! :)

    I love oil pastels so much! I've not used them much yet, but I've got two sets of Mungyo Gallery oil pastels waiting for when I have the time and energy really dive into a new medium. I really need to set up an art space in my apartment, I just don't use my stuff enough since everything's always put away...
    Anyway. I've been thinking about getting the Paul Rubens oil pastel set of pastel shades. I don't need another "standard" set, I already have that, but I'd love to compare the Paul Rubens and Mungyo Gallery Artists' oil pastels!
    I liked how you used the palette knives, too, I hadn't thought of using them with oil pastels! I'm definitely going to get a couple to play around with, it looks really interesting.

    Thank you Sandra for this wonderful tutorial and encouragement. When I use oil pastels with a palette knife I warm them in the microwave for 10-15seconds to make them more pliable..

    • @Jenny-yl2hw
      @Jenny-yl2hw Год назад

      Hi Sandra, thank you for your reply. I put the oil pastels in the microwave on LOW for that time, they only have enough time to soften a little. if they were in there at a higher temperature for longer I would expect them to melt and give off fumes..

    I own Sennelier and Caran d ache oil pastels and bought the Paul Rubens because of their Macaron Set with very pastel colors. They are really soft. While the don’t reach the color pay off of the Sennelier and Caran d ache they are really nice for their price. I tried cheaper ones ( Van Gogh, Pentel) which were quite disappointing. You can use a color shaper tool to blend them.
    I use them for mindless mark making and the pure fun of using them.

    I'm wanting to get into oil pastels, and I'm deciding between these, Mungyo Gallery, and maybe Sennelier. Something that's creamy but still has some firmness to it.

    I purchased a few small sets of oil pastels several years ago, but never used them. This morning I saw the photo on my feed of this video and immediately pulled out my sets to play with! After watching this video, I am excited to give them a try. Do you know how long it takes for them to cure so that they won’t smear?

    • @SmillyDonut
      @SmillyDonut 3 года назад +1

      Oil pastels never dry. They might firm up a little, bit they don't dry. You can use an oil pastel fixative that Sennelier sells or cover with glassine or tracing paper to prevent smearing.
