Type R P73 Intake Manifold Porting Development, Runner Harmonics talk
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 3 июл 2022
- We work on a P73 TypeR intake manifold much like we did on the P30 and share ideas and approach when it comes to the runner length and on the 2nd order of harmonics tuning.
Alot of times people think because certain rpm is not for them or within reach then its of less importance, here we share how to take advantage of it including reference dyno comparison of a p30 b18 and a p73 b18 as well as the venerable B16a H3autoworks did with a ported p73 and how we ran 12.7seconds on that without slicks and on pump gas
Hopefully this gives you guys ideas and inspire to shoot for more efficiency

Great job, including all those graphs and comments. Just have to put my like here. I like the idea of starting the video with unboxing, just like you did. Keep up mate. :)
Yeah the graph explains more or helps explain words better indeed
@@SRDmotorsports Exactly and that is good. :)
@@RRRRefuelRideRace yep so so true
Nice work, greetings from Yucatán, México!
Whoa! El Mexico awesome :)
cant wait to install it😁
Hahaha ladies and gentlemen… the owner lol
@zeff noob can’t wait either for the feedback and findings especially aft you guys tune!
Nice work ☝️
Thaaaaanks man :)
Hopefully it transforms the “perceptions” when it comes to engine set up planning etc
Oh and hopefully more work incoming for the shop 😂 so that we do MOAR vids 🤣
Those plenum/port designs actually look pretty good from the factory! It’s no wonder Honda were the best (car) NA engines horsepower per litre wise for a while.
So true so true!!
Excellent video! Greetings from Cape Town.
Oooooh nice to know!!! I have been to the table top mountain when I was a kid!!! Such a nice place but in the 90s it was hard to find the KFC 😂
@@SRDmotorsports I saw you mentioned in a previous video that you spent time here. Small world. You won’t have a problem finding a KFC/Chicken Licken/Nandos now 😂
@@JA_S_ON oh snap!!!! I haven’t heard “nandos” and “chicken licken” in more than two decades hahahahaga
Oh man il tell my dad he still travels to joburg now cuz he works for WorldVision
Maaaaaaan I remember I’d buy Nandos garlic sauce or something they sell it for buyers like it’s bnew right?
Every time we set foot in SA from Mozambique that was always my goal any food (grilled) is always good with nandos garlic and piri piri sauce 😂
@@SRDmotorsports 100s! they sell the Nandos sauces in our supermarkets. Funny that you get hot and xx hot. 😂 like hot was not hot enough.
@@JA_S_ON oh snap yes they do that different versions of hotness hahaha
Nice work ass always 👌 great content
TypeR a favorite! 🥰
👌
Heeeey thanks man! Quick you are :)
Oooohlala!!!! Saktong cure sa monday mania
Sooooooo true so trueeee
7:26 Nice TQ!
8:46 Did it run s2s2/Jun3 cams?
Yup! It was actually sensitive to ping
Cuz it had a “small” blox-B which lead to the reason to porting the ITR manifold “again” as it was ported already by me
= the moments the change taught me something cuz the initial mod was done by me :)
Sorry, was commenting while watching, should've finished the video first, haha
Hope you don't mind me asking, what grit sanding roll are you using towards the port entry? Thanks
@@findtherightbeat oh that’s fine I don’t think I did mention what cam it had on the video
Learned that from the vw guys and it seem to work for us and I remember Endyn mentioned something along the lines…
Vw adage’ was if u have too big of a weber? A decent snappy sized cam is good
If you are teetering on it being small? A big cam would help “to a point”
So same as having a small cam go big webers for a bit more oomph
Our Weber was the ITR manifold 😂
I trust you’re keeping well, I was hoping to find you on IG as I don’t do FB.
Would you be so kind as to share your opinion? The goal is to run on pump fuel, that I can daily and race on the odd occasion.
I have a b16a6 S4C gbox, JDM ITR OEM pistons. 63mm 1 box exhaust with 4-2-1 headers, SRI, chipped ECU, warlboro 255, stock head.
I’ve acquired another head which I’d like to fit.
Buddyclub dual valve springs, Buddyclub P1 flat face valves. Head is ported, skim and some work done in the combustion chamber, slightly ported between the valves.
Supertech valve stem seals, Supertech guides
Also came with:
Ported blox intake manifold
Speed factory 70mm TB
Speed factory Thermo gasket Port matched.
I’ve also acquired gates blue cam belt, AEM FPR, supertech headgasket (thicker one) which will all go on once the head is fitted.
My question is, what camshaft would you suggest?
I’ve been advised to go skunk 2 pro 2.
After watching your video on porting a P30 Manifold and resonance. I am leaning towards ditching the Blox intake and porting a P30 manifold. Would be nice to do a Dyno comparison between the 2 intakes running the set up above.
I appreciate your thoughts and thank you for your interest 🙌
@@JA_S_ON wow that’s a nice sounding set up! Odd my personal IG says SRD so I might make it SRD official lol it’s ralfsrdms
On cams if limited on Ecu tuning? The pro2 u will have a hard time so a pro1 or if possible a budddyclub spec3 (slightly bigger than a TypeR) is good. Heck to save u cost a CTR cam works
But then again the magical “R” does get expensive lol
Another trick choice is a crower 402A
A lot don’t mention it cuz everyone’s fb friends are expert and suggest what they read not do 😂
But the letter A on crower 402A (not 402) means the primary and secondary lobes are “slightly” hotter than a CTR spec and Ofcourse the vtec lobe is 402. This would let u have good drivability on limited tuning
Keep the blox manifold but cuz u have the p30 enjoy the p30 first for free :)
Crower 402A is nandos x
And
Crower 402 is nandos xx
If talking about primaries
Which relates to idle too so atleast it’s a decent approach
@@SRDmotorsports Thank you. Your perspective is invaluable. I am no engine builder however I can grasp a bit of physics here and there.
I came across another srdmotorsports account, will search for ralfsrdms instead 👍
I’m not sure how limited I am on ECU tuning, as mentioned I have a Dastek Unichip with Vtec controller and Rev module. It’s not in the same conversation as other more well known units that replace the oem ECU completely like hondata, fueltec and haltec.
Lotsa truth in what you’re saying. Crowers are less popular over here although we have run 403’s on a mild non Vtec LS set up that was crying for S4C ratios. We did however run BC Spec5’s on a LSVTEC and they were immense, this build however had an extensive list of mods. Nowadays we might be better off going K for the same money.
I do understand what you’re getting at in terms of cam choice, I’m not really phased as long as it suits the setup which you’ve so kindly explained.
Locally you could pick up CTR cams for the same price as BC spec3’s. I’ll be looking into Pro1’s or the 402’s as you pointed out 👍
I’ll definitely hold onto the P30
@@JA_S_ON oh sweet the bc buddyclub spec5 is GOOD as a friend used it before
Yes I understand the ecu tuning part and yes it’s too much to go all the way to Hondata
And yes very nice to see you cleverly push forward with this project :)
I been watching most of your videos and I really like your work, think I can send u my RBC manifold and pay you to port it for me.
Oh wow thank you for those words man and I’m glad the content shared is useful and great!
and yeah that is possible, what country are you in? I mean where so we can check on shipping ideas and costing
@@SRDmotorsports I'm in the United states. What would you charge to port my RBC Manifold.
Oh alright got it… msg me up at the new shop page
Buongiorno ,
complimenti per il lavoro molto molto bello dal punto di vista estetico e credo maggiormente dal punto di vista funzionale e prestazionale, ma il coperchio che è stato tagliato, sarà poi risaldato!!?
Anche io desidero fare questa operazione))))
grazie ancora
Yes glad you saw the presentation well and saw the possible hood advantage of the work done especially if you have a certain goal or power to reach and achieve
Grazie molto!
@@SRDmotorsports Yes, but I wanted to know if the plenum cap will then be re-welded?, thanks
Yes it is rewelded via Tig Weld
Which one is better with tuner 2 cams and high compression pistons, b16a2 or type r intake
manifold?.
Really depends but both will work real good the p30 will still give good midrange and top end will be taken care of by the tuner 2 cam
Thanks bro.. Might as well just buy a 70mm and port the p73 with it.
Yup
9:30 110 lb torque is low for a 1.6 bseries has no torque... but becouse rpm has power
yes indeed
Let me ask you I've got a stock Mazda I'm going to port and polished my intake to keep away carbon carbon buildup. what kind of horsepower do you think I would see increase by doing that as well I think the horsepower rating stock is 180
Really depends on
@@SRDmotorsports depends on what?
@@Shadowwolf7774 depends if the engine is needing more “induction” or what…
it’s why I never check it with “how much hp” cuz everything affects one another…
Example lacking induction = a good cam can help somehow and the engine will think it has a “better manifold” (all about valve timing)
but then too big of a cam u lose midrange if ever? Then a better induction with good runner airspeed can help gain some midrange while sti helping top end…
In this platform it’s easy to “over cam” thats why airspeed is a lot of times big help
@@SRDmotorsports thank you for explaining that.
No worries man… u can check with the Mazda engine (if it’s a BP) if it’s known to be lacking manifold or undercammed = that will actually be a perfect starting point for the next step 😎
Do you have experience with watercooled vw manifolds?
Which kind? But I havnt actually… however the approach and analogy will remain the same cuz air flow is airflow
@@SRDmotorsports9A 16v(41mm) and also have the Euro KR 16v(50mm). I had the KR manifold ported. KR is shaped like the type R=less bell mouth opportunity. The 9A looks more like a P30 at runner entry.
Oh that’s interesting and really cool
@@SRDmotorsports You have inspired me... Wanting to cut the 9A to open radius entry like your work. I don't know how to weld aluminum . Thanks very much for sharing.
No problem man
that manifold looks familiar ....
Because of the outside paint? 🤣
Could you possibly send an email address I am interested in send my air intake, it's a Nissan y61 which needs porting
