  • This running detroit diesel 671 was just transplanted into this gm 4104 bus. It’s running very smooth after a tune up and sone adjustments. Smokey son of a gun that will hopefully clear up with some driving.

An EMD locomotive has essentially the same 2 stroke engine only bigger 8 1/2 x 10 inches max rpm on a GP 10 was 935. I used to be a locomotive engineer and had to pick up my power for third shift switcher at Beacon Park just outside Boston. This engine had been in storage for three years. The just fired it up before I got it and simply made sure it was full of water in the cooling system, full of lube oil and fuel. It had been running just over 20 minutes. Once I got up to the west end of the yard and started to pull track 2 on the piggyback loading tracks I on direction of my conductor started pulling west past the yard office. When I went past the yard office I was in the 4th notch of power and laying down a smoke screen that would have hid a WW II destroyer. Once I finished the pull of 30 cars I noticed the smoke had decreased significantly. The engine by this time was fully warmed up.

Sounds like Tyler's bus might have rolled over twice before it lit off. Amazing.

I enjoy watching your videos on your maintenance on the Detroit 2-strokes. IIRC, there was a movie titled "Dr. Detroit". I'll call you "Dr. Detroit Diesel ". Keep the videos rolling.
