  • Hello everyone.
This is a special video about a guy who buys an old Greyhound bus in Canada and wants to drive it back to Brazil.
He and his wife are on this adventure together.
The bus is a 1956 Greyhound Scenicruiser.
If you've traveled on Hwy 1 through Spences Bridge BC, you have likely seen this bus parked for many years.
    Well, that's about to change!
Watch Saldanha and Valeria get this bus running and driving.

I rescued a derelict '62 GM bus that was in Pouce Coupe a few years ago. That bus the solenoid was only for engaging reverse, it still had all 4 forward gears. But then I spent 3 days working on it in my cousins truck shop in Grande Prairie and got the solenoid working and the throttle lubed up & freed. Then i drove it 850 miles down to the west Kootenays! It cruised at 70-75 mph easily all day long, with all 6 new tires!

Man, I just want to thank you (as a Brazilian) for all that patience and non-verbal communication!
    😂😂😂
I am sure that this bus will be revived and I can't wait to see it been drived around here, in Brazil.
    😊

good on you for helping, James. it's gonna be weird going by there and not seeing the bus parked where it's been for years.

That was the type of Greyhound that Cary Grant rode out to "Prairie Stop" in Indiana to meet George Kaplan in "North By Northwest" in 1959.

Simpler to put it in reverse from the outside. You need to put the bus in first gear, then with the clutch depressed, useing a stick or rod between the axles on the driver's side, press against the solenoid arm while pulling the transmission from first back to second. Those solenoids were frequent fail items, even back in the early 1980s!
The Solenoid only flips the function of second gear to Reverse. Without the solenoid you have all four forward gears as the default position for it is to engage 2nd gear.
I would be shocked if that thing would move in that field in third gear! Even in in second the bus won't have enough torque to move much at all unless on smooth flat ground. I feel for that clutch.
    If I recall correctly 1st gear was 0 to 17, 2nd was 17 to 35, 3rd was 35 to 53 and 4th was 53 to 72. (Disclaimer: it's been 42 years since I drove one!)

Throttle pedal sticking usually is right at pivot at bottom of pedal itself.. all dirt. Water.. salts shit off feet.. spray pivot on pedal with kroil or PB Blaster with bus off.. work the pedal by hand a bunch..rinse and repeat.. get that lube worked into bottom pivot of pedal to help free it up..

That bus has as much chance making it to Brazil as i have of flying to the moon...and that's not a criticism.

All that gear grinding made me stiffen up so much. I would have sorted out the solenoids first. This is awesome though. I just found out about these buses and I've never seen any in person ever.

It should have a Williams Control air throttle so just squirting the piss out of the pedal should free it up. Check & see if the clutch brake is warn out or the pressure plate needs adjusting. I was screaming inside when he was ripping the tops off the gears!

    • @brentlance2379
      @brentlance2379 6 месяцев назад +1

Williams air throttle can be a nightmare on a bus thats still a manual trans.. my understanding anyways.. it doesnt let rpm drop fast enough for the shift to next gear i believe.

@@brentlance2379you just have to get used to a air throttle with standard transmission,I drove them for many years. 🇨🇦😎
