I am deeply impressed that they fought hard enough to hold ISIS off. It must have been beyond horrible to live there. Does anyone know the name of that place?
It is the city of Deir-ez-Zour, a strategically critical city located on the Euphrates river. The holdout of Syrian troops there was critical in disrupting ISIS supply lines and keeping thousands of ISIS troops away from the main western front. Given air supply, the Syrian Arab Army held out there for 3 years under the leadership of general Issam Zahreddine. Ironically, Zahreddine was killed when his vehicle hit a landline just outside the city, days after the siege was broken
