- Dave Darcy of Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV and Andrew Clubb of Australian Adventure Bike Magazine continue with their long term bike build of their Honda CRF300 L Rally affectionately named the 'Little Red Rooster'.
In episode 2 the 'Little Red Rooster' was fitted with Rally Raid Suspension and Pirelli tyres.
In this episode (Episode 3) Myles Gooch of Unifilter Australia drops by with a world first for the 'Little Red Rooster'.
It's the first to have a Unifilter foam air filter installed. These foam air filters go on sale from the Australian Unifilter site from Monday 11 July and can be delivered all over the world. Myles then demonstrates how to fit the air filter and demonstrates how to slightly alter the airbox snorkel to attain maximum benefit from the pre filter.

Clubby then unboxes some B & B goodies, including a Bashplate, Tail Rack and Tail tidy.

Well done video about the install. Even better done about Clubby being the assistant! Good thing the Unifilter guy was in charge...Not one hammer!
Thanks 👍
Love seeing the aftermarket flourish with the little Honda
It's on now.
Clubby sounds like me when I'm explaining to the wife why I purchased a specific product when it arrives at the house unexpectedly. "Well you know, I didn't have one of these, and this actually gives us this, and it's so slim-lined, and what it also does for you is..."
Bloody excellent
Just what I was thinking at the end of the video lol! I start an explanation, then quickly walk out to the barn mid sentence. My kids think that any box with my name on the shipping label must be motorcycle parts. I've trained them well.
UniFilter - one of the best companies on the planet,
Done some great work over the years
That filter looks brilliantly designed. Love the Velcro for easy of changing, never realised the the air box was up that high, almost as high as my Yamaha wr
Unifilter design some good stuff.
Now I know what to get my friend for xmas! Thanks Unifilter :)
Excellent news thanks for the step by step instructions. It will make it a lot easier to figure out the first fitting as it seems a little fiddly
Glad it was helpful!
I definitely support a oiled foam replacement for the paper for real offroad riding. I do worry that the size of the filter takes up so much of the pre filter volume that it will not have enough volume all around the filter to allow proper air movement all around the element. I can't help wonder if the filter should be recessed more into the volume of the stock post filter. Yes I know it will change the Helmholtz resonation but honestly on a dirtbike with continual throttle/rpm changes I doubt that will matter. Still the Uni is a big step over the paper for proper dirt riding.
Thank you for your contribution
Can't wait to see you testing this bike after all the upgrades.
Just wondering if the new rear shock is good enough. On the previous clip with the installation it seemed to be just slightly better. Hope that in reality it works as you wanted to💪🏽
We hope to get out very shortly. Nugget has something planned for us.
Love the channel and get the need to swap out the filter but.. Unifilter you need to do a version two using the plastic frame that the OEM paper uses. I’m an hour into trying to fit this thing and you’ve no real way to be sure the back is slotted in properly. Beware anyone who’s handy with the spanners but has normal hands. PS I’m loving this machine. Keep up the great vids team
Thank you
B&B make proper gear. For the tail tidy reflector, I suggest proper red reflective tape. Lasts, weighs nothing and reflects almots 180degrees ( unlike the plastic stcok ones that only reflect properly for 30degrees)
Thank you
The sound is better on this one..
And what's the life of the unifilter, how many cleaning cycles ?
Next time your up Cooranbong way the coffee will be on.👍
Live is always a compromise on an iphone.
Hello,
1-Can I used it for long travels ?
2- how many times do you reuse the filter ?
3- is it available in the Middle East
4- is it better than the factory filter
5- when it comes to reliability how does it does
Thank you
Yes. Many times. The filter can be purchased off the internet at Unifilter. Better than factory filter for dusty environments. Very good.
Hi, i have question about rear brake/back brake - i listen this brake is very soft/very weak. Its true? You change it?
Great solution. It didn't look like you had much filter oil on the foam filters? Do they come pre-oiled or did you add some oil later? Cheers
Yes the filters do come pre-oiled ready to use
If i have a full exhaust system or a stock exhaust , do i need to change the ecu or i just run it like the paper filter?thx nice product!!!
No need if you're not chasing horse power.
waiting to see the Simon dessert dust great video
Our next ride is with Nugget in the forest.
What sise nitrile gloves is Myles wearing? Looks a tight fit for my XL sized mit! May need to take a tiny companion on longer trips.
Possibly :)
How does the pre filter and filter affect the airflow, would they not limit the airflow vs std.
Seems fine to us.
Perhaps give some credit to shonky for taking one through the simpson.... un-supported and only used 21 liters of fuel.
I've aleady told him that. Did you know I put him onto the CRF in the first place when he still had his AT.
I wonder what Shonkey's paper air filter looked like after that ride - yikes. I was going to say I bet he thanked you for that bike advice Dave, but his mate Dave flogged that big KTM 950 through there no problem... well, maybe 'no problem' is understating the obvious, but you know what I mean LOL
@@mollygrubber Covid Dave is a very good and experienced rider. It's funny, whilst riding a CRF in the Simpson is great. Riding a KTM990, remember much heavier, bigger fuel load, heavier front wheel....now that is the real achievement. Not only must covid Dave be a good rider he must be bloody fit. I already know he's fearless.
that snorkel is not for dust to be put in the filter , is sow long for sound absorbing , if you cut it you will here the engine a little louder !
Clearly you didn't listen to the expert. The cut to to reduce the concentration of dust onto one part of the air filter.
Con tanto filtro no le faltarà aire a la moto?
What filter OIL do yall recommend for this UNI filter is Maxima FFT ok?
Doesn't really matter although mineral oil is recommnded by the airfilter company
Wonder how foam filters compare to the stainless still filters?
Prior to this I was thinking I'd run the stainless steel filter in the box and then have the foam prefilter on the snorkel. Not sure now
Good joke.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV haha. Got me laughing. But no joke. Genuine question. I'm a complete noob to all of this.
Prior to the foam, I was thinking the stainless steel is appealing since it's easy to clean and reusable. They are advertised to also breathe alot better than foam and paper.
CRF300L airbox intake funnel is known to be restrictive and people have been drilling holes to airbox, but you need to increase fueling to compensate added airflow. All bikes are lean from factory and need more fuel. Even More if you cut snorkel. I added Dobeck EJK on my CRF250 Rally and improvement is very noticeable, mostly in mid rpm range.
Tommy, are you an experienced mechanic? Because if you aren't you should preface your comments with your qualifications to make these claims. I only half agree with part of what you are saying. Drilling holes in airboxes can stuff engine dynamics on many bikes.
Looks more restrictive than stock. Do they have any test videos?
Hmm, just to put it in context, Yamaha, KTM, Husqvarna, Ducati, Suzuki and potentially others I don't know about work collaboratively with Unifilters to design and produce airfilters for their bikes. A dyno would be the only true method.
In a real world fitting, are you oiling all three filter layers?
They are pre-oiled
On the crf rally
Shonky productions have all ready being to the simsons desert 1 month ago
Yep we know that. You do know I ride with Sean? This bike is a different build.
I wonder if they will do a filter kit for the himalayan?
I should have asked. The are monitoring this post so they should come back with an answer.
Still waiting for you to ride it….
ATs first!
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV 🤨
I can't put a yellow filter cover on a Honda, can they make it in Red?
Ha Ha!
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV.
Plus yellow is my unlucky color!
I tried to order one of these filters today
Dealer phones unifilter to place order and was told they knew nothing of them
Colin you don't listen!. Please go back and listen to the video. Order them off the website. They are not taking orders from distributors for a couple of months! Honestly Miles must have said this three times during the video. I specifically ask him at the end!
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV im a bloke of course i dont listen🤣
I shall do that then , thankyou for looking after us simple folk 😂😂
Hi Colin,
These are now available direct from us until the end of the month. Our distributor wont have stock for a week or so as the filter is brand new. It always takes w few weeks for new products to hit the stores. www.uniflow.com.au/contents/en-us/d1442_CRF.html
Podia era vim pro Brasil !!! Mas o preço ia ser igual CRF 1000
Sim. Você está certo.
Again we have an area built to a price and not sufficient for purpose (Like the suspension) Refitting that cartridge was far more difficult that it needed to be.
Dale you speak with authority of an engineer and designer. Would you care to describe how you would do it and while you’re at it tell us your experience with suspension and what you would do. I’m all ears.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV Attitude? I'm neither and I'm not being a smart arse thanks. I'm sick and tired of inadequate bikes being sold. You can't say the Honda, sold as an adventure bike, is adequate. Boinga boinga test proves it. I understand you can't be to critical or you won't get bikes to test but I'm a bloke with cash who keeps walking away from bikes deliberately built with aftermarket upgrades required.
@@dalewyatt1321 I can be as critical as I want. But I have to fair and accurate. I can't just rant and put things down because I'm having a dummy spit.
Remember how affordable this is for what you get. Ideally they would have an up-spec model to sell alongside
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV Last time honest. No dummy spit I just walked away disappointed. Make a great pizza delivery bike. I DO enjoy your channel and the Africa Twin show was great.
Wish we were neighbors…
I have gorilla hands. I would never get that filter in.
Get your wife to do it and pay her handsomely.
25 minutes about a foam air filter. I love these bikes but that is nowhere near interesting. You could do this whole series of build upgrades in like 1-2 episodes. Really milking it aren't we?
Thanks Eric. Inspiring contribution from someone whose made no contribution to motorcycle adventure. Best for you to go somewhere else for your milk.
