That Listerine commercial was the first time I ever heard Tarzan Boy back in 1993, and it instantly became my favorite song of all time. I immediately found out the artist and title, and went out and bought the single CD. Since then, I've heard many other covers, and I love them all. But I never realized until now that the Listerine version was a key lower. Thanks!
@@JohnMatrix89 My parents used to have a disc of the top best classical music of the 80s and 90s. And I clearly remember this version instead of the original
I first heard this song when I was working at a movie theatre during TMNT, and we loved it so much we would dance to it while picking up the trash between shows! Then I saw the commercial a few years later, I wish I could find a high res version of the commercial because I remember it being awesome!
just got let go from my job, this song motivates me to try to find some low hanging wire or rope or some thing and swing through the fucking window like Tarzan, got here because of Listerine and remembered the jingle from when I was a kid, didn't know it was a whole song, this is awesome.
Jake Roe dude don’t get too dramatic...just go use some Listerine Total Care mouthwash, priced at only $7.99, it is the unique mechanism that will solve all your woes.
The Listerine commercial that featured this song was where I heard this song. I would later hear this song as part of the soundtrack of the third TMNT film (the movie's soundtrack was its only saving grace). I love the key this version's in :)
That listerine commercial has lived rent-free in my head since childhood. While the version in the commercial is clearly different having a more intense guitar riff, this is as close as we’ll get to that version. So thank you for making this!
You can take the original tune, copy it in Audacity, and apply Change Speed to it. This affects tempo and pitch at the same time. Set it to -4% and then you have this version. I completely guessed on what was equivalent to a key with respect to pitch, but it was a first-time bulls-eye. I'm going to see what other songs come off in this way. Similarly, on the whole, the concept of vaporwave covers for songs involves a -16% on the above instead. There are exceptions that don't fit to -16 but also have other filters and effects used to get the desired sound. It's worth experimenting on your favorite tunes to see how they sound.
The tech has really improved and it may be possible to isolate some of those guitar tracks, double them up in a DAW and distort them enough so they sound like a proper second take and replicate the heavier sound of the commercial version. You've got me curious to try it now. Of course they're also power chords and easy enough to replicate by playing them and processing them with Guitar Rig to get that nice 80s tone.

Same here.
I always knew the Listerine version sounded slightly different, not as fast timed as the original. Glad I found this after all these years.

Not just 1 key lower; it was an actual cover of the original song.
@@user-roninwolf1981A shame it’s probably gone lost in time but this is the closest we’ll ever get to that version of that song.

I actually love this version of the song as much as the original.
This is better than the original. One of the few times when a remix is better than the original.

The only difference here is the pitch is lowered. The version in the commercial is different.
I mean it’s pretty much the closest thing we’ll get. I’m not complaining
This commercial used to help during anxious filled college days
Put this on 1.25x and it sounds more to the original!

It sounds a bit harder, heavier. Like it could be considered a Hard Rock version of the original.
All that's different is the pitch is scaled down.

Cool
Is there a radio edit of this version?
Down quality version this version extended mix
Sounds very weird, like it’s out of tune or playing on a record player on a warped record
Sounds better than the original.
