I'm trying to decide whether I should get the L or XL. The XL seems like it might be too large and I'm afraid the L won't be big enough, but it's very versatile and can easily be modified by adding pouches to the outside increasing its Litre Capacity. I agree and completely understand needing an extra pocket in the front of the bag. Excellent review. Very Informative. It will help me decide between L/XL
Agree with Hobonoa, the minimalistic design is preferable to me as well. The main beauty of this bag is that it is EXTREMELY modifiable. If you want more pockets just buy some more pockets. The customizable factor to this bag is where it really shines. Want a daypack? Just take out the frame and belt and roll/compress it down. Want an overnighter? The standalone bag with frame and Belt is more than enough. On a multiday/week expedition? Attach 3 5L pouches and quickly get up to 75 L. Want quick access pockets? Just buy some pouches to attach pockets on the Belt. The XL size is overkill and unnecessary. If you are a pro backpacker/hiker/outdoorsman/soldier than you know that anything over 80L is excessive. UNLESS you are a paratrooper. Most of us are not paratroopers. (At least I'm not anymore, I used to be.)
Saavotta also should make the lid like the Alice lid, opening in the front rather than underneath. I feel like the filbe could be very comparable with this except it has pockets and access lol
I bought this pack. I totally agree about the bottom zippered pocket. I’ve tried using it and I find it is totally awkward and unusable. The top pocket is also awkward. I really wanted to like this bag but so far am finding that these negatives are making me wish I had decided on another pack.
Keep a tarp, groundsheet, bin bag or similar near the top within easy reach; with that you can lay the pack flat even on wet/dirty ground. Also I find packing the larger items- that would go into the bottom- first (against your back) then anything smaller also helps when unpacking the lower part. Hanging the pack off a snapped off (or sawed off) but strong lower branch is also an option but sadly not on all types of trees. I barely use the hood pocket, at this price it really really should have come with something to attach to the belt (considering how few pockets it has), I stash small things into the various pouches I attached to the belt.
Hi ,thanks for sharing. Could you help? -i can see that the interior stiched seams arent reinforced in the same way as the ones on the lid interior. ( Same way as the lid, belt and shoulder straps are finished at their perimeter) On their website you can see the fabric on that seams, that hold the MOLLE/PAL webbing to the backpack fabric too, its gettting loose fibers, like the fabric falling apart...( No liner, uncovered inside sewing) Should we be concerned about this issue? i think, over time it will only getting worst. Only with normal use. -I can see that in some photos, the vertical stiching is at the outside , where it holds the MOLLE/ PAL webbing, but in others the stiching is at the inside, making it less fragile.Rocks and friction will break the exterior stiching.Where should we expect to find them if we buy one? Is the interior stiching an upgrade of new modells? -It looks like the snow will stick to the padding fabric. ( Belt, shoulder straps, and back padding). Is that correct? Thats not the best solution for winter. Is the padding made of closed cell foam not to absorve water? I hope i explained myself in a good way. Thanks in advance.
Hey, about one year since you’ve written this comment. I’m contemplating buying this pack. We’re you able to adapt / deal with the bottom compartment? If yes how did you do it? Thanks
183cm, fits fine, lot of adjustability in straps and belt. Fair few tall individuals in scandinavia, also made for military so I'm very sure it would fit you. if unsure email the company savotta.
So hey, I really liked your review. Honest and humble. If you look at Savotta's M and XL versions, they strike as better designed. Overall, I think the L is due for an upgrade. I hear what @hobonoa is saying about wanting a clean pack with not too many pockets. For me I really like the extra molle on the pack but: - After 40+ years of backpacking and hiking I think I can say that I'll always want those two water bottle pouches - I always want a belt pockets to keep your energy bars and wallet (yes I know its a multifunction belt). I imagine Savotta could design a pocket and build it in in such a way that it would be useful to hunters as well. - About the bottom pocket portion of the pack, I've found that companies find it really hard to build a pack that works well as a top-loader and a panel-loader simultaneously. Mystery Ranch has an interesting approach here but a lot of companies really mess this up. Even the U panels often lead to unnecessary leakage. The one reason I can think of that they designed the pack with the horizontal zip is that it allows for a larger capacity entry, for example a bear container. Does the pack's upper or lower portion accommodate a bear canister? - I do think the "S" Straps are excellent.

Overall very good stiching. yes padding getting dirty is a bit of an issue. designed for use in snowy country so doubt it's too big an issue. Apoligies your questions are too precise and would reccommend you email the company.
@@jaysbooshcraft3889 Ah, nice! He definitely took some shortcuts as far as frame rate and and stuff, but for £25 that's not bad. Hope to see some more vids from you, man. That Savotta review was pretty well thought out. It's not just "this is the greatest pack ever," but also some slight, realistic cons. Anyway, wish you the best, Jay!
Woah... Can you haul over 36kg comfortably is the question!? I don't think any bag can, I had loaded to maybe just over 15kg (33lbs). Can't advise, check the website.
@@JWtube88 Hey take a look at the XL version - might be more up your alley. They also make another model (might be too small) that has an external rifle carrier.
