When in London, we go to the Malaysian restaurant in Camden Town (forgot it’s name) because it’s pretty authentic and close by.

Nyonya is a marriage between Chinese and local Malay cultures when the Chinese arrived. Some of the Chinese men who arrived in Malaysia in the very early days married the local women. I am one of their descendants.
yes that is the text book answer. Just a little additional information, Nyonya or Peranakan, they are actually Chinese merchants that married with the local people of the Malay Peninsular or Indonesian archipelago. Hi Nigel, the Peranakans weren't the product of Portuguese marrying the local Malay folks. I love Singaporean food! I’m Malaysian and we are usually very proud of our food. Grew up in Malaysia and then lived in Singapore for a few years. At first, I didn’t like their local delicacies like chicken rice and nasi lemak because they are different from those in Malaysia. I would complain and said it’s not “authentic” or “not the same as back at home”. Few years down the road, I grew to love Singaporean dishes and actually miss their food when I’m not there. Shu you too. I didn’t realise your dad used to work in 奇華 bakery. That’s where my dad used to work !! Also check out the BCS and keep up the good work for BBC everywhere in the world ✊. ruclips.net/video/QSJuPtTKeBs/видео.html
Watching this makes me never want to leave Malaysia though I've had thoughts of migrating like many Malaysians do. Despite showing some of the "best" foods in this video, I have to say they still got a long way more to go before they can achieve that traditional and local Malaysian style of cooking. The price point is a whole other issue! Great video and remarks and jokes!
Love the video! I'd love to see more of Nigel in your videos 😄
Nigel actually looks handsome!
Honestly I watched this video because of nigel and I really loved it and I loved shu she's so cute and loveable
Aw Mia!! Such a sweet thing to say, thank you! 🥰💛💛
@@dejashu I love you
Love you right back! 🥰
You two look so cute together..very good chemistry
Great eating episode!!! Absolutely LOVE Nigel! Very funny and well informed. Great show, Shu!!! Love your Channel❤🌹
Thanks Amy! So pleased you enjoyed it 🥰🥰♥️
I found you after I found Nigel after I found uncle Roger 🤣
I love eating so much.
I have lived in the UK for 4 years.
Unfortunately, I just found your video when I will depart from the UK soon😭 so I will have no time to try your recommended food.
Anyway, I subscribed your channel 👍
You’re both so funny and have a natural chemistry. It’s be so cool to hang with you both!
Aw thank you, Amy!! 🥰🥰💛
No! This girl is very pretentious. But I can certified she is 100% singaporean. Or she can be social nerd or awkward! A lot of singaporean don't like to go out from house. That's why they play too much of phones. It is not healthy. From big data singapore is the place where people spends most of the time on phone. this should be the issues the government to be attend. Lee Hsien Long if you reading this. Please do something. Help our citizens.
@@dejashu to be honest did I dated once? Long time ago I was at temasek poly and you told me you were study nurse. We dates for couple of time. And what the hell you don't know cili padi. Ok maybe only our side knew.
Nigel wrongs about nyonya! And you didn't correct him. It will be very cenematics.
UK: healthy food
VS
Malaysia: tasty food
They have palpable chemistry
What happen to uncle roger’s chinese accent? 😂
Koh S Chao did HK accent, not Malaysian
@@jturner1774I think its a malaysian accent too but people didnt use it as much nowadays
@@jturner1774 it’s Malaysian accent, but many of Malaysian Chinese also speak Cantonese as well which probably why it sounds like HK accent
@@kyronology1533 pretty sure Peter Chao is HK Chinese though?
Afiq Hishe in fact it’s a typical cantonese accent lol
Anything with Uncle Roger in it deserves a Like from me. The last time I was at the Market, Mei Mei's not there. Just a Turkish Delight massive stall in the middle of the open market.
This Chinese lady is more white than Auntie Hersha.
Coconut is the name your looking for ?
@@winnie-the-poohahaha4428 more like "Banana"
Banana
But she kicked uncle Rogers ass in the Chilli challenge
Her Cantonese is pretty good. So I think she is less white than Auntie Hersha.
I just wanna say.......
Come to Malaysia for our local food
MALAYSIA BOLEHHH!!!
Don't come yet until covid19 is down/over there
@@samshah7628 oo fk.... God dammit, I accidentally forgot about that.....
Hell. Peanut... Allergy. Reminds me of my nephew. We he felt something wrong. His air passage is getting thighter. We asekd if there's a peanut in any of our food then I looked at the sause. The waiter after we call one went to kitcehn and confirmed that it had peanut. The last time I ate an different resto, they put in the pack of sause that it has peanut ingredient. Back to the story So my nephew vomit all his intakes and his dada and I when to a drug store and bought a liquid antihistamine.
Why so weak? So weak - uncle roger
The more you avoid it the more it will harm you.
so weak, so weak
This was recommended to me after watching all the Uncle Roger videos! 🤣
Baba Nyonya is mix race originate from the marriage between the Malay and the Chinese who came to the Malay Archipelago. Baba is the male and Nyonya is the female. Feel free to correct or add any information regarding Baba and Nyonya race.
Thank you for the information! Will definitely read up more about this in more detail! ☺️
Yes you are right
You are right and they speak malay or 'cakap melayu' as everyday languange which is quite unique because they are mix race...but not anymore nowadays, english maybe their mother tongue especially young generations
Yes, love to see Nigel!
A hilarious day filming together! 🤗
Where are the ikan bilis (anchovies) ? Nasi Lemak is incomplete without the anchovies.
OMG I loved everything about this video. Please have more Uncle Roger on your channel. He is hilarious and I am dying of laughter.
First time I've watched one of your videos. You're lovely. I'd go on a date with you!
I love Asian food and like to make it myself at home xx
idk why but it's satisfying to hear you guys saying cantonese since im from hkg
please do more series !!!
Aw, thank you! I have an entire Cantonese playlist on my channel if you're interested (though I'm still practicing haha) 😊
Nonya/peranakan are from interracial marriages of immigrant Chinese and native Malays. Their food evolved from a blend of the two cultures.
Most of Peranakan food comes from Malay and Southeast Asian culinary tradition. Even Ayam Buah Keluak is from Rawon. Laksa is from Laksam.
@@Khatulistiwan Laksam is in Bangaldesh. Laksa and Laksam may sound alike but there's no evidence that there's any relation.
Every state in Malaysia and Singapore has its own version of laksa. Asam laksa with its distinct sour taste from tamarind is known to originate in Penang.
Peranakan & Nyonya has been cleared up in previous comments. just want to add : descendants from mix of Portuguese & Malay/indian people is called Serani
Nigel : I'm a legend
Me : no lies detected
Ahahhaa
Auntie Shu ! Please do another collab foodie session with Nigel! Nigel knows his food, lah. More please. More Please!

so Aunty Helen is REAL??
wait, Shu is auntie Helen?
@Koh S definitely. In his older vids you can see a photo with a women in the background, must be his ex-wife.
I googled it and didn't find anything saying he's married before. :/
Her real ex wife name is Eva. He mentioned her in the ricetomeetyou podcast.
@@beau9549 i think 78! 76 above deh,you can check the comments first. A lot of comments about auntie hellen in that episode of podcast.
Uncle Roger sprinkled some words of wisdom through out the show... you both made a great show. Come again and again. 😜😜😜
More with nigel and food places. Do come to malaysia to experience the real malaysian food
Would love to visit Malaysia! So high on my list! 🥰
as a malaysian i dont particularly think that the economy is great, but it is improving and that im proud to be able to eat extreme dishes like asam laksa which can damn spicy.Other than the food being amazing here im also proud that i can mix 3 language into a sentence
Is it weird to have a crush on Nigel and laugh @Uncle Roger at the same time? Lol 😳🙈
I have a crush on uncle roger tho LOL
Nigel, you are so likable & good looking too! Best wishes!

Hope that wasn't Uncle Roger's last day of work...
There’s always a price to pay for greatness. That’s fucking deep man
Uncle Roger struggling with chillies. What this? This no uncle roger
This is Xiao Roger
Nasi Lemak & Hainan Chicken Rice !!! I have tried Milo (it is like Ovaltine - chocolate milk) = that was on the shelf, across from Uncle Roger. Sambal (like the Sriracha aka spicy ("rooster/chicken") chili sauce, by Huy Fong) fish paste (shrimp and/or anchovies ?) is always good. I have been to KL, on the path towards Bali and Borneo (Sabah Island). In Bangkok, I did go to a (big @$$) Tesco store to buy snacks.
Nigel: "What's a binbag of peppers"
