      Shinzero02 well, actually if you use something like a trainer to go through walls and go to the RPD (with Jill) you can see Nemesis with the thing that covers his face, usually when there’s a T pose character in certain areas(a similar thing happend with Ada and the dogs in Re2R) it means that there’s gonna be a cinematic, so, I guess they changed everything at a late stage or something, because there’s even a concept art with nemesis holding a Minigun and missing the upper half of his trenchcoat

      @shinzero0271 4 года назад +3

      It does feel like there's a cut section of the city. I don't think it was lazy so much as it seems like they were forced to either remove an area or didn't have the time to finish an area. Either that or the Power Plant area and it's drain deimos enemies were incompatible (RE Engine problems?) with zombies and Nemesis being active. That whole section is specifically separated from every other enemy type and Nemesis only reappeared once it dealt with.
      I have my suspicions about there being RE Engine limitations though. All the non-zombie type enemies are extremely limited and isolated to specific areas that prevent them from even being able to be lured into any other area. In both RE2 and RE3 there aren't that many lickers, dogs, Hunters or G-mutations. I think RE3 has 2 dogs total and 1-2 lickers. RE2 had maybe 2-3x that. Even Devil May Cry 5 didn't really flood the screen with varied enemy types like previous games in that franchise did.

    • @Sifer2
      @Sifer2 4 года назад +10

      @@shinzero0271 I don't think anything was really cut since people have gone out of bounds all over the game, and you don't see anything that looked remotely playable. What really happened was the game was outsourced, and developed at the same time as RE2. They never intended Nemesis to be a roaming monster but after seeing how popular Mr. X was in the RE2 remake they had barely enough time to add a bit of roaming to him at the start of the game. They had to give him a dumb "web swing" teleport though because the map design was so linear.

    • @shinzero0271
      @shinzero0271 4 года назад +5

      @@Sifer2 While it was outsourced, it was outsourced to a team Capcom has worked with before and helped found and included former Capcom staff. Capcom uses subsidiaries and secondary teams all the time. Plus not all cut areas leave blatant map fragments for noclip explorers to find. From what I've been told, there are some signs that there was additional RPD content, and some of the noclip exploration does show areas that just abruptly dead end like the connection was removed and the general path was blocked. I will say that I preferred the backtracking in RE3re to RE2re. It felt more natural for Jill to have to go somewhere and then take detours to get back, then have to repeat that with a different detour once her initial plans for escape were shot to hell. With Leon and Claire I kinda felt like the game was just stalling, forcing you to run various paths through the same area while searching for parts that were in some seriously crazy locations that made no sense in order to open doors. Add in having to abort some paths in order to avoid a 'roaming' Mr. X, who also had scripted appearances as well as random offscreen teleports, or having a bookcase fall over and block a door and it didn't feel natural so much as 'oh look another forced obstacle'. Hell, my first playthrough of RE2re took extra long because I was looking for a key that I couldn't obtain on that character at all and there was no actual indication of that. The game had already ingrained a desire for me to find keys just to speed up my travel through the station and I ended up wasting more time.
      I know some people call it lazy design but the sheer amount of minute detail, references to other Capcom games, and love for the franchise that we did get, really shows that at the very least, the developers were putting in some serious effort. Whether there were time and/or budget constraints that put a damper on things or if the game's director had a vision that the story should play out like a movie
      That is even how the original RE3 got made. It was one of several smaller projects being worked by side teams and was chosen as an epilogue to the Raccoon City saga on the PS1.
      I actually like the "web swing" teleport as that, along with Nemesis parasite zombies falling from the roofs (more often on harder difficulties), makes it seem like Nemesis primarily tracks Jill from rooftops in the early game. I'm surprised they didn't use that. Add in his rocket-catching, and Wesker-dodge capabilities that you really only see on secondary playthroughs and it really seems like first-stage Nemesis was intended to do more.
      Plus, I don't really see Nemesis intended as a roamer like Mr. X was. He has a clear-cut mission to eliminate STARS members while Mr. X was a more general 'kill all the witnesses and people who can tie this to Umbrella' monster.

    I replayed RE2 Remake on hardcore after beating RE3 Remake on Nightmare and Mr. X is sooo much easier to deal with compared to Nemesis. I agree that on a first playthrough, Mr. X enforces more suspense because you do not have a clear idea of where to go and you are backtracking unnecessarily or escaping into rooms where you had no idea lickers would spawn in, but second playthrough onwards you can easily avoid him and his segments feel very short when you know where to take all the key items. He really only pursues you in 2 events inside the police station and both take place a few key items away from escaping to the parking lot. Nemesis on the other hand is entirely reaction and skill based, regardless of your playthrough, because you are forced to engage him. Whether you run or fight, you have to be alert of his varied moveset and the presence of other enemies. If in your 3rd playthrough you managed to run from the toy store to the gate by only having to dodge a tendril pull, it might not be the same in your 4th playthrough if he decides to Sprint an throw a punch. In that sense I feel Nemesis offers more challenging replayability than Mr. X, especially in the harder difficulties which I feel most of the people criticizing haven't even played.

If you don't kill him, he pursues you relentlessly. The only difference is that the sections of the story wherein he comes after you are fewer and closer together in the remake. I'd say the main campaign works but could use an expanded area for stage 1 Nemesis to chase you when he's in his Spider-Man mode. Maybe include a side area that isn't important to the plot but offers a decent award for completing.
      A Nikolai DLC scenario showing what he was up to while offscreen could also be used to showcase some removed areas as it never really made sense for Jill to be in some of the areas she went to in the original. Having Nikolai be forced to deal with puzzles because he's breaking into the personal stashes of various Umbrella scientists will assassinating some of them and picking up resources for his big payday would work wonders.
      Costumes and such are a definite plus. I'd definitely like a more practical version of the Revelations outfit for this new Jill and to see what they'd come up with for an RE5 'Super' Jill in this design. Not to mention seeing a modern take on Regina from Dino Crisis as an alternate costume would be great.
      I'm not really sure if Mercenaries would actually work in this game engine. The holdout in the Hospital really seemed like a test of the RE4/5 style Mercenaries modes and it was pretty bad in terms of enemy spawning. As a whole, I don't the RE Engine is good for having a large number of active enemies on screen at once. Even the main game's large amount of zombies had most of them in dormant states until events 'activated' them.

    Having no experience with the original RE3, the handling of Nemesis didn't actually bother me. If anything, it just made me curious since I knew so many people were eager for this remake because of how Mr. X had been handled. However, I don't feel like such a character would have worked as well here without making major modifications to the mechanics.
    Which, sadly, kind of stands with my feelings on the game as a whole. RE2 wasn't really as big of an action game, which I think is why I enjoyed it as much. The mechanics seemed perfectly balanced with the sort of experience they were going for. RE3, on the other hand, was very much an action game, even though the mechanics were designed to encourage ammo conservation and alternate options. The first area of RE3 allows for some of that play style up until Nemesis shows up, and once that happened everything that made RE2 great begins to fall away. A lot of the boss fights here feel far more tedious, absorbing more bullets than I felt like they had in RE2, while new additions like Hunters were far too capable of one-hit kills despite eating bullets like they were breakfast cereal.
    In the end it was still a fun game, but it felt like a mod or expansion whose vision was forced onto mechanics that were designed to deliver a different kind of experience. As a result, I'm now feeling apprehensive about rumors of a Resident Evil 4 remake, particularly since that game remains as solid as it had on release.

      @@johnwinchesterp2963 I have to disagree. RE2 Remake's 'survival horror' primarily came from forcing you to loop the same area repeatedly to solve some of the most inane 'puzzles' while Mr. X wandered the area attracted to the sounds (and occasionally teleporting closer to you when you got too far from him) like some sort of super-licker. If you watch speed runs, he's really predictable.
      For RE3 Remake, Jill's journey runs like aa film to the point where it would've been the best Resident Evil movie made if it wasn't a game. The pacing in particular is fast, with slowdown only when switching to Carlos' sections. While people complain about what was removed, her journey actually makes sense now. The entire time, she's trying to get out of the city and her goal only changes once she finds out there is a cure and an incoming nuke will kill whoever is left alive. Her point of view doesn't have the time to waste on trying to figure out what Nikolai and the other mercenaries are up to until they directly impede her means of escape. Where the original game kinda goes into side tangents like following Nikolai's string of assassinations of Umbrella scientists, a failed attempt at extraction involving the clocktower, and a random giant worm boss in a graveyard where the true boss is the camera angle, Jill's journey really doesn't need that. It should definitely be included in something like a Nikolai scenario.
      Having a Nikolai scenario added in general could show all the missing areas, as late game we do see a message he wrote saying he was all over the city and in some of the removed areas. It even mentions him going to the University, which is the location of a scenario in Resident Evil: Outbreak that Nikolai appears in. That University is home to a rogue Umbrella scientist who built his own, unique, Tyrant based on the process that made the original rather than simply being a clone like Mr. X and the other T-103 series.

      @@shinzero0271 in re2 you feel tension but in the beginning when you know nothing mr x is anything but predictable when you try to find which rooms he can follow you. And you feel pressed in some situation when you don't know where you will find ammo etc. To do a speedrun you either need to see a youtube from someone who played it a few times or play it yourself to figure out the tricks to spare ammo and time. So all in all re2 remake did a good job at being survival horror.
      Re3 remake is more action based but it doesn't do a very good job at it since it doesn't feel like a complete action experience. It is going too fast and the story isn't very compelling. Plus I wasn't feeling much sympathy for jill like I did with leon and claire. And if I didn't know some things about the first game I would be a bit lost about the story. Now I haven't played the original game to know about the comparisons to puzzles et. But I have played re4 and I can see the action and story were better there.

    • @shinzero0271
      @shinzero0271 4 года назад +1

      @@johnwinchesterp2963 I think the difference is the original itself wasn't even intended to be a standalone game. The story was never 'good' and even with the content that was removed for the remake, it was still extremely short compared to 2. Again, 'puzzles' padded out the length and between Nemesis and static camera angles, the horror mostly came from what was offscreen and could be headed toward you, with only sound cues warning you. RE3 was meant to be a sidestory to 2 and only got turned into a full game after Capcom made the decision to finish the Raccoon City saga on PS1 rather than extending it to the next generation. They closed the Raccoon City saga with RE3 by nuking the city after establishing that all of the surviving heroes from the franchise escaped. Technically, Code Veronica (or an early version of Code Veronica) should've been RE3.
      The original RE3 was pretty much the same experience only with more of the classic RE style 'puzzles', more Umbrella mercenaries, a few more locations (I remember a park, some side streets, an expanded waste disposal facility that had signs of conflict between the US Military and several other Mr. X-type Tyrants that would later be expanded upon in other games featuring this time period in the franchise, a graveyard boss that was more frustrating than satisfying, some extra mercenary encounters , and more places where Nemesis just freely runs at you trying to punch you to death/shoot you with rockets. The game's path gets altered by some decisions made concerning how you deal with forced Nemesis encounters and there's a larger enemy variety (even though they're still limited to 1-2 rooms a piece per new type).
      I do agree that this game is more action oriented than 2, just like the original was. Jill's ability to dodge is a pretty big gamechanger. I think the biggest different in term of the narrative and gameplay is that Jill had already done the survival horror experience in RE1. She's seen the zombies, seen bioweapons like Hunters, Chimera and a Tyrant, and already knows what it takes to survive. She knew what to expect and the only real outlier at that point is Nemesis, which is shown to be a durable threat that is constantly becoming even more threatening. Even the giant worm boss that the remake of 3 excludes is something that pales in comparison to the giant snake, spiders, and man-eating plant from her experience in the mansion. Both the original and remake essentially bypass the actual horror aspect by making it so that Jill is already capable and past the "this can't be happening" stage that Claire and Leon faced early RE2. Jill's overall goal is just to get out the city.
      Leon and Claire go headlong into the horror from the start, both being outsiders to the city and not knowing what to expect before being separated and winding up in the RPD and later Umbrella labs.
      As for RE4... well with the raccoon saga over and zombies hitting a media lull, I don't blame them for going more towards action-horror. Keep in mind, Devil May Cry spawned from an early RE4 design, and then there was that prototype RE4 that leaked and involved possession or something in what looked to be another mansion before they ended up with the Los Plagas setting/storyline.
      RE5 just seemed like a natural evolution of the escalation in bioterrorism. I think they tried more for body-horror when it came to enemy design but the co-op gameplay really removed the horror aspect entirely.
      RE6 though... I can't really explain RE6. It just seemed like nostalgia, action scenes involving prior protagonists, a sad lack of Jill, and way too many QTEs. The only thing I could think of after playing RE6 was that they basically turned the main campaign into little more than the Mercenaries mini-game with boss fight set-pieces.

      @@shinzero0271 no I think it makes sense narratively to be more action based since jill faced zombies in re1 and is more experienced. Just like leon who had little training than in re2 and was kicking ass left and right in re4.
      But in re3 even some of stuff like dodging make sense it is not a good action game in some areas. Length is one of them that re2 managed to make it less apparent with the 2nd run and play as either or claire at the 1st run. But the story even if it had some great moments if felt kinda flat. There are a lot of opinions on the why but smt about all the combination of what they did just made the experience less enjoyable. The what could have been changed is analyzed to death by way too many people to get into. For me I think the main thing is you wanted to see leon and claire get out of the danger but not so much with jill. You like carlos but jill is less friendly to the audience. The new players of re like me don't really like her and a good chunk of the older players don't like her changes from the original game.

      I dunno, having Nemesis wait outside the toy shop for you to exit it is pretty terrifying. You can see him staring at you through the store window, just waiting to try to murder you. I think the original Mega Man display there is what he's truly wary of.
      Play on nightmare or inferno mode. When Nemesis is acting like Spider-Man in the city, he's extremely terrorizing. You can't even fully rely on the infinite rocket launcher because he can catch rockets and throw them aside or do a Wesker-style dodge to avoid the explosion entirely. I haven't actually tested if he does the same on normal but I think it's telling that they basically removed the one weakness every other Tyrant seems to have. Grenades are basically the only thing to give him serious pause at that point.
      Actually, Inferno mode in general puts the horror in this game's survival horror. Even the Nemesis-infected zombies become a viable threat there.

    • @shinzero0271
      @shinzero0271 4 года назад +2

      Well duh, she never visits the graveyard.
      Seriously though, you do realize Jill gets outright murdered by Nemesis if you fail the handful of QTEs or running away, right? She's got plot armor preventing Nemesis from instakilling her with no chance to fight back, like almost every game protagonist with a health bar. Don't drive the car off the edge? She gets a tentacle through the face. Don't run away, in the burning apartment hallway? Smashed by the chunk of of ceiling he's holding. Don't crawl away when his second form's tentacle has you? Pulled into flames. The game constantly has Jill in grave danger. She's just got protagonist power.
      Hell, even Nikolai can outright murder her and Carlos if you take too long to shoot him at the end. Not to mention her fall from the side of the building's window-washing elevator-thing should've probably crippled her to the point of not being able to avoid the thing falling on her right after. The end to the rocket launcher sequence should've actually killed Jill. She had a rocket explode right next to her, and should've had massive internal damage from the pressure wave alone. The drain deimos' implant, being thrown by Nemesis's tentacle from the top of the facility to the bottom, the direct injection of a good amount of T-virus... yeah Nemesis was constantly a threat to her.
      The biggest problem with the experience change between the original RE2 and 3 is that using the RE4 style camera view and control system and moving away from static camera angles changes everything. Being able to freely aim, freely dodge, and exploit enemy movements is something that basically kills most of what made RE2 and 3 feel threatening. RE2 remake made up for it by being nearly claustrophobic and including excellent sound design that upped your anticipation whenever Mr. X was stomping around. Even then, the scariest moments are caused by being forced to solve inane and out-of-place puzzles while playing keep away with a Tyrant in a trenchcoat. Once you get out of the RPD, it really stops becoming scary and the feeling of danger decreases drastically. RE3 has more open environments that I think really detract from that same atmosphere RE2's remake had.
      Though, play the game on inferno. Jill is in grave danger the entire time. Everything can murder her. Nemesis sneezing in her general direction has a chance of murdering her.

      Nemesis somehow always knows where Jill is. I kinda got the impression that all those Nemesis-infected zombies that randomly drop from the sky are being used as a sort of sentry system by Nemesis to track Jill from the rooftops. Whenever he spider-man leaps away, he's probably nabbing zombies to place Nemesis parasites on so they can just scan the cit for S.T.A.R.S members.

      RE7 never felt like a genuine RE game for me. It was too different in its form and story, and the characters I was familiar with were not there. Plus it is (as of now) a one-time first-person experience in the RE saga. But its a good game on its own merit.
      I felt similarly about RE4 when it came out. That one was too different than the previous ones. Plus it started that awful string of RE action games (5 and 6). GTA has done it better (the transition to 3d I mean).
      I may be narrow-minded, but I think that Raccoon City (or its outskirts) is the only place where this story should play out. Tank controls, third or first person - doesn't matter now, but the place itself is the key. Too bad they blew it away 20 years ago and still don't retcon it to existence.

      @Curly Que yes, that is a good point. With RE7, Capcom has shown its acknowledgment of the fact that this franchise was in need of returning to its survival horror roots. But now, with r3make, they are about to jump the shark once again. The original trilogy, the Raccoon City incident, has been remade. RE3 is, IMO, one step away from being an action-oriented game like RE5 and RE6. So, the circle starts anew.
      PS the original Nemesis is better, appearance-wise. They should've made his like the original one in r3make.

      Alibek Zhussip I honestly don’t mind how different RE7 was, and as you said 5 nor 6 were well recieved by fans and the story has gotten all over the place. Imo getting away and starting something fresh that had little to do with Umbrella was a good move for the franchise in general so it could have more room to breath, same with 4 being years after the original games. RE7 still is paced like RE, and just like the older RE games were inspired by movies like George A. Romero, the Terminator, etc, RE7 takes the grind house approach. Plus, Resident Evil 1 was initially gonna be 1st person so I don’t mind it. Yeah, Raccoon City is great, but we technically have 2,3, their remakes, and the Outbreak games set in Raccoon. I don’t know how much more you could do with that setting. To me, just because a part of the series has differences from the predecessors doesn’t mean it’s not the same game series, Metal Gear is a prime example.

It's $30 now, and if it had LAUNCHED at that price, I honestly think its average review scores would've increased from 8/10 to 9/10. It's high quality Resident Evil Lite in a similar vein to the excellent Revelations games, and I love it.

      It's an extremely dissapointing game because of how much potential it has and you can feel the cut content but if you get it for cheap it's amazing.

    Jack from RE7 was literally nemesis but was executed way better, had funny one liners, threatening, stalked you numerous times, had great boss battles. What happened to re3 remake capcom!!!!

    Spot on analysis. I'd just add that, besides the obvious fact that the shorter runtime of re3 cucked nemesis, I kinda see what the devs did: he's Mr X combined with birkin. If the game were the same length as the original or re7 or 5 or 4, we could get perfection. Nemesis transformed veeeeeery slowly on the original one and on the remake... He goes from 0 to 100 in a single cutscene. Is disappointing. I clearly remember that as a kid I took MONTHS to finish the original re3. When I first saw shirtless nemesis with a set of upgraded tentacles, I really felt that he, as the antagonist, Jill, as the protagonist, and me as the player, were skirmishing the hell out of each other and the tone was just right to set this wear and tear. We didn't get that in the remake and for me that's the biggest sin. In all honesty I finished the game in seven and something hours mark so it was good for my money. But the pacing really let me down. It's too fast when it shouldn't (namely every moment with Jill) and just about right when it had no need to be (hospital Carlos anyone?). They dropped the ball. Re2 was better. Re7 was even dopier if that word even exists. I'm so hyped for village.

    Imagine fighting any normal group of enemies, low on health and then nemesis comes in and shoots you with a rocket launcher, the charm of him constantly ruining simple areas with constant heavy damage would kill it

    💙💚💛🧡 Initially my FF7 Remake review was 9/10, and Re3 was 8/10
    But now I've had time for them to sink in... FF7 Remake is 10/10, and Re3 has been downgraded to *6/10*
    Because I saw how good Re2 Remake was (with Tyrant), very disappointed 💙💚💛🧡

    I’ve heard a lot “the dodge mechanic makes nemesis too easy.” you could just ignore it if it made your experience that much worse.

    • @grfrjiglstan
      @grfrjiglstan 4 года назад +5

      If you have the tools to avoid his attacks, are you really going to take unnecessary damage by hamstringing yourself like that? You can make a too-easy game harder for yourself with self-imposed challenges, but the game is still too easy.

    • @hoominbeeing
      @hoominbeeing 4 года назад +5

      Logan Elkins But that argument could be taken to further extents. If what if they made all the guns do 1000000 damage and kill nemesis in one hit?
      "Haha, just don't use the guns bro"
      What if they make the knife kill nemesis in one hit and do 10000000 damage?
      "Haha, just don't attack anything bro"
      What if Jill's footsteps did 1000000 damage and killed nemesis in one hit?
      "Haha, just don't move bro"
      What if Jill existing did 10000000 damage and killed nemesis in one hit?
      "Haha just don't play the game bro"
      Saying "just don't use it bro" is a poor argument for OP mechanics in games; it can be extended infinitely.
      (i don't think dodging is OP, I'm just making a point about your argument)

      Hoomin Beeing and MattheJ1 you make good points. I guess I just don’t agree with some of the complaints I’ve heard. I thought he was great in the early game but I hated that they basically ditched him half way through. Dodging ruining Nemesis just doesn’t seem like a valid argument to me.

    • @hoominbeeing
      @hoominbeeing 4 года назад

      Logan Elkins I agree with you. Most of nemesis's hits remain active for multiple frames, so the invincibility frames from the dodge won't do much. Also, the RE franchise NEVER had fast characters; Jill in RE3 is no exception. Dodging makes up for Jill's overall poor mobility.

    If this was a proper remake it would of played like a longer slightly more action oriented RE2 remake. That's what the RE3 OG was. This game is at it's core almost nothing like the original. It's the universal studios theme park version of RE3.

  • @ace4705
    @ace4705 4 года назад +1

    He's not a bigger threat than X.... He's too scripted and you can just perfect dodge every attack of his. (btw the dodge mechanic is not inconsistent at all its done times better than in the original, you just have to learn the timing.)

    • @112523
      @112523 4 года назад

      you can bait out every attack mr x does and just walk past him. and yes you can dodge nemesis but i bet you didnt dodge all his attacks. i sure didnt and he did smack me down a few times. altho he isnt hard at all and doesnt show up alot.
      mr x is just far more consistent and actually around. hearing him walk down the hallway next to you does something with you. nemesis however shows up. you run for a bit and hes gone again. but the worst thing about nemesis is the single fact that 1 grenade downs him for long enough that you dont even have to worry about him anymore. and as far as i know you can do this with every encounter you have with him on the map.
      for example. the first time after the intro. he crashes through a wall.
      just drop your grenade right away. and after that you can just take your time doing what the game expects you to do without having to worry about him

    • @ace4705
      @ace4705 4 года назад

      @@112523 Well by the time I was on my fourth run I could perfect dodge every Nemesis attack and fyi he takes more than 1 grenade if you play on Nightmare or Inferno, he can even take 2 RPG shots. They nailed it right with X, even after you've learned the game from the inside out he can still be scary because there's that kind of randomness to him because you never know when he will show up outside of the very few scripted moments. Nemesis is really a downgrade compared to him, They should have given him more time by dropping him on downtown the moment you pick up the fire hose, having him in the sewers and a longer part of the game where he has his RPG without the laser and making him less reliant on scripted events (also buff his health so he takes A LOT more bullets and grenades, at least this is my idea on a fix for Nemesis although I bet it won't make the problems go away).
