- The central open volume topped by a skylight is architect Marc Whipple’s modern take on the traditional courtyard. He took the courtyard, and sunk it so that all the below-grade rooms open off of it, transforming what normally would be a dark basement into a lower floor with light and views - the anti-basement. The large skylight pulls the dramatic focus upwards as well, so this vertical volume contains both dynamics as you cross the glass bridge.
Marc explains the design theory, “Alignment of the space so that you are looking at a lot all at once is the essence of the iconic modernist open plan. But we have added the vertical dimension to the horizontal, which offers a visual richness of detail and color wherever you are. You are not “going upstairs” and leaving the house behind; the experience is spread throughout. And within that, smaller spaces were created, like the split-level down library and office, which keep the house available visually.”
Our clients were sophisticated in their understanding of design, having built several houses previously, and their devotion to the process made this an especially joyful collaboration. This project was ultra-custom - a new category. When our clients are into it as much as we are, with such a deep visceral collaboration and communication, you feel it when you walk through the finished house. There was a lot of conversation articulating a design aspiration and then trying to solve it. The excellent collaboration included their interior designers Robert Wright and Jason York, of McCormick and Wright, whose insights and professionalism were greatly appreciated.
Apart from liking the property, I keep watching this because of its amazing production values. Music, casting, slo mo photography, costumes, acting and direction, all perfect!

Increíble casa, es espectacular. Esas piedras afuera, esas maderas, el color blanco, las mesadas de la cocina, y los techos son increíbles. La pileta y el yacuzi de afuera, y la parte de arriba para tomar una copa de vino mirando el atardecer, el fuego a gas de varias partes de la casa, es buenísimo. Ese puente de vidrio también, y el techo de vidrio arriba del puente también. Las habitaciones me recuerdan a hoteles que fuí. Felicito a la increíble empresa inmobiliaria Whipple Russell Architects por todas las casas increíbles y lujosas que hacen. Esta casa es la mejor que hicieron desde mi punto de vista, felicitaciones a la empresa.

Fantastic house with full of natural light and brightness
Honestly, I would've like to have seen more of the actual house instead of the model and all of the staging.
A progressive walk through would've been good. All those random shots from unannounced places in the house doesn't give a good feel for the living spaces.
Not everyone see's real estate the same kelvin!... Remember you'll always vhave some real people who deals with business before pleasure!.. So am going with what was said about swing the house through and through!....

One of the best houses ever----Architectural masterpiece with one drawback for me---Upon entering the house I see one large glass rectangular boxy hole that takes up so much space---With the view and glass ahead----the glass front entry w/door and the open glass stairwell area it chops up the flow----Wouldn't keep me from buying it though and also one does not need a woman parading through the house---The house is beautiful enough to sell on it's own

Beverly has beautiful views but you can achieve big house, fancy cars somewhere else too, Beverly has toxic people and u cant escape them ever, think about Idaho, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois or North Carolina, LA is getting full of drugs, and what not

Listen...it's been a stressful process moving in. You couple that with the fact that her puppy just died and their au pair is asking for a living wage and you can understand why she may have forgotten in which of her 40 cabinets the coffee cup is.

Me likey. I can understand how it strikes some people as a shopping mall or an office building, but it seems clean and livable rather cold and alienating, and it's certainly not gaudy in the way a lot of Beverly Hills new builds are (What kind of marble do we want? All of them!)

my gosh it's beautiful, but i would be worried everyday, wondering if something is going to break and how much will it cost to fix it! auuuugh. not to mention the electricity bill a/c and lighting. but hats off to whoever buys it. it's beautiful! oh, and make sure to have a large stock of light bulbs on hand. seems to need a lot!!!

I love how for all these millions you get no backyard, no basketball or tennis courts or plot of land to really enjoy/but "you're there", the proverbial "there" you have arrived so I guess those things no longer matter in the moment, YOUR MOMENT. it really is a lifestyle choice. clearly the money could be better spent on another property in a less ritzy zipcode, you could have an estate manor with 7 car garage, horses and stables, indoor/outdoor Olympic pool, tennis court, bowling alley, larger theater, a ferris wheel for summer nights, b-ball full court, full gym center, larger game room with classic pinball/video games, table tennis, card & board games table, pool table, air hockey, and a backyard baseball batting range, built to spec on 5 acres for half the price of this beautiful home.
