Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

You guys!! Every single beautiful comment is making me cry! 😭I've been a wreck for weeks over all these changes with the goats and to know you all understand and are supportive is just the best! Winston will be a great friend for Zorro, and Willow & Winnie will be so loved here and will get plenty of stumps 😂Fun fact I didn't mention in the video...Wally (Willow's other buckling we sold as a wether) has perfect legs, too 👍🏻so all is well with him. Let's look forward to the new doelings coming to the farm in April & May (yes, there are two of them:) and we'll start fresh with some new milking lines for the farm!

Your doing the right thing, but I have a question as a not anything breeder.. What if Winnie doesn't show the extension in a year or two? Would you reconsider or can it reshow in her line later? How far would you, theoretical, have to go to say it is truly bred out?
Bottom line is you must do what is best for your homestead regardless of how others feel and I know you won't lose viewers over your choices. You always have the best intentions for your babies.

You can't make everyone "happy, happy, happy" all of the time. Hard decisions and bad news are a part of life. In the end, this is your farm and the animals are your responsibility and therefore, it's your decision and people should be respectful of that. Personally, I can't imagine the farm without Luna or Willow but, I understand that my emotions are mine to own. As always, much love from Florida 🌞

I love how even though you guys are breeders you care about your goats and didn’t just sell willow Winnie and winston because you couldn’t breed them any more. As one of your long time subscribers, here’s what I know. Every goat that crosses your path will live it’s best life. Whether a breeder, milker or a pet - if you keep them, sell them or gift them - all your goats live their best lives.

Completely understand the reasoning on keeping Willow, Winnie, and Winston as pets! Its your farm, your animals, it’s all your doing! I have no problem with it, I’m just glad you’ve noticed before breeding them!

Oh my goodness -- watching the pigs play in the water is TOO CUTE! I'm so sorry that things didn't work out with that line of goats. That is SO hard! I'm also really sad that you've been so criticized and judged by some viewers. Decisions like this are difficult and I appreciate how honest and vulnerable you have been about your learning experiences through the process! We've had goats for a little over 5 years and I'm still constantly learning and adjusting our practices. It's all a learning process. It's obvious that you really love your animals and care about what's best for them! :)

It is wonderful that you all care so much for your animals. I am so sad that you are now unable to breed Willow but am so relieved that you are keeping her, Winnie & Winston. I’m pretty upset about willow’s line being cut off. But the worst part is willow has been one of or possibly the best milker. But I agree with your decision, they shouldn’t have to be kept with this problem

It is. I think of Willow and no more little Willows. Life sucks sometimes. I agree with Weed 'em & Reap about stopping the line. A hard decision but a right one. You don't want to breed physical problems to the next generation in livestock. Even if they're very much loved pets.

It must be so incredibly herd to let go of an animal that you’ve raise since the beginning, and then, you find out that one of you most beautiful lines has a genetic problem and can be bred on.😭🥺 And for that reason you have all my support! ❤️

A breeders job is a hard one. You’re setting a great example to aspiring Nigerian breeders (myself included). When we’re taking the responsibility of breeding animals we need to make sure we’re producing the best animals possible. It’s a disservice to do otherwise.

We all were very excited to see Willow have babies, but if it’s unsafe, then it shouldn’t be done. I don’t want to see willow or any of her babies go through what Penny went through. I agree with your effort to prevent breeding genetics that potentially cause the animals health issues later on in life. It's not fair to take that chance - and the animals bear the brunt of those health problems. Thank you for considering future generations, and the overall health of the animals in your charge. It's sad to see stella go but she will go to a great home with her baby and allow you to focus more on the other goats and at least Luna got to raise her until she had her own baby and now Luna can continue being a grandmother to all the other babies on the farm and be the only queen👑. I'm sad that Penny's line won't continue but when you take care of animals especially animals that provide for your family and others you need the best and this is not only because you need the best looking herd but also because you need healthy goats and continuing pennys line would just he selfish. On a happier note Kevin playing with Salem is so cute and funny😂.
