In America we have so much; hardware store bags of sand, kitty litter clay, kitchen blenders, propane burners, fire clay to make a foundry, vermiculite, etc etc. These guys? Sand and molasses and a charcoal fire and they get a way better finish than I ever have.
If you understand the materials around you, you can do so much. Americans are taught to have it handed to in them to such a high degree that they've lost the ability to do for themselves and with prices always increasing we lose our freedom through depending on consumerism
We Americans have been duped that you don't have enough, you need more to be perfect when many times it's in your face. I've coated surfaces with spray on Molassis as a parting agent between rocks mud forms and silicone calking. Sprayed let dry then coated with calking and cloth strips..worked like a charm❤

He should make a steel plate to shield his feet when pouring. A simple L-shape under his toes between him and the mould would help him stay safe. I respect him deeply! Beautiful craft!
Working all day in that squatting position must come from years of practice, and pouring molten aluminum in bare feet makes me nervous. i laughed out loud after watching several videos, and the next one in line he had a big bandage tied around one foot.

I dont see why it wouldn't. The sand itself is extremely temperature resistant and the sugar molasses burns when you pour aluminum in anyways. The only way I could possibly see brass causing issues is if the brass would heat it enough to melt the sand but even then it would still probably give good casts and just be harder to knock the burnt sand off at the end
Not a bad idea. Only one ingredient to add to the clean washed sand. No need to worry about the water in green sand evaporating or trying to get the sand to clay mixture right.
