    This is my all-time favorite Conan story! Conan vs. a 3,000 year-old wizard in an all-out battle to decide the fate of the world? What could possibly top that?!

      Yeah, in some ways -- but I'm not sure about the way he says "Cimmerian." In fact, I dislike how he says it very much, with his emphasis on the third syllable. Even the modern Merriam-Webster says it a different way than he does, and I think in regard to these stories this word is very important.

      @neildear-wn9eo Is that a new rule now? No criticism allowed? But if that's true and only praise is allowed, how will people know when they've messed up or that people aren't liking their stuff? If I'm at McDonald's and they've messed up my order am I allowed to bring the mistake to light? Or do I have to own a restaurant first? Does making my own hamburgers sometimes qualify me to have a voice? I have many questions about your idea of who must shut up.

      The only thing that really disrupts the idea is the shape of the continents in the Hyborian age. Africa and Eurasia are effectively slammed into one another on Howard’s maps, and while continental drift is a thing, it’s something that happens over millions of years, not ten thousand years

    It honestly makes me depressed that we've gotten to a point in society that we couldn't adapt Robert E Howards work into an HBO show. There isnt a soul left in hollywood with enough power to make things happen, and enough reverence for original work, required to properly adapt a Conan show. Even just 10 years ago there would have been literally dozens of directers and writers jumping at the bit with eagerness to faithfully adapt Robert E howards work. Now all the studios _cast_ writers instead of hiring them based on their abilities, and studios are deathly afraid of producing anything that could even remotely offend the average moron on twitter. Not to mention, the current generation of "activist/writers" in hollywood can't adapt anything without -deconstructing- vandalizing it by putting their own heavily modernized "socially acceptable" spin on it and making it "more palatable for modern audiences", therby trying to insert their own poorly disguised political opinions into the story. I mean hell Rings of Power was quite possibly the worst garbage ever to be put on television, and that was MOTHR FLIPPEN J.R. TOLKIEN!!! If they can't even make Tolkien without gutting it to oblivion until its utterly unrecognizable trash, then i dont even want to think about what some liberal arts student jack off would do to Robert E. Howards work.
    But just imagine a rated R, faithfully adapted, competently directed Conan the Barbarian anthology series on HBO where every episode or two was a self contained Robert E Howard conan tale. It would completely reinvigorate fandom and get an entire generation obsessed with pulp fiction stories again!

      @@ZexyObserver ..because Hollywood has monopolized the movie making industry for the better part of a century and the only other viable competitors who might have an interest in making a Conan show (like the british market, BBC, etc) are just as indoctrinated into the zealous ideology of hypersensitivity and censorship as Hollywood is.
      The only markets that have the budget and the capacity to make a proper conan series are either just as pathetically out of touch as hollywood, or they simply wouldn't have any interest in it. The Indian, Japanese and South Korean movie/show industries are amazingly top notch, and have put out some of the best movies and shows made over the last decade, but none of them would have any interest in making a Conan series unfortunately.

    • @addictiontransfer3731
      @addictiontransfer3731 Год назад

      @@ZexyObserver Not in hollywood. I appreciate your optimism, but platitudes failed to make dozens of great movies that had far more drive, courage, and desire behind them than any Conan series. Guillermo Del Toro's Mountain's of Madness, Nicholas Cage Superman, Heart of Darkness, Stanely Kubrick's Napolean, and James Dean's Biopic were all projects that not only had courage and desire, but more importantly had huge amounts of MONEY behind them, and dozens of hollywood bigwigs fighting to make it. They were almost all shot down due to either bad luck, bad timing, or the usual suspect; studios not wanting to bite the bullet and take a chance on something they thought wouldn't sell. With how overly cautious and out of touch modern studios are compared to when those movies were shot down, its nearly impossible any studio with the capability to make Conan would ever want to in the current cultural climate of demonizing historic ideals and perspectives, and mass censorship.

    Shevatas, a Zamoran thief, awakens an ancient wizard named Thugra Khotan from his 3,000 year slumber. Thugra remembers his dream of world domination. He assumes the name Natohk (The "Veiled One"), assembles an army, and begins his strategy of conquering the Hyborian nations. But the tiny kingdom of Khoraja stands in his way. Khoraja is ruled by the beautiful Yasmela, sister of the king, who is now a prisoner in neighboring Ophir. Fearing Natohk's invasion, Yasmela seeks advice from the god of her ancestors, Mitra. Yasmela is told to travel into the streets and offer her kingdom's defenses to the first man she meets.
    The first man she encounters is Conan the Cimmerian. Conan already has a position in Yasmela's army. Now, he's given full command over Khoraja's royal military, much to the confusion of his more cultured comrades. The arrogant officers now under Conan's command ridicule their new commander. But they fall victim to Natohk's magic. Meanwhile, Natohk has made it clear conquering the world isn't the only goal on his agenda; he also desires Queen Yasmela for himself.
    Conan and his soldiers defeat Natohk's army, and the wizard devises a final attempt to capture Yasmela. Conan confronts him near the ruins of a Stygian temple.

      I've read some convincing arguments for both the hard C and the soft C. Howard first used the word in a poem he wrote in southern Texas, so I'm leaning towards a Spanish pronunciation (which would be the soft C), but both interpretations have their validity. Since we don't have any recordings of Howard himself using the name, I choose to accept all as valid.
