I read all the Conan books years ago and enjoyed them all. You can't beat a bit of "say that again and I'll spill your guts on the floor" literature. Because I read them so long ago, these audio books have a fresh appeal. You have my gratitude Frederik.
The work by Marvel Comics in turning these stories into graphic novels in the 70's and 80's is/was remarkable. The best artist tended to be John Buscema and, very much like Jackson's LotR films, they gave you visual ideas that enhanced the story rather than spoil it and as such are worthy compliments to Howards story-telling. I can relish both with equal appreciation. Arnie's film Conan was definitely inspired by Buscema's art work and not the Frank Frazetta version.
The New Conan movie with Jason Momoa was not competely bad - the CGI-Effects indeed reminded of pictures of fantasy artists and their colours - also the action Choreographie was good. Only the script was not so good. But maybe Arnold Schwarzenegger will do a new and better third Conan movie - there are still many good but never realizied scripts for Conan movies.
@@holgerjahndel3623 no he won't for the kull movie was supposed to a third Conan movie. The reason it change was because Arnold didn't want to play that role again.
@@jacobitewiseman3696 Swharzenegger walked away because they screwed him over in the filming of Red Sonja. It’s too bad bad Arnold is so far beyond his prime it would have been a story the rise of Conan the King. I can’t think of anyone else could convincingly pull off the role today. Not that it matters much because Marvel has backed away from the character, giving up license.….too toxically masculine I suppose.
I enjoyed listening to the Conan audio stories while I'm working. It's disappointing that there's few audio adapts of Howard's fragments completed by other writers. So it's was welcome find to hear this one (by familiar voices from the other Conan audio stories). I wish there were more out there.
Like, despite my stronger taste for Conan vs. demon monsters, the more peculiar the better. Human enemies are basically the same dull guys with swords etc. Such fights have already been described in much detail by Walter Scott and Alexander Dumas.
Why can't you pronounce Conan? Co-naan is just nonsense. Think Conan O'Brian. Then next time I might listen but the thought of the narrator's endless mispronunciation caused me to give up in seconds. I'll look for a channel that can correctly pronounce the hero's name.
I am making a roleplaying game based on the Conan books and world. The Pictish wilderness is supposed to represent the Native Americans to some extent... but in my game, I make the Pictish wilderness to represent all the beautiful natural aspects of the Native Americans as wise warriors and wise natural people in harmony with nature and animals. Of course, they are not savages, but actually wiser than civilized people who have made a world that is not sustainable. But the Conan world is perfect to create roleplaying games. Yet it needs adjustments to give respect to the cultures represented.
@@howy41 The Pictish wilderness in the map of Conan would be UK, but the picts themselves are based on old sterotypes of the native americans. Feathers, drums, totems, stealth in hunting, huts, animal spirits... Some say there are old Scottish stereotypes as well in the picts.

My dad introduced me to Conan in the 70s through the comics wonderful thankyu dad wonderful memories 😊
Robert E. Howard is the best. Thank you
Loved Conan novels in early 80s while on deployment thx for uploading
John Polk is the best reader of Conan. He gives him intelligence and style.
He's so good!
Thankfully he speaks American English- the heavily-accented brogue of some readers is not missed!
He's the Kevin Pierce of Conan stories.
Special thanks for the most artistic reading.
This guy who's name in unknown to me is the best reader of Conan. Thanks mate.

Try this one , he's the best by far in my opinion
John Polk. He's so good! There was another channel with a bunch of his work, including a number of Conan books. Unfortunately it got wiped out.
Tells the tale of a Pictish border Ranger during Conan's rebellion. Nice to see a deviation from the main storyline. 💕
I still have that book and about ten others from the 80s - Howard kicked ass!
Perfect Blockbuster Film Potential! Hyborian Adventures in the World of Conan! No Arnold Replacement Syndrome Issues…
Got turned on to Conan in early 70s. Read all the stories and seen the movie. Don't mess with the Barbarian.
By Mitrah! Simply Fantastic 👏🤓

One of my faves
I remember reading this story back in 1982 when I got my hands on my brother's Conan books_____including this one. Good stories.
The fantastic stories may have kept you, but admit it, it was the scantily clad women on the covers that got you there. 😮

Never heard this story before. Real decent
Loved the cover art work FRANZZETS ART WORK WAS AWSOME
great work man
I had these paper back books was hooked
The narrator has a voice better suited to a radio baseball broadcast.
Anyone know who the narrator is? I've heard a couple Conan stories that he's narrated and I want to buy them, he does an awesome job!
John Polk.
Great one
I love fantasy stories only wish I was there slaying picts and demons Robert e Howard and jrr tolkien were to good for this world

Native Americans? You clearly haven’t seen The map of the Hyborian world
@@22grena yes... even Robert Howard himself said the Picts were partly based on the Native Americans.
