This time I bring a really interesting test I've wanted to do from a while: test how the different versions of PCIe affect the performance of a GPU, as there seems to be a though that lower versions can lower the performance of the GPU and thus thinking that you need the latest PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 to get all the performance from your GPU, but as seen in the video, its not exactly like that.

I didn't expect the difference to be so small, especially between 1.1 and 2.0.

The variation between gen 3 and gen 4 is like my annual pay increment this year: it exists, it is real, but it is also functionally irrelevant and no human being would notice the difference.

Yup, and probably the one from pcie 3.0 to 2.0 would not be noticed in most scenarios as even if it is a little bit bigger it is still just a couple of frames

    good experiment 👍
I thought maybe 1% low is negatively affected, but I'm glad to see this does not happen

It would be very nice, if the same test were done with nvidia gpu.Good work.Κeep going

Looks like you really are ok with just pcie 3.0

What annoys me is that the graphics always go to 99%, so I don't know that I am losing performance due to the slower PCI-E

Yeah, because usage percentage is really inacurate for knowing if the GPU is being used completely or not. What that metric means is the amount of time the GPU is doing something, but not the intensity of that something. So if it is at 99% it means that is rendering 99% of the time, but not that it is using 99% of it's total capacity, same with the CPU. Looking at the power usage shows that better as the more GPU you use the more power it will use.

The world of computing will always be an interesting place. And I'm glad for that
