I heard a Klezmer band playing on the steps of the Chicago Art Institute, inside steps near all the wonderful large paintings. I was hooked. Coming back to life in retirement, I found my old friend (the clarinet) from high school band and I went back to it, with a klezmer component. My Klezmer Zoom teacher is Robin Zelinsky, great in her own right and daughter of a clarinet giant in the Catskills.
So, put some madness into folkish jewish music from Eastern Europe...and that's klezmer! Ahahahahah!! I think probably modern klezmer is more related to jazz than the classic, but not as you can hear in John Zorn's work...just a flavour :-)
